The private room door closed, blocking out most of the noise. Jedidiah and Brendon sat at opposite ends, each holding a glass of high-proof whiskey that had just been delivered.
They sipped slowly, neither one breaking the silence.
After what seemed like an eternity, Jedidiah finally spoke up. “Brendon, I need to make this quick because I have to go see Ranita soon. Let’s not dwell on the past. You’re about to marry Miss Murphy and for that reason alone, you should stop pursuing Ranita.”
“It’s for your own good and hers,” he continued.
At the mention of Shannon, Brendon’s face darkened even further.
He knew his biggest obstacle in being with Ranita was Shannon. He knew he was at a disadvantage but he wouldn’t give up on her.
“I have feelings for Ranita and there’s Ayaan too,” Brendon said confidently. “I’ll handle things with the Murphy family and get back together with her.”
Jedidiah scoffed coldly in response, “She had Ayaan not because she still loved you but because she couldn’t bear losing a life so young. And as far as feelings go… you’ve been divorced for four years now – what kind of feelings could there be?”
After a pause, Jedidiah smirked and said, “Speaking of emotions, does Ranita’s feelings for me not surpass yours?”
Brendon felt a tightness in his chest.
Jedidiah won the first round.
“That’s all I have to say!” Jedidiah actually knew that this matter might not stay hidden for long. This was Steland, the stronghold of the Bowman family. Ordinary people might not understand the relationship between Ranita and the Bowman family, but some people in the circle knew. After all, secrets cannot be kept forever.
But the future could be dealt with later.
As long as Brendon left Steland, the Bowman family’s stronghold, things would be easier.
Ranita and George had both been drinking, so they hired a driver to take George to the hotel entrance. George asked her, “Would you like to come up for a drink?”
“Don’t worry, you’ve already rejected me once. I won’t do anything to you!” After a pause, George added, “If I dare to do anything, Brown will kill me!”
“I don’t drink alcohol, I’ll have coffee.”
Ranita didn’t go to George’s room; instead, she went to the hotel’s 24-hour coffee shop. As soon as they sat down, George gossiped, “The most handsome guy at the bar, was he your pursuer?”
“I don’t think Mr. Bowman liked him very much!” Luckily, they were speaking in a foreign language and speaking quickly, or else they would definitely attract attention from the neighboring table.
Ranita said irritably, “I came up here just to have coffee. I don’t want to discuss my gossip with you.”
“The night is long; chatting about gossip can pass the time!” George was actually quite curious. He felt like he had seen the man somewhere, but couldn’t remember where. “It’s fine to only talk about romance with such a handsome guy.”
Ranita was speechless.
“I feel much better now. I’m going back. Bye.” Ranita settled the bill and quickly escaped.
In reality, Ranita’s mood was far from good.
She wondered if they would start fighting after she left.
Ranita opened her contacts and stared at the phone number lying in her blacklist, but she hesitated and didn’t make the call… Should she call? It would seem like she cared about him. But if she didn’t call, she felt a bit worried.
Ding!
The elevator reached the first floor, and the doors opened with a sound.
Suddenly, Ranita’s pupils contracted, and she nervously swallowed. What a coincidence? Did Brendon also happen to stay at this hotel?
“How… did you…” Ranita hadn’t finished her sentence when the man stepped in, quickly pressed the close button, and blocked Ranita’s path.
