“Brendon!”
“Ayaan!”
Ranita’s blood ran cold and her mind felt like it was about to explode. The heavy object falling into the river caused a splash of water on the surface, followed by a small black dot sinking into the water.
“Brendon! Ayaan!” Ranita screamed at the top of her lungs, but her voice couldn’t reach down below. She became frantic with worry.
“Ranita!” Just then, Jedidiah arrived with police officers!
Ranita urgently said, “Send in divers quickly! Sophia jumped in with Ayaan and Brendon followed after them!”
Jedidiah’s face turned dark upon hearing this news. The police immediately contacted divers and gave them their location before suggesting they go to the riverbank to take a look.
Ranita was beside herself with worry; she felt as if she had lost all sense of direction.
“Don’t worry,” Jedidiah comforted her, “they say that bad luck lasts for centuries but Brendon will be fine! He should be able to find Ayaan.”
“Really?” Ranita’s heart was in turmoil as she looked up at Jedidiah; there was a glimmer of hopelessness in her eyes that lacked focus.
“Brendon is good at swimming and he has youth on his side; he should be able to save Ayaan,” Jedidiah reassured her.
As soon as they arrived at the riverbank, Ranita rushed out of the car immediately. The waves on the surface were coming one after another and Ranita tried hard to find Brendon’s trace but from such distance nothing could be seen clearly.
“No! I have to go down and find them!” Ranita grabbed a life jacket and tried to put it on, ready to jump into the water. Jedidiah quickly stopped her, saying, “Are you crazy? Even if you have the strength to swim over there, can you swim back?”
“The lifeboats are coming soon, let’s split up and search!”
Soon enough, the lifeboats arrived, and Ranita and Jedidiah each boarded one and headed towards the center of the river. Ranita kept scanning the water’s surface, searching.
At that moment, people still on the bridge were shouting desperately, waving their hands to indicate the direction for them.
Ranita looked in the direction they were pointing and was terrified. A black head was floating about several tens of meters ahead of her, holding a small bundle in its hands…
“Over there! Over there!” Ranita shouted loudly.
The lifeboat accelerated towards the location, but before they could get close, Brendon, holding Ayaan, was swept away by the water, drifting a distance away. Ayaan was being held steadily above the water, but Brendon seemed to be sinking due to exhaustion…
“Faster! Hurry up!” Ranita’s heart was pounding as she urged them desperately.
By the time Ranita arrived, Jedidiah was already there. He immediately jumped into the water, reached out, took Ayaan, and then pulled up Brendon, who was pale and almost unconscious.
The rescue team immediately performed water rescue on Ayaan and Brendon and then sent them to the hospital.
The wait in the emergency room felt like an eternity.
At first, Jedidiah and Ranita didn’t say a word to each other. After a while, Alexia hurriedly arrived, her face pale, and asked, “Where’s Ayaan? Is Ayaan okay?”
“He’s still being treated!” Jedidiah supported Alexia and his gaze fell on Ranita. “You should talk to Ranita, she hasn’t had a sip of water.”
Ranita had stayed up all night and had been searching for people. She looked terrible.
“Ranita, eat something, drink some water.” Alexia hugged Ranita with concern. “You’ll have to take care of Ayaan when he comes out!”
Those words helped bring Ranita back to her senses.
She looked at Alexia and mechanically took the water and snacks, stuffing them into her mouth, one bite at a time.
