Book:A Successful Career After Divorce Published:2024-6-4

Ranita’s ears were itchy and she couldn’t hear very clearly.
“What did you say?” she asked softly, feeling dizzy and disoriented despite being sober. It was as if she had drunk too much again.
The ear seemed to have been bitten, then turned into a light kiss. The wet tongue was spinning on her earlobe, and his voice was unclearly saying, “Ranita, you big liar.”
“I got it! Ayaan told me!”
Brendon’s emotions had not settled down since then. He watched Ranita go upstairs with a heavy heart, and to his surprise, when he turned his head, he saw Ayaan standing on the road lost in thought.
Brendon asked how he could come down by himself.
Ayaan said in confusion, “My uncle told me that my mother has come back…”
Brendon immediately thought of Jedidiah. With a trembling heart, he asked Ayaan many questions.
At first, Brendon couldn’t believe it. He asked the CEO he was working with about it and surprisingly, it turned out to be true. Ranita was Benedict’s daughter and Jedidiah’s sister!
So, Jedidiah was not someone she actually liked; she had been fooling him all along!
“Benedict is your father, Jedidiah is your brother,… Ranita, you lied to me!”
With that statement, Ranita snapped back to reality. She forcefully pushed Brendon away and looked at him with pursed lips. “Brendon, just leave!”
“I’m not leaving!” Brendon’s lips curled with anger. “You’ve been deceiving me with this lie for so many years!”
Ranita’s heart was in chaos. “Yes, I lied to you. It’s not Jedidiah; it’s someone else!”
“I guess you don’t want to discuss him with me, huh?”
Yes! Even if Jedidiah isn’t the person she likes, it could be someone else. The man who resides in her heart truly exists.
Brendon’s heart felt as if it were being cut by a knife.
“Brendon, I need to rest!” Ranita rudely rushed him.
“Ranita…” Brendon began, but a faint cry interrupted him. “Mommy…”
“Ayaan!” Ranita immediately reacted and saw Ayaan standing in the corridor, staring at them intently.
Brendon was still holding her, their actions intimate.
“Mommy… I don’t feel well…” Ayaan’s voice was weak, his bright eyes lacking their usual luster, and his little face drooping.
Upon hearing her son say he wasn’t feeling well, Ranita glared at Brendon, forcing him to let go.
Ranita hugged Ayaan and realized he was burning up!
She was frightened to the core. “Brendon, Ayaan seems to have a fever!”
“I’ll take you to the hospital.”
“Okay! I’ll hold Ayaan, and I’ll grab some essentials!” Ranita quickly grabbed a few necessary items, and the two of them hurriedly took the child to the hospital.
In the middle of the night, the emergency room had several other children with fevers. One particularly young child was crying incessantly, and it broke Ranita’s heart to hear it.
Brendon noticed her continuous gaze at the baby and asked, not knowing what came to her mind, “Has Ayaan been to the emergency room when he was this young?”
“Yes!” Ranita recalled some unpleasant memories and spoke in a flat tone. “When he was just born, Slovenia was still very cold. He suddenly had a fever, so I took him to a private clinic. The doctor told me to let him endure it on his own and, if necessary, give him some medicine. But when I got home, in the middle of the night, Ayaan’s temperature suddenly rose to over 39 degrees. I was terrified and carried him out to find a doctor…”
