“Not polite? Are you going to fight me for Ranita?” Brendon’s eyes were bloodshot, gritting his teeth. “Ranita, come with me.”
“I won’t! I want to go with Dr. Pearson,” Ranita refused again. “There’s nothing left between us.”
“Please don’t bother me anymore!” Ranita tightly grabbed Steve’s arm, her heart already in pieces.
As the anesthesia dizziness gradually faded away, her lower abdomen began to ache. “Dr. Pearson, let’s go quickly!”
“Ranita!” Brendon roared.
“Brendon, that’s enough!” Steve pushed Brendon aside and stood in front of Ranita. “If she doesn’t want to go with you, don’t force her!”
This protective stance only pierced Brendon’s heart even more.
Steve helped Ranita into the car and fastened her seatbelt while glancing at Brendon out of the corner of his eye. He noticed that Brendon was still staring at them and spoke up for Ranita, “Brendon, maybe you should ask Mrs. Stuart what she did to Ranita!”
The car hurriedly drove away.
Brendon kicked the nearby tire in anger and held back his rage.
At this moment, Shannon called him on the phone.
“Shannon, I’ll be back soon.” Brendon hung up the phone and returned to the hospital room looking like he had just walked out of an ice cave; he was so cold it could scare people.
“Brendon, what happened?” Shannon bit her lips as they turned pale from worry about him and if it upset him earlier.
“It has nothing to do with you,” said Brendon through pursed lips.
“Really?” Shannon paused before asking again, “Where did you just go?”
Brendon pursed his lips; undoubtedly, he had just seen Steve carrying the weakened Ranita and leaving. He hurried to catch up, still pondering over what Steve had said.
He was contemplating what Amiya might have done to Ranita. Brendon stood up and said, “Shannon, you rest well. I’ll make a quick trip to Boulderland Mansion.”
“But… didn’t you promise to stay with me?” Shannon’s face was pale, and she still had an IV drip in her hand. Her eyes were red, and she looked very pitiful.
Shannon had just lost a child. Although they had decided not to keep the baby, Brendon couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of guilt at the unexpected outcome.
“I have something important to attend to. Sorry, Shannon!” Brendon paused, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he continued in a hoarse voice. “Shannon, Ranita didn’t mean it. Don’t blame her.”
A flash of malice crossed Shannon’s eyes.
After everything that had happened, Brendon was still thinking about Ranita? He was still defending her? Was he unable to forget that bitch?!
Shannon’s mind was in turmoil.
“Brendon… I won’t blame Ranita! It was all just a misunderstanding. I wanted to bring her some fruit when she got out of the hospital but she misunderstood and thought I wanted to push her. She pushed me away instinctively and it was my own fault for not being steady on my feet and falling.”
Shannon’s voice softened, becoming slightly husky and even more tender than usual, enough to make one feel sorry for her.
Breathless from exertion, Shannon took a deep breath before reaching out and grabbing Brendon’s hand while looking up at him with innocent eyes. “And besides,” she said softly, “I had already decided not to keep the baby anyway; this is just an earlier time frame. You don’t need to apologize.”
“And as for Ranita,” she added after a momentary pause, “once I’m feeling better, I’ll talk with her myself so we can clear up this misunderstanding.”
