Ranita raised an eyebrow and asked Brendon, “Brendon, do you want to talk to Miss Murphy?”
Seeing the annoyance in her eyes, Brendon quickly shook his head.
“I’m sorry, Brendon is busy and can’t take the call. If you have any issues, you can tell me, and I’ll pass the message along.”
“Ranita… As Brendon’s fiancée, do I need your permission to talk to him?”
Shannon was getting angry, but afraid that Brendon would overhear, she forced herself to speak in a fake tone. “Ranita, how could you be so outrageous and bully me like this! If I’ve done something to upset you, just say it, and I’ll apologize to you.”
“But you can’t stop me from contacting my fiancé.” Shannon paused and continued to provoke her. “Brendon and I are getting married soon. Then we’ll be husband and wife. Do you still want to meddle in our affairs, Ranita? You are Brendon’s ex-wife, and I respect you, but please leave me alone and don’t interfere with me and Brendon.”
Ranita smirked and handed the phone to Brendon after ending the call. Brendon had heard every word Shannon said, and he frowned as he spoke, “Shannon, I have something to attend to. I will go back to Kurima later. Caleb should already be at the hospital. You can instruct him to do anything you need.”
“Brendon…” Shannon’s voice sounded more aggrieved. “But… I miss you… I feel so sad when I can’t see you. I can’t eat or sleep well.”
“I didn’t intentionally end up in the hospital. I couldn’t sleep, so I took a few sleeping pills. It was Cindy who got too worried.”
Despite Shannon’s soft and weak voice, she spoke at a rapid pace.
As Shannon continued speaking, her voice choked up, “The doctor said my condition worsened, Brendon… Please talk to the doctor. My condition hasn’t worsened; it’s just that I can’t stop my mind from wandering when I can’t see you. It’s not intentional, but I can’t help it. I keep thinking about that child…”
Mentioning the child, Brendon’s face turned even colder.
It was the stain he least wanted to face. If it weren’t for that accident, he and Ranita wouldn’t have ended up in this situation.
“Miss Murphy, I heard Brendon say you have depression?” Ranita asked calmly but with a hint of mockery in her tone.
“I heard you speak so clearly, with ups and downs in your tone. Your emotions are no different from before. I can’t believe it until Brendon confirms it! Since you’re unwell, you should stay in the hospital and rest.”
“By the way, do you need me to send flowers for a visit? If you need it, give me an address, and I’ll have a delivery guy bring them. Hopefully, beautiful flowers can improve your mood.”
After spouting nonsense, Ranita added, “As for Brendon, he has something to attend to in Steland.”
“Take care of yourself, Miss Murphy.”
Ranita didn’t give Shannon a chance to speak and hung up the phone directly. She handed the phone back to Brendon, her eyes indifferent. “If you want to go back to Kurima, I won’t stop you.”
“Ayaan is my child, and I won’t neglect him,” Brendon said, and then he suddenly smiled and pursed his lips. “Ranita, why are you so fierce now?”
“Hehe! I thought you would be angry if I confronted Shannon!”
Brendon knew it was a trap, so he carefully chose his words. “I’m not angry. It’s just that Shannon has always been like that since she was young. She doesn’t mean any harm.”
Several years had passed, and Ranita had become more mature.
She smiled without warmth. “You’re right!”
