Chapter 476 Shouldn’t Expect

Book:A Successful Career After Divorce Published:2024-6-4

“Ranita, why are you in such a hurry to see Jedidiah?” Brendon’s voice was displeased and his face looked unhappy.
Ranita found it funny and sad at the same time. Who was he to be angry? Who was he to question her?
“So what if I am?” Ranita said in a low, angry tone. “What I do and who I see is my own business. Mr. Stuart, you’re too nosy.”
“Ranita…” Brendon didn’t finish his sentence before a choked-up voice interrupted him from the doorway, “Brendon, what are you doing?!”
Upon hearing this sweet voice, Ranita couldn’t help but feel nervous.
Ranita pushed Brendon aside and her gaze fell on Shannon. Shannon was sitting in a wheelchair, wearing loose patient clothing, with a bandage on her forehead. Her already pitiful face looked even more pale and pitiable.
Especially her reddened eyes, struggling to hold back tears. Who wouldn’t feel sorry for her?
“Ranita? Is it really you? So you’ve returned to the country!” Shannon bit her lip, looking heartbroken and devastated. “I apologize for interrupting you. I’ll leave now.”
Shannon hurriedly pushed the wheelchair, but the next moment, she stumbled and fell forward.
Naturally, Brendon couldn’t remain indifferent. He quickly went over to help Shannon up. “Are you alright?”
Shannon, suppressing her tears, said pitifully, “I’m fine! I was just too anxious. I’m sorry, Brendon.”
“It’s my fault for being clumsy!”
In recent years, Shannon’s emotions had been unstable, compounded by depression. She often got stuck in her own thoughts, and mishandling situations could lead to unfavorable consequences.
“Be more careful.” Brendon frowned, reaching out to support Shannon. Instantly, she leaned towards him, as if Brendon was carrying her into the wheelchair.
“You just woke up, why are you wandering around?”
“It wasn’t intentional! I woke up and didn’t see you, and I got scared, so I went out to look for you… I didn’t expect Ranita to be here too,” Shannon said, her voice choked up. She grabbed Brendon’s arm, her big eyes filled with mist as she said, “Brendon, can you please not get so close to Ranita… I know about your past relationship, but I’m not that generous. I’ll get jealous and angry…”
As she spoke, Shannon’s tears rolled down in big drops, wetting her collar in no time.
Ranita lowered her eyelashes, her gaze coldly fixed on Brendon. “Mr. Stuart, I need to rest. Could you please take Miss Murphy away?”
Brendon frowned and approached her, handing her a glass of water. “Wait for the nurse to come and give you another injection. As for the rest, we’ll talk later.”
Brendon took Shannon away.
Ranita squeezed the water glass, feeling a pang of bitterness as she let out a low laugh. What was she expecting? It wasn’t like she hadn’t tried before-whenever Shannon cried, she would get all of Brendon’s attention.
So, what was the point of acting like a fool?
Ranita set down the water glass and left the ward before the nurse arrived. On her way to Benedict’s room, she made a detour to the restroom, tidied up her clothes, applied some foundation and lipstick to make herself look a bit more refreshed.
Ranita walked slowly, constantly worrying and hesitating in her mind, afraid of not knowing how to talk to Benedict, and even more afraid that he would get angry and worsen his condition.
“Ranita?!,” in the midst of her hesitation, a familiar voice suddenly sounded from behind, causing her to pause.
“Ranita! Is that you?”
Accompanied by a heart-wrenching voice, Ranita gathered her courage and turned around, her eyes reddened as she spoke, “Mom…”
