Shannon was a soft-hearted person who loved to be close to others, but she was also considerate and understanding in certain ways.
Brendon pursed his lips, feeling even more guilty.
“Brendon, I’ll rest well. You can go do your thing!” Shannon said, but her hand didn’t let go and her eyes were misty as she looked at Brendon.
She seemed to be both resisting and welcoming him at the same time. Her expression conveyed this perfectly.
Brendon hesitated for a moment.
Shannon had just undergone surgery and was emotionally vulnerable. She needed someone by her side now more than ever.
But there was Ranita…
Brendon gently pushed Shannon’s hand away and lowered his head. “Shannon, I need to go back to Boulderland Mansion for a bit. I’ve arranged for a caregiver who will take good care of you tonight.”
He hurriedly left for Boulderland Mansion as soon as he finished speaking.
As soon as he left, Virginia arrived on the scene.
“Virginia… why are you here?” Shannon called out softly, though she couldn’t help feeling slightly afraid of Virginia inside her heart.
Although Shannon referred to Virginia as her cousin, they had grown up together since childhood; her father treated Virginia like his own daughter too. However, Virginia had always been more assertive and independent; she went out on her own after graduating from college.
“I came to see you! Is everything okay?” Virginia smiled before asking, “Where’s Brendon? He’s not here?”
“He… had something urgent come up at Boulderland Mansion.” In fact, Shannon feared that Brendon hadn’t gone back there but instead went looking for Ranita; she knew about the amniocentesis incident long ago.
“Really? You just miscarried; it should be considered an important matter yet he doesn’t stay with you…” After pausing briefly, Virginia pursed her lips, “Shannon, you really have no choice but him?”
Shannon bit down on her lip, “Virginia… you know that I’ve liked him since we were young! If Wyatt hadn’t suddenly demanded that he marry Ranita three years ago, I would have been his wife long ago!”
“Now that he’s divorced from Ranita, I can openly be with him!”
Virginia frowned, “Didn’t you say earlier that they haven’t finalized their divorce proceedings yet?”
“It’s already done!” Shannon grabbed onto Virginia’s hand, sounding coquettish, “So please don’t tell my parents anything else about this. Is it okay?”
“And don’t tell them about my miscarriage either or else they might get angry with Brendon!”
Virginia’s face turned cold. “You really only have Brendon in your heart, don’t you?”
“Of course! I’ve always liked Brendon!” Shannon had never been denied anything she wanted, but she hit a wall with Brendon.
She couldn’t swallow this bitter pill.
For years, she had hoped Wyatt would die soon so she could come back and reclaim Brendon.
“Virginia, will you promise me?”
Virginia knew that Brendon was filing for divorce and wasn’t as opposed to the idea anymore. She said, “If I told your parents, they would have known already. You can’t just act cute.”
“I helped you keep this secret this time. And Carlee’s too. Come home after you recover! You dad wants to see you.”
Upon hearing this news, Shannon became even happier. “Really? My dad won’t be angry?”
“If he’s angry, are you not going home? Look at yourself! You’re not even coming back and staying with the Stuart family instead. How can your dad not be angry?”
Shannon held Virginia’s hand happily.
Brendon rushed into Boulderland Mansion without paying attention to how late it was already and went straight to Amiya, “Mom, did you go find Ranita?”
Amiya saw his bad attitude in his tone of voice and her eyes were filled with anger, “Brendon, is that how you talk to your mother?”
