Waiting always makes people anxious. Ranita wanted to go out and find Ayaan, but without a purpose it would only waste time. She could only continue waiting for news.
“Ranita!” A low, hoarse voice came from above, and as she looked up Brendon’s light entered her pupils.
In an instant, Ranita felt her cold heart warm up.
“Brendon!”
Ranita hadn’t slept all night and her face was already haggard; her eyes were red and slightly swollen from crying.
Brendon approached quickly and hugged Ranita.
“I’m sorry!” Brendon’s eyes were sore with tears. “I shouldn’t have left you and Ayaan at the hospital! I’m sorry! It’s my fault!”
Tears fell from Ranita’s eyes like raindrops; she didn’t want to trace whose fault it was anymore – she just wanted her little one back soon.
Her tears wetted the corner of his shirt as she clutched onto his hand, crying for a long time as if wanting to vent all of her emotions.
Ranita actually felt a bit embarrassed, but she couldn’t hold it in any longer. Last time in Berlin, Ayaan had an accident, and now it happened again. She felt a lot of self-blame, knowing that she hadn’t done what a mother should do.
“Brendon, I’m fine now.” Ranita released Brendon. “Thank you.”
“Have a drink. Coffee that you like.” Brendon handed her a cup of coffee, a brand she used to drink frequently back when she was at Stuart’s Corp. She didn’t expect him to remember.
“I have arranged for people to help. We will retrieve the traffic surveillance footage as soon as possible to find Ayaan.” Brendon was also worried. Ayaan was still so young and sick. He had no idea how he was doing now!
“Ranita, don’t worry. Ayaan will be fine. He will be fine!” Brendon stayed with Ranita, even bought her food and drinks. “You didn’t rest well last night. Take a nap for a while!”
“I can’t sleep!”
“Ranita… They will inform me if they have any updates. Just close your eyes and rest, even if you fall asleep. What if you exhaust yourself?” Just then, Brendon’s phone rang.
Brendon ended the call with an unpleasant expression.
Ranita could tell it was Shannon calling. She felt a bit annoyed and said, “You’re not going to answer Miss Murphy’s call?”
“Caleb has taken care of it. She’s fine.”
Shannon had been struggling with depression for years, always overthinking things, but it wouldn’t endanger her life.
“Is that so? Can you really not go back?”
“Ranita, Caleb will handle things on Shannon’s side. Let’s find Ayaan first.” Brendon paused and continued in a hoarse voice, “Thank you for letting me know. Ayaan is also my son. I should take responsibility when something happens to him.”
He was right.
We all have a responsibility when it comes to a child. It’s not right for him to do nothing.
Just then, Brendon’s phone rang again, Shannon calling once more. Brendon was about to hang up, but Ranita reached out and answered the call.
“Brendon, you finally answered my call…” Shannon’s voice was coquettish and pitiful.
Ranita pursed her lips, her voice cold, “Miss Murphy, this is Ranita.”
“Ranita…” Shannon was surprised. “Why is it you? This is Brendon’s phone…”
Ranita glanced at Brendon and smirked, “I’m sorry, Miss Murphy. Brendon is busy right now and may not have time to go back to Kurima. I hope you understand.”
“Ranita, when did you become so audacious!” Shannon’s face changed slightly, her voice filled with annoyance. “Give the phone to Brendon. I want to talk to Brendon.”
