Freya frowned in confusion.
“I seem to have seen Zane Stone,” she said.
Elijah looked over, but he didn’t see anything.
“Are you sure you didn’t mistake someone else for him?” Elijah asked.
Freya shook her head, “No, I’m pretty sure it was him.”
Given Zane Stone’s recent suspicious behavior, Freya couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was not right.
“I’ve already asked Xander to investigate. If he’s up to something at the company, we should have results soon,” Elijah assured her, wrapping his arm around her shoulder. “Let’s not dwell on it for now. Let’s go.”
Freya nodded, but her unease continued to grow. Her bad feeling was soon proven right. The result of Xander’s investigation revealed that Zane Stone was the one who leaked information about the ship incident to the media.
Freya couldn’t believe it. “How could it be him?”
“He has no reason to do such a thing, right?” Elijah questioned.
Despite Zane Stone’s recent odd behavior, Xander found nothing unusual in his recent activities.
“That’s strange,” Freya furrowed her brows.
Freya’s phone suddenly rang. Her phone had been confiscated when they boarded the ship, and she had forgotten to retrieve it when they left in haste for the hospital with Kai. Xander had now returned it to her. She answered the call. It was Elowen, sounding anxious.
“Freya, come back. Something’s wrong with Kai.”
“What happened?” Freya asked.
“I don’t know. He started having seizures suddenly. I’ve called for an ambulance. Please hurry back,” Elowen pleaded.
Freya ended the call.
“Is there a problem?” Elijah asked.
Freya didn’t want to burden Elijah with her concerns about Zane Stone at the moment. “No, my mom was worried about us, so I promised to go back.”
She smiled at Elijah, “You continue with your work, I’ll leave first.”
“Should we continue investigating Zane Stone’s matter?” Xander inquired.
Freya thought briefly and said, “Let’s drop it.”
Xander couldn’t find any information, and if Zane Stone was indeed cautious, further investigation might not yield much. Freya hoped it was the latter case – that Zane Stone hadn’t done anything wrong.
After all, Zane Stone had been doing a good job recently. According to Elowen, Zane was also anxious during the days when she was captured, and even actively asked Ronan Vega for help. Yolanda was already in jail, and Freya didn’t want to have any conflicts with Zane Stone due to her suspicions.
“I’ll send the driver to take you,” Elijah said.
Freya agreed, “Okay.”
When she arrived home, Elowen had already left for the hospital, and 120 had arrived before her. She had to rush to the hospital again.
When Freya found the pediatric department, she didn’t see anyone there, and then she saw Elowen in the laboratory. She immediately walked over and said, “Mom…”
Elowen seemed to have found her main support and said, “Freya, you’re here.”
Freya took Kai over and saw the needle puncture on his finger, asking, “Did they take his blood?”
Elowen nodded, “They couldn’t find any reason, so they had to do some blood tests.”
In Freya’s arms, Kai was restless, his hands moving around nervously, sometimes whimpering as if he wanted to cry. But then he pursed his lips and the tears didn’t fall. Freya knew from his appearance that he was feeling unwell, that something was causing him discomfort.
With a heavy heart, Freya kissed his cheek and turned to Elowen, “When did you notice that he was feeling unwell?”
Elowen replied, “Before I called you.”
Freya nodded with understanding.
All they could do now was wait for the test results. Freya walked over to a quiet, less populated area with Kai in her arms, hoping that the environment would make him feel better. But Kai didn’t seem to feel any better, instead, he started to cry. He was so small, and he couldn’t speak yet, so he could only show his discomfort through tears. Freya could tell he was in discomfort.
“I’ll go and check on Kai. You stay here, wait for the test results.” Said Freya.
Elowen nodded and urged Freya, “I know, go ahead and go.”
Freya took Kai to the clinic, because he was too young to express where he was uncomfortable, so Freya had to check off all the possible reasons for his discomfort. As soon as the results came back here, the blood test results came out over there. Elowen hurried over to pick them up.
Freya took a look and her expression turned grim.
The doctor said, “Let me see.”
He took the test results.
After reading the test results and consulting with the doctor, he said, “We have found the cause. Kai’s body contains (2S, 6R), which is causing his discomfort and seizure.
Freya’s expression turned sour because she could understand the test results.
Elowen, however, didn’t understand and had no idea what the doctor was talking about. She asked, “Doctor, what exactly is the child suffering from?”
The doctor replied, “He’s not suffering from a disease. It’s just that his body contains 2S, 6R. These are chemical names usually found in drugs…
“Huh?” Elowen was surprised. “Kai hasn’t taken any medication. How could there be those things in his body?”
“That’s impossible. If he hasn’t taken any medication, then these chemicals are not normally found in daily life. It must be due to medication.”
Elowen wanted to argue, but Freya interrupted her. “Mom, has anyone been to our house recently?”
Elowen thought for a moment and answered, “No, except for you, Elijah, and Zane.”
She and Elijah would never harm their own child, and Elowen would never do it either. That left only Zane as a possible suspect.
Could it be him?
Freya had already stopped suspecting him, but thinking about all the recent events, many of which were related to him, made her suspicious.
“Freya…”
“Mom.” Freya interrupted her, “We can’t let Zane get close to Kai.”
“Why not?” Elowen quickly realized, “Is Kai’s situation related to him?”
Freya had no evidence yet, so she didn’t draw any conclusions. She was just suspicious.
“Mom, go back home and don’t tell Zane about Kai. Say that I took him to find Elijah.”
“Alright.” Elowen didn’t understand the doctor’s words, so she wasn’t sure about Kai’s condition. She asked, “Is Kai’s condition serious? Will the chemicals in his body affect him?”
Freya wanted to ease her worries and said, “It’s nothing serious.”
Elowen was relieved and said, “Okay, I’m relieved.”
After Elowen left, Freya showed her real expression. Luckily, it was still early to detect it now. Even so, she couldn’t tolerate it anymore. Kai was being targeted too many times.
“Let me help you with your hospitalization,” the doctor said.
Freya nodded.
The doctor knew Freya from before, so he had helped out a lot. They quickly settled into the hospital. After Freya discussed with the doctor, they decided to use medication to treat Kai. He was too young and at the hospital, if he experienced any discomfort or side effects, it would be easy to treat him promptly.
In the evening, Kai finally calmed down and fell asleep after eating.
As her phone suddenly rang, Freya answered it and heard the voice on the other end, her expression immediately became alert.
