“Sit still!” Steve reached out and pulled Dylan closer, using a small spoon to feed Ranita water. “Drink some water before you speak.”
“Okay!” Ranita replied.
Ranita drank some water and ate some porridge.
“Ranita, you slept for three days and nights. You scared us to death!” Dylan said, his eyes red. It seemed like he was really frightened!
“Oh yeah, I haven’t told Eve yet! I’ll give her a call!” Dylan rushed out of the hospital room to make the call.
“Don’t mind him,” Steve smiled. “Are you feeling better?”
“I’m feeling better…” After pausing for a moment, Ranita asked, “How did I end up in the hospital… and who brought me here?”
Chris explained it all to her. Ranita found out that Chris had arrived just in time and took her to the hospital. As for how Chris knew where she was – it turned out that she accidentally dialed Chris’ number when she came out of the bathroom.
After Chris answered the call, he only heard some vague voices, and worried that something might have happened to her, he didn’t hang up. Later, he also asked a friend at the police station to locate her based on her phone signal.
“So that’s how it is… Thank you!” Ranita looked gratefully at Chris. “If it weren’t for you, things would have been terrible!”
“What exactly happened?” Chris inquired.
“… I…” Ranita glanced at Chris and Steve. She knew they wouldn’t speak without evidence, but she didn’t have any proof herself. She figured that even if she reported it to the police, it would be her word against Robert’s, and the police wouldn’t believe her.
Steve pushed up his glasses. “Is it true, Ranita? You can trust us!”
“I know!” Ranita sighed. “Just like the last time when I was forced to undergo amniocentesis, we had no evidence.”
“So even if I called the police, it’s just my word against his. Why would they believe me?”
Steve frowned, his voice low. “So, you’re just going to endure this? You don’t know… what you’ve been through when Chris brought you back.”
“Steve, don’t pressure her! Let her rest!”
A nurse came in to change the dressing. Chris led Steve outside, and Steve leaned against the wall. “Should we tell Brendon?”
Chris shook his head. “Ranita probably doesn’t want that.”
“What about the amniocentesis incident?” Chris asked again.
Steve sighed when talking about this matter. He briefly explained, “Amiya was really overboard! Fortunately, the gestational age was small; if it were a bit later, the child might not have survived.”
“Do we tell Ranita about Brendon’s engagement?”
“Don’t tell her! Let her recover properly!” After a pause, Chris added, “I’ll have someone investigate this incident.”
“If Ranita doesn’t say anything, how can you investigate?” Steve raised an eyebrow.
Chris cupped his chin. “When I arrived, I saw Robert and the bodyguards from Boulderland Mansion in the crowd. I’ll see if I can find anything from that angle.”
After Steve went back to the hospital, and Dylan went to pick up Eve, only Chris remained in the hospital room. He carefully gave Ranita some water. “Do you want to sleep more?”
At this point, Ranita could see clearly. Chris looked much haggard, his eyes bloodshot, probably from staying up late.
She felt genuinely moved in her heart.
Who would have thought that Chris could be so caring and attentive to her…
