Hurt, pitiful, and heart-wrenching.
“Brendon, I’ve been feeling guilty all these years. I lost the baby, and Ranita suddenly left. My heart is really in pain!” Shannon’s voice was filled with sorrow.
The past events couldn’t be explained now.
Ranita left, and there was no way to compare the paternity test Amiya gave him. The matter was left unresolved. Brendon felt annoyed and his voice was cold, “Shannon, stop crying.”
The man glanced at Ranita lying on the bed and pursed his lips. “I have something to attend to, so I’ll hang up. Let’s talk about it when I get back.”
Ranita didn’t really listen attentively. All she knew was that Brendon was talking to Shannon on the phone again…
She felt a bit sad.
It seemed like no matter where she went, she couldn’t escape from Shannon.
Footsteps approached, and the man sat down by the bed, reaching out to touch her forehead. “Did I disturb you? I’m sorry!”
Ranita opened one eye slightly and after a while, drowsily said, “You should go back, don’t stay here.”
“Miss Murphy… seems to really need you.”
She was used to being abandoned, and the pain would go away after a while.
“Ranita, you’re sick. Don’t talk and go to sleep.” Brendon’s voice carried a sense of urgency, as if he was not pleased.
“Aren’t you happy? What did I say wrong?” Ranita’s head felt dizzy, and after saying that, she fell asleep.
When she woke up.
Brendon was not there, and she struggled to get up and change her clothes.
Ranita remembered that she had to attend Ayaan’s kindergarten sports day. While clumsily changing her clothes, she wondered if she was in a condition to drive.
The cold medicine seemed to have a sedative component, so she shouldn’t be driving…
Ranita’s mind was a mess. When she was changing her pants, she lost her balance and fell to the ground!
“Ranita!” Just then, someone suddenly grabbed her from behind, and Ranita fell into his arms, both of them landing on the ground.
Ranita wasn’t hurt, but as she looked at Brendon pinned beneath her, her mind felt a bit hazy. “I thought you left?”
“I went to buy lunch for you!” Brendon said, using both hands to help her up. His arms were strong, like holding a child. “How did you get up?”
As he spoke, Brendon’s gaze fell on her fair and straight legs.
“Put your pants on first.”
Being reminded, Ranita finally remembered that she wasn’t wearing pants. She clumsily covered his eyes with her hands, her cheeks reddening with anger. “Don’t look!”
Ranita’s legs were beautiful, not too slim, straight but with a little bit of flesh. Brendon quite liked this trait.
“Close your eyes!” Ranita angrily shouted.
Brendon’s lips curved slightly, and he extended his hand to cover the back of her hand, his voice low. “I didn’t look! Do you need help?”
“No need!” Ranita sternly refused. “Close your eyes and turn around!”
Ranita removed her hand, only to find that Brendon not only didn’t close his eyes, but also lowered his gaze to her legs. This made her furious. “Brendon, close your eyes!”
Ranita reached out to cover his eyes, but she was too short. Not only did he grab her wrist, but he also pulled her into his arms.
The coat he was wearing still had some coldness to it, causing her to shiver lightly. But she felt her body heating up, and her ears were starting to burn.
Ranita struggled a few times, but found it futile, so she glared at Brendon with an indignant expression. “Brendon, let go!”
Brendon looked down at her, his dark eyes carrying an indescribable hint of danger…
