The call was long and soft.
Ranita heard Brendon’s voice in her sleep and thought she was dreaming.
“Ranita… are you in pain?”
In her dream, Brendon held her hand and asked, his voice low and hoarse. She struggled to open her eyes, catching a glimpse of a familiar figure.
He was tall, sitting on a stool like a giant with long legs that seemed unsure where to go. His head hung low as he looked downcast.
Ranita wanted to reach out but feared disturbing him. Brendon was stingy and immature; what if he ran away?
She perked up her ears, listening to the deep voice continue speaking, “I didn’t know my mother did something so outrageous to you.”
“I apologize on behalf of her.” After pausing for a moment, Brendon chuckled softly with helplessness in his laughter, “Also… I shouldn’t have gotten angry at you.”
“But when I saw Steve hugging you, I got really mad! Ranita… Ranita… You’re such a bad woman…” The man gripped onto Ranita’s hand tightly while pinching her fingers painfully.
However, Ranita felt confused. Did Brendon just call her bad? And did he get angry because Steve hugged her?
What did Brendon mean?
She wanted desperately to open up her eyes and ask him but found herself unable to speak when she tried moving lips. She realized that she must be dreaming; even if she spoke up now, he wouldn’t hear it anyway…
But still, Ranita really wanted answers from him about why he called her a bad woman!
No one loved Brendon more than she did in this world…
Ranita felt a bit annoyed. She wanted to reach out and pat him, at least don’t insult her in front of her face!
Her hand was held tightly, and the fingertips conveyed a warm touch. It felt very real.
Ranita’s heart was soft, as if flowing through a warm stream, and she felt extremely satisfied.
She and Brendon had always been more indifferent than warm, so Ranita’s heart was unusually soft. If this dream was destined to end, at least for now, she hoped not to wake up.
“Ranita,” He said suddenly after moments of silence passed between them both, “Do you know… actually…”
Actually what? Ranita waited for a long time without hearing his voice, growing increasingly anxious.
However, Brendon remained silent. He stood up, his steps moving towards her, and the shadows enveloped him as he slowly approached her. The breath between them was warm.
His hand landed on her cheek. “You need to eat well,” he said in a deep voice.
Ranita’s heart skipped a beat as she tried to grab his shirt with her fingers, but they were too weak and soft to exert any force.
Suddenly, a soft kiss fell on her lips.
Her heart boiled like water being poured onto hot coals.
Even though it was just a dream, the kiss felt so real that it made her spine tingle and sent waves of heat rushing through her brain, making it buzz loudly.
“Crack!”
The figure gradually moved away from the blurry doorway until it disappeared from Ranita’s consciousness as she continued sleeping.
She didn’t know how long had passed when she suddenly woke up.
“Brendon…” She scanned the room anxiously but found nothing except for darkness and emptiness around her bed.
A sense of loss washed over her as she realized that everything was just a dream. She clutched at the thin blanket with tears in eyes and bitter smile on lips.
Shannon had suffered miscarriage; this was exactly when he should have been there for support instead of saying those nonsensical things or even kissing her…
Ranita curled up by the bedside, blushing furiously while unable to fall back asleep.
