Chapter 395 Dina’s Back

“I’ll make a phone call right now to see if it hasn’t been taken care of yet.”
The Director of the Medical Department picked up the phone and immediately called the staff responsible for this matter. Previously, the hospital had stated that they could provide the deceased baby for them to see whenever they wanted. But now the situation was that they couldn’t produce it. The explanation given was that the hospital would dispose of some medical “waste” at specified times each month. These would be sent to the local crematorium for incineration.
“I see.” the Director said helplessly after hanging up the phone. “You arrived too late, it has already been taken care of.”
However, they had clearly said they could provide it, so they should have made arrangements to keep it. Why didn’t they make those arrangements? Or is it that they couldn’t produce it?
“This is your responsibility.”
“Yes, yes, we apologize for the miscommunication and the incident that occurred.”
“Do you think I can accept your apology?” Freya’s emotions clearly hadn’t calmed down. It was probably impossible for anyone to stay calm in her situation. She had carried the baby for so long, and now she hadn’t even glimpsed her own child’s life or death. How could she accept it?
Elijah held Freya tightly, who was overwhelmed with excitement. At this moment, even words of comfort seemed pale. There was no words that could soothe the feeling of losing her own flesh and blood.
Just then, Elijah’s phone rang. He answered, it was Rod Lofic.
“I have some information regarding the investigation you asked for. Are you available now? I can come over.”
“Come over.” Elijah looked at the Director of the Medical Department with a sharp gaze. “You must give me an explanation. I won’t accept a simple apology for the lack of communication. If you can’t make the decision, have your hospital director come over!”
After saying that, he left with Freya in his arms. Half an hour later, Rod Lofic appeared in the hospital room. Seeing that Freya was awake but not in good spirits, he asked Elijah, “Should we go outside to talk?”
“No need.”
At this moment, seeing hope might be the only thing that could lift Freya’s spirits.
Elijah looked at Rod Lofic. “Tell us.”
“This is what I found. The surgeon who operated on your wife, on that day, his account received a large sum of money. I investigated and found that this account was closed immediately after the money was transferred. I personally went to the bank to investigate as well. Take a look, it’s this record.”
Rod Lofic handed over a bank transfer record.
“I think this is a bit too coincidental, don’t you think? On the day of your wife’s surgery, the surgeon received a sum of money? And the person who sent the money deliberately closed the account after the transfer, clearly trying to destroy evidence. Clearly, something fishy is going on.”
“So, is it possible that my baby is still alive?” Freya’s eyes lit up with a glimmer of hope as she heard Rod’s analysis.
“It’s possible.” Rod replied.
Freya looked at Elijah, “Who could it be?”
Elijah stared at the information Rod Lofic had given him, which showed only one transfer. It indicated that it was done specifically for this transfer. Was this premeditated?
Elijah furrowed his brow, sensing something. “Rod, check if this doctor has left the country.”
“I’ll do that right away.”
Rod also understood Elijah’s intention. If something fishy was going on, this person was likely to flee. Therefore, the top priority was to find this doctor and get to the bottom of the truth by starting with him.
“Will he run away?” Freya started to panic. They had no leads at all, and they didn’t even know who was behind all this. This doctor was an important clue, and if the doctor was missing, they would lose their lead.
At this moment, Elijah remained calm. He held Freya’s hand. “Perhaps, this is good news for us.”
Freya blinked, her voice hoarse as she asked, “What do you mean?”
“If this doctor really runs away, it proves that he indeed had some dealings with someone. Maybe, our baby is still out there. And that, for us, is good news.”
Freya thought about it and realized he might be right. But soon, she fell into panic again. “Who could it be? Your enemies? My enemies?”
She didn’t remember offending anyone.
“Probably not,” Elijah reassured her. “Rod has checked, it wasn’t done by the people who captured you.”
As for his enemies, well, there were definitely some, and quite a few at that. In the business world, it was inevitable to step on some toes. In the pursuit of personal gain, one unknowingly encroached upon others’ territory. And during the time Freya was away, Elijah had been relentlessly expanding his business and doing things that harmed others for his own benefit. If they were to pursue this direction, it would undoubtedly take a significant amount of time to investigate. It would probably take a while to get any results. For them, hope was the best news right now.

Rod Lofic quickly brought news. The doctor, Cather, who operated on Freya, had run away.
“I went to the hospital to inquire, and she was on leave. But during those two days, she disappeared. I think she must have been prepared in advance.” Rod said.
“Then go find her!” Freya urged Elijah.
Elijah held her hand. He spoke to Rod Lofic, “I might have to go back for a while, and then I’ll come back.”
Rod understood that Elijah had something to arrange. “I’ll wait for you.”
He needed Elijah’s assistance too. So, he would do his best to help Elijah with his matters. As soon as the door closed, Freya questioned Elijah, “Instead of looking for that doctor, where are you going? I won’t go anywhere until we find the doctor and get some answers!”
Elijah calmly looked at her. Facing her agitation, he understood and explained softly, “It’s been two days since the person ran away. In two days, they could have gone to many places, especially if they were prepared. We can’t expect to find them immediately. Of course, I will hire the best international private detective to help us find this doctor, Freya. I know you’re upset, and I feel the same way.”
Freya hesitated.
Yes, how could they easily find someone who had planned their escape?
She was just too anxious.
“I…”
Elijah gently caressed her thin face. “I have made arrangements. We’ll go back today. There are too many unknowns here, and I can’t leave you alone. Plus, Kai is still in the country, and he needs his parents by his side.”
“But…”
“Trust me. Give me some time, and I will give you an explanation.” Elijah knew her concerns and continued to soothe her gently.
In the end, Freya nodded, her voice hoarse, “Okay.”
With everything arranged, Sivin also accompanied them back. Sivin felt relieved that Freya was able to come back, but he also apologized for the wrong decisions he had made.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t expect it to turn out like this…”
“It’s already in the past.” Freya didn’t have the energy to pursue this matter further.
Sivin immediately fell silent since Freya’s physical condition didn’t look good. During the long flight, Freya leaned against Elijah’s shoulder, her eyes closed. She appeared to be sleeping, but she wasn’t. Elijah’s hand slid up and down her shoulder, gently caressing.
“Kai must miss you a lot.” Said Elijah. He deliberately shifted Freya’s attention.
And it worked. Freya indeed thought of Kai.

The plane landed, Dina came to pick them up with a group of people. Since Evan became a vegetable, he couldn’t work. So, Dina had been handling domestic affairs.
Freya was wrapped in a thin blanket as Elijah carried her out. Dina’s gaze flickered for a moment upon seeing them, and then she lowered her eyes. “The car is ready.”
Her voice seemed slightly familiar. Freya turned her head and saw it was Dina, the secretary.
Wasn’t she transferred to the overseas company?
Why did she come back?
