Ranita ignored her and turned to Augustus, saying, “Augustus, didn’t you say you wanted to meet some friends? You go ahead. We’ll meet inside later.”
Augustus asked softly, “Do you need any help?”
“No, I don’t!” Ranita gave him a signal with her eyes. “You go!”
Augustus left with reassurance.
“Ranita, is this your boyfriend? Why didn’t you introduce him before leaving?” Lily asked with a smug smile, her gaze carrying a hint of mockery.
Ranita looked at her calmly and asked, “Is there something you need?” She had no intention of answering any other questions.
Faced with Ranita’s indifference, Lily felt a bit embarrassed and forced a smile. After a while, she awkwardly said, “Ranita, we were classmates, but you’re being so cold. I’m just concerned about you. There’s no need for you to act so superior.”
“Miss Lane, you came over without any manners. Do I still need to be polite to you?” Ranita smiled, pursing her lips. “I don’t need that kind of concern.”
Lily couldn’t hold back anymore and stopped pretending.
“Ranita, you really have no shame! I genuinely cared about you, but you’re ignoring me! In the past, I had a good opinion of you. After all, you had a prominent position in Kurima and now, for these past few years, you’ve disappeared without a trace and found yourself an ugly and pathetic boyfriend. You’ve truly fallen.”
Ranita was speechless.
She had kept a low profile these past few years, but people treated her as if she were a stray cat that could be bullied at will.
“Lily, you say I’ve fallen, but have you seen Kurima Foreign Studies University take down the pictures of their outstanding students?”
“Wasn’t that because they wanted to save face for your professor? Maybe they’ve been wanting to take them down for a long time!” Lily retorted with dissatisfaction. “Without TranslateAble Studio, you’re just working for others. What are you pretending for?”
Ranita sneered.
“Why are you laughing?” Lily felt disdained and grew angry. “You failed in your entrepreneurial venture in Kurima and left in disgrace. You have the nerve to mock me! My husband and I have a studio that is much stronger than your former TranslateAble Studio.”
TranslateAble Studio used to be a leading presence in Kurima, but after it was directly taken over by Holly, combined with Ranita leaving Kurima, a new group of people emerged.
Lily had the confidence to speak like this.
She had indeed risen in Kurima, and now her business had expanded to Steland. She even asked around about Ranita and found no trace of her in the translation circle of Steland, which made Lily quite satisfied.
“You came to Steland, but you haven’t made a name for yourself. Are you relying on a man now? You must be after his money, considering you’re still with such an ugly man.”
Ranita felt sorry for Augustus.
“Lily, please show some respect! Some people may have all their facial features intact, but their hearts are black.” Ranita looked at Lily sharply, her tone more serious than before.
“Why am I laughing? I’m laughing at your narrow-mindedness. TranslateAble Studio was just a small studio, but you feel so proud of yourself for surpassing a small goal.”
“If you have the time… no, if you have the connections, why don’t you go to Kurima Foreign Studies University and inquire about how much money I donate to the school every year!”
Ranita couldn’t be bothered to talk to someone like Lily anymore.
But to her surprise, Lily followed her, saying, “What are you looking at? I’m going in too. This auction venue doesn’t belong to you. Can’t I go down this path?”
Ranita pursed her lips, feeling even more speechless.
