With a loud thud, Ranita slammed into the wall, her forehead throbbing with pain. Before she could react, Holly’s sharp voice rang out from behind her.
“Ranita, you jinx! What did you do to my brother?”
Holly had arrived full of energy and ready to take down Ranita. But when she called Brendon’s secretary and found out he was in the hospital, her anger turned towards Ranita.
“If anything happens to my brother, I won’t let you get away with it.”
Finally coming to her senses, Ranita glared coldly at Holly. “What are you talking about? You’re acting crazy! Don’t mess with me!”
It had been years since they last saw each other but Holly hadn’t changed one bit – still impulsive and unreasonable as ever.
“Don’t mess with me? Perfect timing because I want to see how tough you really are!” Holly sneered. “Where is my brother?”
Despite being angry herself, Holly still cared for Brendon.
Ranita didn’t bother responding and started walking away.
“Stop right there!” Holly caught up and blocked her path. Chin held high in arrogance, she demanded, “Are you trying to hide him from me? Who do you think you are? Tell me where he is!”
Smiling slyly at the absurdity of it all, Ranita raised an eyebrow, “We don’t have a good relationship so why should I tell you anything? Go find him yourself.”
“You!” Furious now, Holly stamped her feet. “Don’t get too cocky here, Ranita. If it weren’t for my brother’s situation, I’d be taking care of you right now.”
Before another word could be said, a familiar voice interrupted them, “Holly, you must have some kind of mental problem, right?” It was Allen!
Surprised, Ranita watched as Allen approached them. “Allen?”she exclaimed happily.
“Ranita!” Allen grinned widely, his hand waving in greeting. “I got a call from Brendon’s secretary so I rushed over here.”
“Hold on,” Allen turned back towards Holly, “let me talk to her first.” And then he dragged Holly away with him. Ranita had no idea what they talked about, but when Allen came back, Holly was still glaring at her but remained silent. Rare indeed!
The situation regarding both Brendon and Ayaan was unclear. Holly guarded Brendon while Ranita guarded Ayaan, and Allen ran between both sides. The atmosphere was eerie, but surprisingly balanced.
Another day passed, and Ayaan’s fever subsided. He woke up in a daze, and everyone except Holly, who had a constantly changing mood, was overjoyed.
Ayaan was transferred back to a regular ward and became more and more energetic.
“Mommy, mommy!” Ayaan called out several times before Ranita snapped back to reality. “What’s wrong, Ayaan?”
“Mommy, why are you always daydreaming!”
Ayaan’s chubby face had become a bit thinner, but he had a good foundation. With his fair and delicate features, he was still a beautiful child, which made the nurses and doctors fond of him.
He said, “Mommy, I want to go see Uncle Stuart. Can I?”
Ranita pursed her lips. Although Brendon had also been transferred to a regular ward, he hadn’t woken up yet.
Brendon was still unconscious, and Ranita kept it a secret from Kurima. If they found out, it would surely cause a great disturbance.
“Mommy, why aren’t you saying anything?!” Though young, Ayaan had vague memories. He remembered almost drowning and Uncle Stuart pulling him out of the water.
“Mommy, can’t I go see Uncle Stuart? He saved me from the water, and now I like Uncle Stuart more and more.”
