Orion approached Evan and said, “Can you do me a favor?”
But Evan refused, saying, “I’m afraid I don’t have the time.” He looked at Orion seriously. “It’s not that I don’t want to help you, but Freya is in trouble right now…”
“But Luna, we don’t even know if she’s alive or dead. We need to find her as soon as possible…” Orion was getting desperate.
Evan silently watched him for a few seconds. “You’re only realizing the severity of the situation now? Is it too late?”
Orion couldn’t deny his own carelessness.
“If Freya hasn’t returned and investigated Luna’s case, you might have assumed she’s hiding somewhere and let it go. You’re already too late to be worried.” Evan said bluntly.
Orion couldn’t argue. “I understand.” Perhaps at this point, he could only rely on himself.
Evan reminded him, “I think Haley is the breakthrough in this matter.”
Orion grumbled, “Didn’t you say you wouldn’t help me?”
Evan coldly glared at him. “You don’t appreciate a good person’s heart.” After saying that, Evan was about to leave. But a car stopped in front of them, and Haley stepped out, apparently looking for Orion.
Haley was always gentle and considerate in front of Orion’s friends, trying to appear understanding and kind.
“Hello, Evan,” she smiled warmly and politely.
Evan wasn’t easily fooled, having dealt with all sorts of people in the business world. In his eyes, Haley’s tricks were nothing. He remained calm and friendly, saying, “You’re here to see Orion, right? Did you guys have a fight? He was venting to me. If he bullies you, you better let me know, I’ll scold him on your behalf.”
Haley laughed and replied, “Thank you, Evan. Orion is really good to me, he would never bully me.” As she spoke, she looked at Orion, as if saying, “See, even your friend is protective of me.”
“That’s good to hear. I have some things to take care of, so you guys can talk.” After saying that, Evan left. He had many things to attend to; there was no time for him to chat here. He glanced back at Orion, still seeming angry, completely ignoring him. Evan sighed. He couldn’t really just leave Orion alone. Orion might be naive when it came to business matters, having been a doctor all his life, but when it came to emotions, he was a bit clueless as well. But they were friends. No matter how foolish he was, Evan couldn’t just watch him ruin himself! Evan sent Orion a text message as he got in the car, saying, “Use your emotions to influence her.” He just made the word “deceive” sound nicer and hoped Orion would understand.
Orion’s phone buzzed, and he took it out to check. Seeing the name displayed on the screen, he looked towards Evan. But by that time, Evan had already started the car and driven away.
“Orion, what are you looking at?” Haley asked, glancing at the departing car and then back at Orion.
Orion’s thoughts were brought back by Haley’s voice. He looked at her, seemingly understanding Evan’s meaning. Even though he still felt a bit angry at this moment, he softened his tone towards Haley. “I’m not in a good mood today. Did I scare you?”
Haley remained silent. Now it was she who didn’t understand. She had come to explain to Orion but Orion softened first.
“… No, I understand your mood,” Haley said, looking down and hiding her expression. She really couldn’t figure out what Orion meant. In the time she had spent with Orion, she knew that he was actually a straightforward person. Whatever was on his mind, he would show it on his face, and he would say whatever he wanted to say. He had a rather straightforward personality.
“Luna is missing, and that’s why I was overthinking. Now that I think about it, I must have overreacted. She must be hiding because she feels guilty towards you and me. And yet, I doubted you, which was really uncalled for. You were the one who lost the child…” Orion explained.
Haley took the opportunity to lean weakly against his chest. “Orion, as long as you understand, that’s enough.”
Orion lowered his eyes slightly, looking into her eyes without any warmth, but he said, “Of course, I understand you and trust you. Let’s go home.”
Although he was reluctant to resort to this method, Elijah didn’t have time to take care of him, and Evan was also busy. He could only rely on himself to find Luna. Whether she was alive or dead, there had to be a conclusion. Orion had never been this gentle with her before, and Haley was both pleasantly surprised and anxious. She was afraid that the current good was just her imagination. So she pinched her arm hard. It hurt. She could feel the pain, which meant that she wasn’t dreaming. Orion was being good to her.
With her eyes wide open, she said, “Orion, thank you for trusting me. I promise you, I really don’t know anything about Luna’s situation, and it’s not me who planned this…”
“Okay, let’s not talk about it anymore. Those were just impulsive angry words from me, so don’t take them to heart,” Orion said, letting her get into his car. “Leave your car, and the driver will take it back.”
Haley nodded vigorously. “Okay.”
She cautiously stole glances at Orion. His appearance always fascinated her. She liked Orion a lot. Orion felt her gaze on him, and he almost impulsively asked her about Luna. But reason pulled him back. He knew it wasn’t the right time. If he asked, it would only make Haley wary. In a situation where no one could help him, he could only endure and wait.
Haley’s heart was pounding with excitement. She tried to reach her hand towards Orion. Orion wasn’t willing but he could only say, “I’m driving.”
He didn’t directly push her away. Haley was overjoyed. Besides that one time when Mrs Russo manipulated them into having a relationship, Orion hadn’t touched her since. Even though they were technically husband and wife now, he had never made any physical contact. But now Orion didn’t push her away.
Did that mean he was accepting her? Haley thought to herself that getting rid of Luna was truly a wise decision. If Luna was still here, he would never have accepted me so quickly.
“Orion, thank you for believing in me,” she said, leaning against Orion’s shoulder.
Orion continued to drive, without any extra emotions.
…
After Evan left, he went home and made arrangements to ensure Kai and Elowen’s safety. He also told Elowen that Elijah and Freya had gone abroad for business reasons. Elowen had gotten used to Elijah’s busy schedule, so she didn’t question it. But she was a little puzzled about Freya.
Freya had just returned, and she should be eager to spend time with Kai. Why did she also go abroad?
Evan explained, “It’s Mr Silverton’s request for her to go with him.”
Elowen had a knowing expression. As a married couple, it was only natural for them to stay together. She said to Evan, “You can assure them that I’ll take good care of Kai.”
With Elowen’s words, Evan felt relieved. It was also a good way to explain to Elijah. Later, he returned to the company. Xander was at the headquarters, so he needed to brief the secretary on some matters. But the secretary wasn’t at her desk. He inquired and found out that someone said she was in the conference room. Evan found it strange. There was no meeting now, so why was she in the conference room?
Evan walked to the conference room door, pushed open the heavy door, and then saw Dina.
