Chapter 502 Opened Up

Book:A Successful Career After Divorce Published:2024-6-4

Ranita was forced to step back. The elevator was small, and she had to take a few steps back before reaching the end. She looked at Brendon with cold eyes and asked, “Brendon, what are you doing here?”
“Why are you here?” Brendon’s narrow eyes narrowed even further as he looked at her with a dangerous glint in his eye.
“What does it matter where I am?!” Ranita gritted her teeth. “Excuse me, please let me out!”
Ranita pushed past Brendon, but the elevator doors had already closed and started going up.
The elevator quickly ascended without anyone pressing any buttons along the way. Ranita felt extremely embarrassed.
Ding! The elevator door opened, and Ranita walked out first. She wanted to take another elevator down.
But just as she took two steps forward, Brendon grabbed her wrist. “Ranita, let’s talk.”
“Brendon, I don’t want to talk to you right now.”
“When then? You tell me when!”
“I don’t have time for this anytime,” Ranita said exasperatedly. “I don’t want anything to do with you.”
Brendon pursed his lips for a while before saying, “Are you still angry?”
Actually, Ranita wasn’t that angry; she just felt embarrassed because she drank too much and did something stupid.
She felt upset inside herself; so technically speaking – she was mad at herself.
“No! It’s getting late now; I need to go home,” Ranita pressed the button for another elevator while looking at Brendon coldly holding onto her hand tightly, “Brendon let go of my hand or else I’ll hate you.”
Her words made the atmosphere turn icy cold immediately.
After staring at each other for a while longer than necessary, Brendon finally released his grip on her wrist, “I’ll walk you home!”
“No need!”
“You’re a woman; it’s not safe for you alone late at night,” he paused before adding, “Plus drinking means no driving.”
Ranitia couldn’t decide what she wanted anymore.
Finally biting down on her teeth in frustration, she asked him bluntly, “If I say no, will you not let me leave?”
Brendon nodded silently in response.
Ranita fell silent and glared at Brendon with an angry expression. It seemed like she had caught on, and Brendon found Ranita incredibly cute even when she was mad.
“So, you agreed?”
“Aren’t you going yet?”
Ranita entered the elevator, standing in the corner to keep her distance from Brendon. “I suggest you don’t accompany me. I’m afraid my brother will have to beat you up later.”
Whenever Jedidiah was mentioned, it made Brendon angry.
But Brendon was perceptive. He tried to test the waters by shaking his arm towards Ranita and said in a low, pitiful voice, “Jedidiah may look weak, but he’s quite strong when it comes to fighting. Look, my arm is bruised.”
Brendon had a slim and lean physique, with a thin layer of muscle on his arms that didn’t appear bulky. He had naturally cold and pale skin, and the bruises on his arms stood out conspicuously.
Ranita glanced at them, feeling torn.
She should stand by Jedidiah, but she also worried about Brendon. She didn’t know if he had been hurt in other places.
“Well, you brought it upon yourself, didn’t you?” she said.
“But he’s trying to take you away from me. I can’t just let go,” Brendon replied. As he spoke, the air seemed to heat up, and Ranita felt her ears starting to get warm.
Ranita didn’t speak for the rest of the journey, and Brendon didn’t probe further.
The car stopped in an upscale residential area, and Brendon insisted on escorting her to the elevator, saying he wanted to make sure she got home safely.
“Brendon, do you want to know where I live?” Ranita looked at Brendon suspiciously, and to her surprise, the despicable man nodded in admission. “Well, I thought of coming to see you and Ayaan.”
Before she could finish her sentence, a cold voice suddenly interjected, “Brendon, haven’t you had enough?”
