“Cynthia, why were you looking at me instead of the road while driving?” Brendon looked up and their eyes met in the rearview mirror.
Ranita looked away and pressed her lips together slightly. “I wasn’t looking at you! Don’t be so presumptuous!”
“Is that so? Why did you react like that then? I didn’t say anything!” Brendon paused, put away his files, and asked her, “Do you know about ET? I asked around and found out that you’re helping with the translation for this project.”
“I won’t interfere with your project, so there’s no need for me to know,” Ranita replied. Just as she finished speaking, Brown called.
Ranita put on her earphones to answer the phone.
“Cynthia, are you off work yet? Bring Elio out; I’ll treat you guys to dinner!”
“No need! I’m still busy!” Ranita continued speaking. “How’s it going over there? I hope everything can be completed within three days.”
“Don’t worry; I’m very proactive. If everything goes smoothly, it won’t be a problem within three days!” Brown assured her before shamelessly saying, “Then I’ll invite Judi out to play!”
“Whatever! Don’t drink too much; if it affects work, I’ll really get angry!” Ranita hung up seriously. She heard Brendon ask, “Ranita, you seem to have a lot of men around you!”
“You’re excellent; you should have many people around you too,” Ranita replied lightly.
Neither of them spoke again until they arrived at the restaurant where they unexpectedly ran into Brown as soon as they got off the car! He rushed over in one step and winked at Ranita, “Cynthia, so it was a date with a handsome guy!”
“Shut up! Go eat your food!” Ranita said impatiently.
“All right then! See ya later!” Brown grabbed onto Ranita’s hand briefly and kissed it before saying, “Good luck!”
Brendon’s face turned dark, and he handed a tissue to Ranita. “You got kissed by anyone, not afraid of getting dirty!”
What? What nonsense was this man spouting?
Ranita glared at Brendon in anger and said, “He’s not kissing you, so why are you getting mad?”
Brendon was infuriated and couldn’t hold back. He grabbed her wrist and trapped her by the car door, towering over her, gritting his teeth. “Why can’t I get mad? I am your…”
“Former husband, right?” Ranita pushed him away and coldly said, “Do you even know what the term ‘former husband’ means? If you don’t understand, I’ll give you a dictionary to look up the meaning!”
“Ranita!”
“Why are you being so aggressive?” Ranita met his gaze, her heart still uneasy, but she wasn’t alone anymore. She had someone to protect, so she couldn’t afford to be soft-hearted anymore.
“That day at the bar, you were drinking with him, weren’t you? I saw it, and he even had his arm around you! Ranita, you don’t have any standards when it comes to men!”
How could this woman be so heartless! He had been searching for her for four years, and now she was flirting with other men everywhere. She had become a mother, yet she neglected her child to go on dates at a bar…
Just thinking about it made him furious!
“So what? None of your business!” Ranita gritted her teeth and kicked Brendon’s shin. “Move aside!”
Her high-heeled shoe struck fast and accurately, and Brendon winced in pain, almost contorting.
Why was this woman so violent now? She used to be gentle, considerate, and generous!
“Ranita! Are you trying to cripple me?” Brendon hissed, his body leaning against Ranita’s, “If I become disabled, you’ll have to take care of me for the rest of your life! How heartless!”
Ranita wanted to push him away. What was this guy dreaming about? He expected her to take care of him for the rest of her life?
But seeing Brendon’s pained expression, she couldn’t help but soften.
