GABRIEL
When I ensured Catriona’s safety indoors, I ventured out to mediate the conflict between the witches and Jayden’s enraged wolves. I never anticipated being struck by the witches’ wrathful magic, which was originally intended for Jayden. The impact of the magic left me clutching my chest tightly, as if it might burst open. I remained on the ground for several minutes, groaning in pain.
Although the temptation to shift and violently retaliate against everyone was strong, I knew I had to remain calm.
Feeling frustrated, I took a deep breath and confidently approached the wolves and witches, positioning myself between them with a dominant demeanour. “You all need to calm the fuck down,” I assertively stated. Surprisingly, everyone except for Jayden stopped. He angrily trotted over to me, snarling in my direction…
“You dare bring unknown witches to my house and give orders to my pack?” Who do you think you are?” He said, his voice guttural.
“Trust me, I wouldn’t mess with bringing witches to either pack. They’re here for someone,” I replied. Just as I finished, someone interrupted me. We both turned to look at the person. It was Jayden’s witch, still on the ground with shock written all over her face. Slowly, she got up on her wobbly legs and approached us. “I know them, Jayden. They’re my family. “Please let them in. I won’t let them hurt anyone.” Just as she finished her words Jayden shifted into his human form and snapped at her, “Are you blind? Haven’t you seen what they’ve done? It’s because you were charging at us. The old witch stated.
Let’s stop this nonsense Jayden. We need to have a serious discussion now. Once the witches are done with their business, they will leave. I said firmly.
Jayden looked at his witch and said, “I will allow them to come in. However, if anything goes wrong, it will all be your responsibility.
When everything seemed a bit steady I dragged him away from everyone and explained everything that happened where I and catriona were. How she looked like she was possessed and so on. Jayden didn’t seem surprised. I furrowed my brows and said, “I see you’re not surprised. Did you know about it?”
“Is that why you brought me here?” He asked.
For Christ’s sake, yes, I want to know everything that’s going on in her life that I’m not aware of. The way she looked at me earlier was absolutely terrifying. It felt so unfamiliar, as if I was encountering a completely different person, someone who is out of my league.
I don’t know the full extent of it, but from what I understand, she is not an ordinary woman. It seems that she is being closely monitored by spirits. From what I gathered, these spirits show no mercy to anyone who has harmed her, whether it be physically or emotionally.
I was silent for a minute, recalling the moment when I was attacked by the red-capped men in the woods. In the midst of my consciousness, an old man appeared and rescued me from the pain. I wonder if he could be one of them Jayden is talking about.
Gabriel! Jayden called my name, snapping me out of my daze. If you have nothing else to talk about, leave my pack. You’re not needed here,” he said.
I snorted, feeling anger swirling inside me at the thought of Catriona being in danger because of him. I can’t leave my mate with you. Who knows what you’ll do next?
“This is my pack. Whatever happens here isn’t your business,” he said through clenched jaws.
My mate lives in your house, so it’s my damn business, Jayden. Whether you like it or not. Furthermore, I no longer trust you. Do you think I am not aware that you have never seen her as your mate? This lack of connection is the reason your people disrespects her. They do not sense the bond between their alpha and his mate. If you don’t tell her the truth, I will… I was unable to finish my sentence as he abruptly punched me in the face, causing me to stumble backwards.
Now, this mother fucker just pressed the wrong button. It’s so upsetting that he only thinks of himself. I clawed out my nails, ready to shift and teach him a lesson he’ll never forget. But a tender voice, which was Catriona’s, echoed from behind.
“Is it true?”
Jayden, who had half shifted too leisurely, spun around to face her. He started stammering her name, but she spoke over him.
I heard everything, Jayden. I want to hear it from you. Was it all fake? Did you never love me? Was I never your mate? But… but you marked me here. She pointed at her neck. You told me it’s an official mark of claim. Was it all a lie? Fuck, this is not what I wanted now. I cursed. The hurt and confusion on her face made my heart ache with guilt. Jayden attempted to approach her, but she snapped, stopping him in his trucks.
I just want an answer. She persisted.
*BOOM!’* The sudden sound startled all of us. Vampires. As the word escaped my lips, I reacted quickly and rushed to Catriona’s side, holding her protectively in my arms before Jayden could move an inch. He stared at Catriona for a moment before shifting into his wolf form and leaping away:
Is it happening? Are the vampires going to kill us?”‘ Catriona asked, her voice filled with panic and fear. Holding her tightly, I made her look at me and reassured her, Don’t worry, pumpkin. I won’t let them come near you.”
The sounds of shifting wolves filled the air, accompanied by their menacing growls.
Is this what you were talking about? I mean the person inside you. I said to catriona. I’m not sure but I guess it is. She replied. Alright.
Let’s go to the front of the house and assess the situation. However, you should stay inside with your family” I concluded. As we took our first step, a vampire suddenly appeared. His fangs bared, targeting Catriona’s neck. Without hesitation, I swiftly intervened, placing my arms between them. The vampire’s fangs pierced through my arm, causing Catriona to scream in terror. Reacting quickly, I shifted into my wolf form, tearing off the vampire’s head. I then shifted back to human form and
rushed to comfort the frightened Catriona. As I held her in my arms, her trembling body gradually eased. I could feel her heart pounding against my chest as she clung to me, her tear-stained face buried in my shoulder. “It’s alright, pumpkin,” I whispered soothingly, gently stroking her hair. “You’re safe now. I won’t let anything harm you.”
Taking a deep breath, I glanced down at the wound on my arm where the vampire had sunk its fangs. Dark blood oozed from the puncture marks, but I knew that my supernatural abilities would heal the injury in no time.
The smell of vampires grew stronger, indicating their increasing numbers. Realising the gravity of the situation, I pulled Catriona close to me, feeling her trembling body cling to mine. I safely guided her back into the house and instructed her not to leave until the vampires were eradicated. She appeared
both scared and distraught by what she had heard. Without uttering a word, she walked away, leaving my heart shattered.
Suppressing my emotions, I swiftly shifted and leaped into the chaotic scene in the front yard where I witnessed a brutal battle between dying wolves and emerging vampires. The bloodsuckers seemed to be multiplying in every corner. It was well known that werewolves and vampires were not allies, so I wondered what Jayden had done to provoke such a fierce retaliation from these creatures.
I moved my eyes around for Jayden and spotted him fighting a group of vampires who had surrounded him. They were trying to immobilise him so they could do whatever they pleased. I hope they know their effort was futile. Jayden’s movements were fluid and precise, a testament to being an alpha. His pack members, equally adept in combat, fought alongside him, forming a formidable force against their supernatural adversaries.
On the other side his other pack members were skilled fighters and were holding their own over there. As I observed the situation, a vampire leaped onto my back and attempted to sink his fangs. l quickly shook him off and went for his throat before joining the battle.
Together, we managed to eliminate most of the vampires, although they continued to come, albeit with less vigour. Unfortunately, Jayden’s pack also suffered some losses, but that’s a common occurrence for all packs. It’s always painful though.
As the battle raged on, it became evident that the vampires had gravely underestimated the
strength and unity of Jayden’s pack. The pack together fought with unwavering determination, each covering the other’s blind spots and offering support whenever needed. Their bond as a pack was unbreakable, and it showed in their synchronised attacks and seamless teamwork.
Despite the bloodsukers’ initial advantage in numbers, they soon found themselves outmatched. I hoped to see them retreat but then a graved voice echoed through.
Now I had enough, little brother. The brutal voice said.
I turned to the voice and was petrified to see the bigger one out of them dressed in all silver with catriona in his hands choking her.
