Amiya saw Brendon defending Ranita, her face full of anger.
“What did I do to her? Why don’t you ask what she did to Shannon?! Didn’t you see that Shannon is still lying in the hospital bed?” Amiya said, pulling Ranita aside and glaring at her. “The person who needs comforting right now is Shannon!”
When Brendon entered the room, Shannon’s eyes lit up with joy. She looked at him with soft eyes and said, “Brendon, I’m okay… it was my fault for falling down the stairs. Don’t blame Ranita.”
“It’s my fault for being clumsy and always getting hurt. Thank you for rushing back.”
Shannon looked fragile as she spoke softly with a sad expression on her face.
She already had a delicate appearance, but pretending to be even more fragile would make even Brendon’s cold heart unable to resist. He looked at Shannon then turned his gaze towards Ranita and asked through pursed lips, “Ranita… is it really your fault that Shannon got hurt?”
Brendon received news while he was on the plane and only found out when he landed that Shannon had been injured in the hospital so he rushed over.
“It has nothing to do with me!”
“Ranita, how shameless can you be?” Amiya sneered coldly as she threw her phone towards Brendon. “Take a look yourself!”
“I didn’t push Shannon; she kept bothering me until she fell down herself! Brendon…” Ranita’s heart felt twisted painfully as she tried explaining herself.
After watching the video once again, Brendon gritted his teeth slightly before asking Ranita, “Ranita… how do you explain this video?”
In the end though, Brendon still didn’t believe her.
Ranita thought that there was no more pain left in her heart but it felt like it was being twisted and crushed causing even breathing became painful.
“Brendon, step aside!” Amiya commanded fiercely. “This woman has maliciously harmed Shannon; I will not let go of this easily! But before we deal with anything else we must first get rid of this child inside of her!”
“So as not to bring shame upon yourself!”
Another bombshell dropped, and Brendon wearily rubbed his forehead. “Mom, I’ve already said this is between me and Ranita. You don’t need to get involved.”
“How can I not get involved? Look at what Ranita has done!” Amiya, wanting to defend Ranita, handed a test report to Brendon with exhaustion.
“This child must not be kept!” The large words on the paternity test report left Brendon feeling dazed. As he flipped to the end, he was stunned to find, at the bottom, the unequivocal statement of non-biological relation.
Ranita’s eyes widened slightly. “It’s impossible! Brendon! This can’t be true!”
“Ranita, stop acting here! The child in your belly is not Brendon’s at all…” Amiya’s words were cut off as Brendon, like a gust of wind, grabbed her hand and stormed out of the hospital room.
The door to the fire escape was forcefully pushed open.
Ranita’s back collided with the wall, dust scattering and entering her nose, bringing a damp, dusty scent. Unconcerned about these trivial matters, she stared at Brendon. However, her tone had changed.
She said, “Brendon, do you believe me?”
Brendon wanted to believe Ranita, but the report was right there in his hand. Every time he thought that Ranita had betrayed him, a raging fire seemed to ignite at the tip of his heart. The anger burned fiercely.
“So how do you explain this paternity test?” The man gritted his teeth, his dark eyes staring at her like an enraged, irrational beast. His eyes were bloodshot, and he demanded angrily, “Whose child is this?”
