Ranita wanted to retort, but the words couldn’t come out of her mouth.
“Hmph! I don’t want to talk to you! Just leave,” Ranita said, wanting to drive him away and calm herself down.
The belated heartache was of no value to her. She didn’t care.
“Don’t be angry!” Brendon lowered his voice, as if coaxing her. “Although I find your jealousy endearing, being angry all the time is not good for your health.”
“I’m not jealous!” Ranita refused to admit it!
“I’m not! Stop saying things like that!”
Seeing her fierce expression, Brendon nodded in agreement. “Yes, yes, you’re not jealous.” He reached out and held her hand, gently caressing it, and asked softly, “Please don’t be angry, okay?”
Ranita was angry, angry at Brendon for always favoring Shannon, but she was even angrier at herself.
Ranita calmed herself down and said calmly, “I’m not angry, really.” Pausing for a moment, she pursed her lips and continued, “Ayaan is already over three years old. That paternity test report means nothing to me. Even if we wanted to investigate something, we can’t go back to the past.”
“Also, you are Shannon’s fiancé. When you go to her house, take care of her or not, it’s your own business. I have no right to interfere.”
“I have work to do later. You should go back now.”
Seeing her cold demeanor, Brendon felt uneasy. In truth, he owed her.
As Jedidiah had said, he still had an engagement with Shannon. He didn’t even have the right to pursue Ranita at the moment.
“Ranita, give me some time, and I will handle everything.”
After Brendon left, Ranita lay on the bed feeling powerless.
During the day, she was busy with work, and in the evening, she had to go to the Webster Residence to congratulate Diego on his birthday. The last time she came here, she was still a member of the Stuart family, but this time, she received the invitation card separately.
Originally, Ranita didn’t plan to go, but she couldn’t resist Chris and Dylan’s invitations, insisting that she must come.
For such a celebration, she had to wear a formal dress. Since she was here for work this time and didn’t bring a gown, she could only pick a ready-made one from a boutique.
At three o’clock in the afternoon, Ranita met Kora and went to the boutique together. As a regular customer, Kora was warmly received by the staff.
“Help her pick a dress,” Kora pointed at Ranita, with a hint of regret on her face. “If you had told me earlier, I would have helped you order a good one. Now it’s too rushed, so we can only choose from the available options.”
“Ranita, you’re so beautiful, with a great figure. If we had a custom-made gown, you would be stunning!” Kora praised, making Ranita feel a bit embarrassed. “Kora, you’re exaggerating. I’m not as good as you say.”
“Oh, don’t be modest! I mean it…” Just as she was speaking, Kora suddenly fell silent and had a slightly unnatural expression. She pulled Ranita and said, “Let’s go inside and wait!”
“Ranita, Kora, what a coincidence! Are you here to pick dresses too?” A familiar, sweet voice sounded, and Ranita’s back instantly felt a chill.
Ranita turned around and not only saw Shannon but also Amiya, sitting in a wheelchair and arrogantly looking down at people.
This was truly unfortunate.
Encountering two people she didn’t want to see directly.
“Heh, it’s quite a coincidence!” Kora smiled. “Amiya, didn’t you say you weren’t feeling well? Why are you here?”
“Shannon is my future daughter-in-law. I’m accompanying her to try on dresses. Of course, I don’t have any health issues now,” Amiya said, casting a disdainful gaze at Ranita…
