She had been drinking and called a designated driver.
After getting in the car, she half-closed her eyes and rested.
Halfway through, she received a call from Chris. The man’s voice was very soft, “Are you still working late?”
“I’m on my way home,” Ranita said after a pause, and then smiled, “Why are you calling me suddenly? Do you have a project to discuss with me?”
Chris chuckled softly, “You’re almost richer than me, and you’re still working so hard?”
Mr. Goodman and Chris were good friends, and they also had some overlapping investments, so Chris was aware of Ranita’s considerable wealth.
“I’m not really busy,” Ranita said. The work she took on was selective, and compared to other workers, it was already very good.
Coming back to help Jedidiah was a no-brainer.
Although Benedict was not her biological father, he had taken her as the apple of his eye since she was young, and she knew that he doted on her.
It’s just that Chole has a blood relationship with them, and their indulgence towards her was more out of guilt than pity.
Ranita wanted to get along peacefully with Chole, but it was unsuccessful.
“Take care of yourself while you’re working and taking care of Ayaan,” Chris said after a pause, “Do you have time this weekend? If you do, how about we go to Kora’s house?”
“I don’t have any plans for now, I’ll bring Ayaan then. Will you be there?” Ranita said, thinking of Dylan’s matter and shared the gossip with him, “You know Dylan is in a relationship, right?”
“Dylan?” Chris asked in surprise, “A person like him can find a girlfriend?”
“Don’t underestimate Dylan! He has a cheerful personality, is good to friends, runs his own business, and is good-looking. Why can’t he find a girlfriend?!”
Ranita didn’t expect Chris to have such a low opinion of his own brother.
“Am I not better than him? I haven’t found a girlfriend either,” Chris sighed.
“You have too high standards and can’t find anyone,” Ranita said with a smile, “You’re just too picky.”
Ranita and Chris have maintained a friendly relationship over the years and are quite familiar with each other. She asked, “Are you like this, is Grandpa Webster worried? Does Kora keep nagging you?”
“Of course, she nags, but I really don’t have time to date,” Chris quickly changed the topic, “By the way, that Eve is your good friend, right? She’s been in a bit of trouble lately. Do you need my help?”
“No need…” Ranita said, glancing at the rearview mirror, she happened to meet the designated driver’s gaze.
It was just a brief glance, but Ranita felt a sense of familiarity.
It seemed like she had seen it somewhere before.
“I’ve already asked Mr. Goodman to take care of it, so there’s no need to trouble you.” Ranita continued, “If it really can’t be resolved, I’ll ask for your help.”
Ranita paid attention to the road and was relieved to see that it was indeed the way back to her apartment.
Previously, she had been harassed several times and was now a bit paranoid.
After chatting with Chris, the car arrived just in time.
The designated driver took the money and left.
Ranita returned home, and Ayaan happily ran over, “Mommy!”
“Have you been drinking?” Ranita asked.
Ayaan, with the smell of alcohol on her, pinched his little nose and hummed in disgust, “Mommy, you’re not being obedient!”
“Mommy only had a little fruit wine. Today, Auntie Eve and Uncle Dylan had something good to celebrate, so we drank a bit together.”
“Hmph! You celebrated something good without me!” Ayaan, with his chubby little hands on his hips, looked very cute with his fierce baby voice.
