Elijah’s tone was mocking, “Come at you? What do you have left worth my attention?”
Sivin was suddenly speechless. His lifelong reputation was all destroyed by Elijah. On the verge of retirement, he was burdened by consequences of a fatal mistake, all thanks to Elijah.
Sivin stubbornly held on. “Even if you target me and my family, I still can’t tell you anything, because I truly don’t know.”
“You want to do this the hard way?”
Elijah motioned for a chair to be brought in and sat down, legs crossed lazily, an arrogant and dominant posture. “Evan, bring his wife and child here.”
Sivin felt a sense of panic. He didn’t care about his own fate, but he didn’t want his wife and child to be involved. “If I knew, I would tell you. But I really don’t know. How can I answer you?”
“The person who assisted you in the surgery has been captured. Freya is still alive. You used a burned body to replace her.” Elijah’s eyes were sharp. “You know better than anyone where she is. You’re pretending with me.”
Fear crept into Sivin’s heart, but he maintained a façade of composure. “They’re lying. I truly don’t know.”
Elijah’s impatience was evident as he leaned back. “Being gentle with someone like you will only allow you to take advantage. Evan, go ahead, and if something goes wrong, I’ll take responsibility.”
“No, don’t harm my family, I…”
Sivin had been busy with his career when he was younger, and didn’t spend much time with his wife and child. Now, in his retirement, he faced a ruined reputation. It was his wife who had supported him through those difficult days. He couldn’t let his wife suffer for him anymore. Nor could he let his child face any danger or obstacles because of him. He knew Elijah’s methods because he had experienced them himself.
“I… I’ll talk, but you have to agree to one condition…”
“You’re not in a position to negotiate with me.” Elijah interrupted him directly.
Sivin clenched his fists, staring intensely at Elijah, and suddenly burst into laughter. “Do you know why Freya left you?” He had planned to make Elijah support Freya’s work in exchange for revealing her whereabouts. However, Elijah was too ruthless, leaving no room for negotiation. If that was the case, he wouldn’t make it easy for Elijah either.
Elijah thought about her resolute rejection by the riverside and said, “She thought I didn’t love her…”
“No, you’re wrong. It’s she who doesn’t love you.” Sivin chuckled. “In the operating room, she grabbed hold of me, begging me to help her escape from you.”
Cracks started to appear in Elijah’s expression bit by bit. Seeing Elijah’s change in demeanor, Sivin continued, “She said she was miserable being with you.”
Sivin didn’t know what trouble his words might bring to Freya. But he knew it would make Elijah uncomfortable. This arrogant man deserved a little blow. Otherwise, he would be too proud and conceited. At this moment, there was a hint of revenge in his heart.
Revenge for Elijah’s pressure on the hospital director, blaming him for the death of a patient who couldn’t have been saved due to the severity of their injuries, and making it seem like it was his surgical mistake. He was forced to retire early and faced the consequences. Besides, his reputation crumbled overnight. A lifetime of achievement was destroyed in an instant. Sivin Peters did harbor resentment towards Elijah.
Sivin felt that even this wasn’t enough to make Elijah suffer like he did. He added, “Not only does she not love you, but she has also fallen in love with someone else and has a child.”
Elijah’s pupils contracted gradually, turning pitch black, hiding an endless darkness. His seemingly composed face became extremely unsettled, like a lion ready to explode in anger at any moment!
He suppressed his voice, “You’re asking for trouble!”
