The one who walked over was the male judge. Freya had forgotten to collect her dress. He had come to deliver it and happened to witness Calista grabbing Freya by the hair. Just as he was about to step in to help, someone beat him to it.
“Here’s your dress,” the male judge handed over the clothes.
Freya was about to reach for it when Elijah extended his hand and took the dress first, showing no intention of expressing gratitude. Instead, he gave Freya a cold look. While Freya was dancing, he had noticed this man watching her with intense fascination. Wasn’t delivering the dress just an excuse to strike up a conversation?
Feeling that Elijah lacked courtesy, Freya smiled and said to the male judge, “Thank you, you’ve been a great help today.”
“No problem,” the male judge smiled modestly and asked, “This gentleman…”
“My husband,” Freya replied.
Today, Elijah was keeping a low profile, making the male judge believe he was an ordinary person. He couldn’t help but size him up. Other than being slightly taller and more handsome, what else was special about him?
Moreover, he lacked the gentleness the male judge possessed. Just by looking at Elijah’s icy gaze, it was clear he had a bad temper.
“Ms Stone…”
The male judge was about to say something when Elijah directly took Freya by the arm and stated, “We should go.”
And just like that, he interrupted the male judge.
Freya glanced at Elijah but didn’t say anything, obediently following him. Once in the car, she finally spoke, “Why do I sense that you’re upset? Is there animosity towards that male judge?”
Elijah started the car in silence.
Knowing Elijah’s temper, she didn’t press further as he wouldn’t answer anyway. His temper was just that bad. Changing the subject, she said, “I think Calista is behind the plan to harm Kai. Someone might be manipulating her from the shadows.”
This was her speculation because Calista had the motive.
“Calista couldn’t get Yolanda Steele out of prison, but Thorne Silverton, your grandfather and your uncle could. I believe there’s someone behind the scenes supporting her for this plan to succeed,” Freya analyzed the situation.
Elijah agreed with her thoughts. Now, nothing Elijah did surprised him.
“They want control of the company. From now on, take a bodyguard when you go out,” Elijah suggested.
Freya nodded, “And what about your situation…”
“I’m fine,” Elijah suddenly parked the car by the roadside.
Freya wondered, “Why did you stop? Do you have something to do?”
Elijah gazed at her intently.
“Do I have something on my face? Why are you looking at me like that?” Freya touched her face, wondering if there was something on it.
Suddenly, Elijah leaned in and kissed her lips. Freya’s eyes widened, and her curled eyelashes trembled. The kiss was deep, though short. In that moment, Freya’s heart almost leaped out of her chest.
“What’s gotten into you? Why so passionate all of a sudden?”
Elijah looked at her, and she, who usually had a simple and plain appearance, especially when dancing, was unexpectedly sexy and alluring.
“You have many talents?” Elijah asked.
“You’re attractive when you dance.” Elijah said in a deep voice.
She surprised him. A woman with many charms that captivate a man’s heart.
Freya smiled helplessly, “My dad forced me to learn.”
“Your dad loves you,” Elijah restarted the car.
Freya turned to him and said, “If I told you my dad had me learn all these things just to seduce you, would you still think he’s treating me well?”
Elijah hit the brakes.
“What did you say?” Elijah was shocked by this answer.
“Our family’s company was never really in crisis. My dad said so just as an excuse. From the beginning, he planned to marry me into the Silverton family. He made me learn dancing, piano, drawing, swimming… and much more. His goal was to make me a versatile girl and win your favor. He said being a doctor had no future, and it’s better to marry a good husband.” Freya now felt that Leo Stone wasn’t as bad as she thought. Perhaps he genuinely wanted the best for her in his own way.
Thinking of her father, Freya took a deep breath. Despite the unpleasantness before, thinking of him now still brought a twinge of pain and longing.
Elijah stared at her for a few seconds and suddenly laughed. His voice was low. Freya found it inexplicable, “Why are you laughing? Are you mocking me?”
“No,” Elijah said, “I’m laughing at myself. I fell for your dad’s tricks.”
Freya remained silent for a moment and then laughed too.
“Do you like the current me?” she asked.
Elijah adjusted his expression and replied, “Yes.”
He added, “I like you as a person.”
In other words, even if she didn’t possess these talents, he would still like her. But having these talents did add some charm.
Freya didn’t dwell on it. After all, she was herself.
The conversation shifted back to Calista, “She’s in trouble this time, but who knows what she’ll come up with next.”
“I’ll have Xander have people monitor the Silverton family’s every move.” Elijah said.
He spoke with a light and calm tone, as if those people were of little consequence.
Freya knew there wasn’t much she could do to help, “All I can do is try not to cause you trouble.”
She felt powerless in matters related to work.
“Oh, I need to go to the hospital.” Said Freya.
She hadn’t visited Zane at the hospital yet.
“I know you probably don’t want to see Zane, so you can go back first.”
Elijah didn’t say anything, but the car was already heading towards the hospital. Shortly after, they arrived at the hospital. Freya assumed Elijah didn’t want to see Zane, so she said, “I might need to stay a bit longer. You can go back first.”
Elijah indeed didn’t want to see Zane Stone and he said, “I’ll have the driver pick you up.”
“Okay,” Freya replied.
She stood on the steps, watching Elijah drive away before turning to enter the hospital. After that, Freya called Elowen and quickly found out the exact room.
She pushed open the door and saw Zane Stone lying on the hospital bed. His face was still swollen, and a bruise covered his right eye. Bandages wrapped around his arms and legs. She knew Elijah’s methods, and she had experienced being beaten by him.
Freya walked in and asked, “Feeling any better?”
Zanewas awake this time, seeing Freya and immediately asking, “Do you know?”
Freya knew he was referring to Elijah arranging someone to beat him up.
She told the truth, “I don’t know.”
Zane’s expression wasn’t great. Anyone who had been beaten like this wouldn’t feel good. Freya walked to the bedside, pulled a chair, and sat down, “How are your injuries? What did the doctor say?”
Zane didn’t answer but looked at her, asking, “If you knew, would you have stopped it?”
Freya fell silent.
She didn’t know.
Zane Stone didn’t blame her, considering she had her own child to worry about.
“My arm is broken, the rest are just external injuries. It’s clear Elijah just wanted to teach me a lesson and vent for your child. He didn’t want me dead,” Zane said.
“I’ll take care of the company, you just concentrate on getting better.”
Freya covered him with the blanket.
Zane nodded, “I see.”
His phone vibrated suddenly, but he didn’t check it immediately. Instead, he said to Freya, “I’m thirsty. Can you get me a glass of water?”
Freya stood up, “I’ll pour it for you.”
The thermos had no water, so she said, “I’ll get it for you.”
Zane nodded. By the time Freya left, he took out his phone and saw a message from an unknown sender, “Want to see your mother?”
Zane didn’t hesitate and replied, “Can I?”
“Although you failed the task I assigned you, considering you’re still somewhat obedient, I’ll show some mercy. You and your mother can meet once.” Came the reply.
“Thank you.” Zane Stone was somewhat excited.
“Tonight at twelve o’clock on TL West Road, behind the racecourse.” The mysterious sender instructed.
“OK.” Zane was a bit excited.
He had been worried about his mother. Before, when she was in prison, at least she was safe. Now, even that safety couldn’t be guaranteed.
Freya saw his excited expression when she came in and asked, “Is something good happening? Why are you so happy?”
