Ranita held Ayaan tightly, feeling like her heart had been punched hard. She pursed her lips and looked up at Brendon with a smile. “Did something happen to Miss Murphy?”
“Just now, Shannon’s assistant called and said she took a lot of sleeping pills…” Brendon paused, looking helpless. “I’ll send someone over here.”
Ranita knew that Shannon often used these kinds of tactics.
But Brendon couldn’t let go.
“It’s okay, you can go,” Ranita said, lowering her head without looking at him. Brendon didn’t know how to talk to Ranita about the accident four years ago that tied him and Shannon together forever. He couldn’t get rid of it or shirk responsibility.
“Ranita, Shannon is sick… that child…”
One sentence instantly brought out the pain hidden deep in Ranita’s heart. Her eyes became teary as she interrupted coldly, “Enough! Don’t tell me anything else about Shannon!”
“Go away!”
Ranita was indifferent, “I don’t want to argue with you.”
Brendon left.
Ranita held Ayaan tightly and felt very uneasy inside.
Her eyes were heavy with sadness.
“Ma’am… Was that the child’s father just now?” Suddenly, a woman holding a baby in the neighboring bed spoke to her.
It was a face full of sorrow, dressed modestly, alone with a small baby, looking quite pitiful.
“Yes,” Ranita responded indifferently, and then she heard the woman continue, “You divorced him, right? I also divorced my child’s father. I called him just now, asking him to bring me to the hospital, but he didn’t care.”
“We are both mothers, destined to be strong. Don’t be sad.”
Ranita smiled kindly at her, “Thank you!”
“You’re welcome!” The woman replied, then leaned forward to look at Ayaan, her eyes shining, “Your child looks really good! But you and the child’s father also look good, you both have a noble appearance, so it’s normal for the child to be good-looking.”
Ranita didn’t really want to talk, but not answering would be impolite, so she had to respond, “We’re just ordinary people. You’re too kind with your compliments!”
After chatting casually for a while, the woman noticed that Ranita wasn’t very enthusiastic, so she didn’t want to bother her anymore.
The baby started crying again, and the woman didn’t have time to chat either.
At first, Ranita found the baby noisy, but not long after, the child suddenly had an emergency situation and was taken for emergency treatment by the doctors and nurses.
Ranita held on until dawn, and the woman returned in a daze…
The baby was gone, the woman’s eyes cried like walnuts, but she was all alone, even if she was sad and heartbroken, there was no one to help.
Ranita didn’t know what to say, she could only silently watch her packing her things.
The sorrows and joys of people are not universal, and the hospital is the place where they are witnessed the most.
Perhaps too saddened, the woman finished packing and sat on the ground, crying her heart out, crying so painfully that Ranita felt sympathy.
Later, a nurse came and finally managed to console her and help her continue packing.
“Take care of yourself, your child must be well. My daughter is really pitiful…” The woman said, about to cry again. Ranita could only comfort her with a single sentence, “Take care, Ma’am.”
The nurse came to remove the needle from Ayaan and said there was nothing else to do, so they could go home. Ranita breathed a sigh of relief and sent a message to Jedidiah asking him to come.
She had to wait a while for him to arrive, so Ranita couldn’t hold it and went to the bathroom. Just as she closed the door, she heard hurried footsteps leaving the ward.
When she was done, Ranita realized that the ward was empty.
