Evan furrowed his brow, “What are you laughing at? Are you crazy?”
Ronan stared at his left eye, “When did you become a panda? And an one-eyed one?”
Evan used his hand to cover the bruise around his eye and glared at Ronan, “I won’t argue with you because you helped me before, but if you keep mocking me, don’t blame me for not warning you. I have a temper too.”
“I helped you?” Ronan couldn’t quite understand.
What did he do to help Evan? He didn’t even know himself.
“Are you remembering it wrong…”
“Don’t even think about it. I’ve let go of any favor you owe me. You made fun of me, and I didn’t retaliate. We’re even now. Now get lost.” After saying that, Evan walked towards Elijah’s room.
Ronan couldn’t believe that he actually helped Evan out of kindness. He glanced at the time, “Oh, it’s already seven o’clock.” He still had to rush to Freya’s place and didn’t have time to waste here with Evan. This time, he bought another kind of breakfast since Freya didn’t seem to enjoy the local food last time. He figured she probably didn’t like the dietary habits here.
Ronan hurriedly arrived at the location, but Freya was already about to leave.
“Have you eaten?” he asked.
Freya looked at him, as well as the things he was carrying, and replied, “I’ve already eaten.” In reality, she hadn’t eaten yet. She planned to have a small meal on the way to the hospital. She lied because she didn’t want Ronan to go through too much trouble for her.
Ronan felt a bit disappointed, “I met Evan this morning. I don’t know what trouble he got into, but someone gave him a black eye. I chatted with him for a bit, and it wasted some time. Tomorrow, I’ll come earlier…”
“Ronan, I’ve already told you, you don’t have to do this.” Freya tried to refuse.
“Whether you accept it or not is up to you, and whether I pursue you or not is my own business.”
Freya couldn’t control him, “I have to go to work, I’ll be late.”
“I’ll drive you.” Ronan said as he was about to throw away the breakfast in his hand, but Freya stopped him, “Don’t throw it away.”
“You’ve already eaten, why should I keep it?” Ronan said.
“It’s shameful to waste food. Even though I’ve eaten, it’s still a pity to throw it away. Give it to me.”
Ronan happily handed it to her, “Eat in the car, I’ll drive you to the hospital.”
Freya nodded.
Sitting in the car, Freya opened the food box and found dumplings and millet porridge.
“Where did you get this from?” she asked, taking a dumpling and putting it in her mouth.
“The hotel I stay at provides Chinese-style breakfast.” Replied Ronan.
“Oh, I see.”
As Ronan drove, they chatted to pass the time. “Did you know that your brother’s company went bankrupt?”
“What?” Freya looked up. She didn’t know this news. “What happened?”
“I’m not entirely sure either. All I know is that after you died, your mother moved in with Elijah to take care of your son. As for Zane and how he managed to bankrupt the company, I really don’t know.”
The dumpling in Freya’s mouth suddenly lost its taste. Her eyes became a little teary. She only thought about herself and didn’t consider her mother or her brother.
“Didn’t Elijah help Zane?” Freya asked.
Zane was young, so it was expected that he wouldn’t handle things properly. It wouldn’t be surprising if something went wrong. At the very least, Zane was her family. Even if Elijah didn’t consider her, he should have extended a helping hand for Elowen and Kai’s sake, since Elowen was also helping Elijah take care of the child.
Ronan found another opportunity to speak ill of Elijah and said, “Since you’re not there, Elijah doesn’t even consider your family as his family. Besides, he’s so busy, he doesn’t have time to deal with such small matters like your brother.”
“If you want to know the reason, I can have someone investigate.” Ronan offered. He was being attentive.
Of course, Freya wanted to know. “Well, thank you in advance.”
“We don’t have to be so polite with each other.” Ronan said with a smile.
Mede Heart Research Center was close to where Freya lived, but the hospital and research center were separate. The hospital was a bit far from her place. Their shifts at the research center and the hospital were all scheduled.
Freya got off the car and walked into the hospital, but as soon as she entered, the director called her into the office.
“There’s someone who wants to see you.” The director told Freya.
