CATRIONA
l gazed wide-eyed, still processing what just happened where I hurried over to Jayden, as he appeared to be in pain. My love and concern for him compelled me to reach out, but instead, a powerful gust of wind blew through me, separating us. I stumbled backward, my heart pounding in my chest.
Fortunately, Gabriel was behind me and caught me before I hit the ground. His strong arms wrapped around me, providing a sense of stability amidst the chaos. I clung to him, grateful for his presence in this bewildering moment.
Without hesitation, I turned to face the witches, my Voice trembling with a mix of fear and anger. “Did you do this? Are you responsible for what just happened?” I demanded, my eyes narrowing as I awaited
their response.
The witches exchanged glances, their expressions filled with surprise and confusion. One of them with silver hair, stepped forward, her voice gentle yet resolute. “No, we had
nothing to do with it,” she replied.
My mind raced, trying to make sense of the situation. If the witches weren’t responsible, then who or what Was? The gust of wind- felt deliberate, almost malicious. It seemed to be directed at Jayden, as if someone wanted to keep us apart.
Jayden, now standing a few feet away, clenched his jaw in flabbergasted disbelief, but his gaze remained fixed on mine.
Your okay man? Gabriel asked Jayden from behind me.
“What are you doing here with those witches?” Jayden asked, his muscles tensed. Before Gabriel could answer, I interrupted.
“They came for something important from your house,” I explained. Jayden turned his attention towards me. “Clara’s condition isn’t…” I started to say, but Vanessa suddenly appeared in the doorway and muttered something in a language I never heard of.
“Do you know them?” Jayden asked.
Vanessa stumbled backwards, her eyes widening in astonishment. It was a reaction I hadn’t expected, and it made her lose her balance, causing her to stumble.
And what happened next was the old witch pushing right past us toward Vanessa, her eyes fixed on her. My mind suddenly raced with the realisation of what this could mean. Could it be possible that Vanessa was Clara’s mother? It seemed absurd, almost impossible, but Vannesa’s reaction confirmed my doubts.
Vanessa stood frozen in place, her body immobile. Her eyes held a mix of fear, confusion, and perhaps even recognition.
The witch extended her gnarled hand, her trembling fingers hovering just inches from Vannesa’s face. I’m not sure if it was Jayden’s protective wolf alpha instincts that prompted him to intervene, but the old witch thwarted his approach by magically propelling him on a massive porch pole, causing it to crack.
I glared down at the witch, consumed by pure rage. The air around me became heavy with anger. I wanted nothing more than to kill her on the spot, but fear rooted me to the ground. I was terrified that if I dared to challenge her she’d do the same to me.
My blood boiled as I heard the furious growls from the pack members who had already shifted. I knew they wouldn’t stand idly by after what the witch had done to their alpha. I turned around and saw them charging towards the witch in significant numbers. Lost in my thoughts, I failed to realize the danger I was in until strong hands grabbed me- it was Gabriel. He swiftly carried me inside the house and gently sat me down.
“Are you okay?” he asked, concerned. “You have to watch your back, pumpkin. Those wolves would have killed you.”
This isn’t what we came for here. I need to stop them,” I said, getting up to leave but Gabriel’s hands held me in place with firm yet gentle strength.
“You aren’t going anywhere. I’ll stop them.” “Why don’t you go check on your brother?” I’m sure you’ve missed him,” he suggested.
If this was a word bribe of destruction it sure did cause I missed Edrine and Miss Olivier. I don’t know how they’re doing. The chaos outside started getting everyone’s attention in the house but some couldn’t go out for some reason I don’t know but only to stare at me and Gabriel.
Gabriel placed a kiss on my forehead and everyone in the house gasped but it didn’t bother Gabriel a bit, except me of course.
Don’t worry about a thing and go meet your brother. I will cease the fire outside.
Be careful then. I mindlinked to him. He smiled and helped me up. I’ll, pumpkin. He replied before disappearing out the door.
Ignoring disgusted looks from everyone around me, I proceeded towards the elevator. However, my path was locked by three women of my similar age, all wearing smug expressions. They stood there, arms crossed, forming a human barricade that seemed impenetrable.
I took a deep breath, reminding myself to stay calm and composed. It was clear that they’re
were intentionally trying to provoke a reaction from me, but I refused to let them succeed. I wasn’t about to let their negativity affect me.
With a polite smile, I politely asked, “Excuse me, could I please get through? I need to catch the elevator.” One with red hair uncrossed her arms and stepped forward. She looked me up and down disgustedly and then spat on me, making others laugh as it was so amusing. “Why should we let you through little slut?” She sneered. She bent down to my level and looked me up and down. Then she said, “ls our alpha’s dick not
enough to satisfy you that you decided to fuck another alpha?”
I was taken aback by her words, but I managed to respond. “Don’t speak about things you don’t know.
Just let me through, because I don’t want to fight with you.” As if I had mocked her, she opened her mouth to speak, but a voice from behind me interrupted her. “If I were you, I wouldn’t mess with her. Let her go for the sake of your life.” I didn’t bother looking back because I already knew who was talking -Eliana. The three women turned to face Eliana, questioning her motives. “Why do you care about her? Didn’t you say she caused your grandmother’s death? Have you already forgiven her?”
I felt suffocated as her words pierced my heart like thorns. Does everyone in this house believe I killed her grandmother?
“If you don’t want to end up like my grandmother, then let her go,” Eliana said. “I
won’t.” “What are you going to do?” The redhead replied defiantly.
Can you handle it if I mindlink the alpha and inform him about how you all are mistreating his mate?
Do you think all of you can last even a minute once he receives this information?
This information seemed to register with them as they stepped aside for me. I entered the elevator and Eliana followed suit. We rode up in an uncomfortable silence until she stepped out. I continued up and into Jayden’s bedroom and quickly changed into clean clothes.
As I made my way to another wing where my brother was, my thoughts drifted to Jayden’s people. From the first day I met them, they
never welcomed me. I always held onto the hope that one day they would like me and accept me but now I realise that it will never happen. The elevator dinged and the doors opened. I slipped out and headed to Ms. Oliver’s room, hoping for a warm welcome from my brother, only to find him in a deep sleep. I gave Ms Oliver a big hug feeling a little better. I missed you guys. I said. After a Moment Ms Oliver broke the hug and motioned me to sit on the bed.
You don’t look well child. Is something troubling you? A lot has been happening lately, Ms. Oliver. Is it about your boyfriends? she asked. Well, it’s related to them. I’ve reached a conclusion. I’m ending my relationships with them. What happened? Did they do something to you? She asked, concerned.
It’s not that, Ms Oliver. It’s just that… I’ve realised that I’m not the right fit for each of them. Ever since I came into their lives, things have been chaotic. So… I’ll consider it a positive dream where I learned about love but have to wake up.
