The call was from Gwen Fox, Yolanda Taylor saw the caller ID and her face instantly lightened, “Hello?”
“Where are you, I’ll come over to pick you up for dinner.”
“No, I’m with a friend.”
“Which friend?”
“You don’t know.”
After saying that, she just hung up the phone.
Just after hanging up, Yolanda Taylor heard Heather ask herself, “Gwen Fox?”
“Uh-huh.”
She looked down at her phone, the coldness on her face fading a little as she smiled again.
“You didn’t really mean to marry Gwen Fox, did you?”
There was a red light in front of her, Heather stubbed out her cigarette, “Don’t mind if I do, I’m not trying to give you a hard time, I don’t know what Gwen Fox used, but I can see that you did want to marry Primo Jones before.”
With that, she paused, “Only wanting and loving are another matter.”
Yolanda Taylor wasn’t surprised that Heather had guessed it; these things were meant to be seen from the sidelines, and while those outside the circle knew half of what was going on, those inside the circle actually saw it mostly clearly.
“He forced me to marry.”
Yolanda Taylor looked out the car window as she said this.
Borden City was all flashing neon lights at night, and Yolanda Taylor was dazzled by the sight.
Heather inclined her head to look at her, “You might want to think about what I just said, the bidding on that land hasn’t officially started yet. Ham Rodriguez, that asshole of a man, has always been cocky about me, and he probably wouldn’t expect me to stab him in the back, so I can get completely accurate information. ” Yolanda Taylor couldn’t help but frown a little at her words, “Haven’t you thought about leaving here?”
“Leave?”
Heather didn’t know what came to mind and all of a sudden smiled, “I’ve thought about it, but I can’t leave.”
Everyone knew her mom was dead, but she was the only one who knew that Ham Rodriguez had her mom.
It was her mom, how could she stand by and watch her get killed by Ham Rodriguez?
Heather blinked at the thought, “Enough about that, what do you want to eat tonight?”
Yolanda Taylor looked at Heather and had to admire how quickly her emotions came and went, “I’d like fondue.”
“Such a coincidence, I haven’t had it in a while either.”
The two had obviously only met twice, but a few moments of sympathy were born out of some inexplicably similar experiences.
Yolanda Taylor hadn’t been as relaxed as she was today in a long time, and after coming back to Borden City, Gwen Fox was like a nightmare she couldn’t escape or break free from.
It was a little after eight or nine when the two finished dinner and Yolanda Taylor stood in the doorway of the restaurant, looking at Heather who was checking out.
“Well, I’ll take you back.”
“I don’t really want to go back.”
Yolanda Taylor looked at her, not gamely, just stating the fact.
Heather was stunned for a moment and couldn’t help but smile when she responded, “That’s not so simple! You don’t want to go back, how about I take you somewhere fun?”
“Where?”
“Walk walk walk!”
“Good.”
She had been a good student since she was a child, and because Petra was a gentle and loving mother, her character had been raised to be very gentle, and the only thorn in her side had all been toward Gwen Fox.
This is her first time to come to a place like a bar, the noise makes her not very accustomed to, Heather’s face high and cold with her through the crowd, on the second floor of the VIP room card seat.
It wasn’t a completely enclosed space, and one side had a commanding view of the crowd on the first floor.
At this time the music in the bar was deafening, the pole dance show on the stage was hot and passionate, and the people under the stage were also in high spirits.
Heather poured two glasses of red wine and handed her one, then walked over to that open railing and leaned against it, looking back at her, “Come over here and I’ll show you something fun.”
Yolanda Taylor walked over with her wine and the two of them leaned against the bar.
Heather raised her hand and pointed at the bar, “Look at that man, the svelte clean looking one.” “Uh-huh.”
Yolanda Taylor answered.
“Just wait!”
Heather said and soon there was one more woman at that bar, only to see the man start talking to the woman.
On the surface the two didn’t seem to be doing much, but they were high up and the man’s movements underneath were clear.
Heather pursed her lips as she spoke, “That man sits there at the bar every night hunting for women, but he has a girlfriend, over there, that one, the one in the white camisole!”
Heather pointed to the other side of the booth and Yolanda Taylor quickly saw a woman in a white camisole sitting on the man’s lap.
She frowned a little as Heather tilted her head back and drained her glass of red wine, turning back and pouring another before saying, “Isn’t that ridiculous? That woman hadn’t actually been to the bar before, then she made a lot of jokes here at the bar to find the guy, then I don’t know what happened, she may or may not have thought about it, hell knows, but anyway, the two of them come over every night to hunt for sex together now.”
Heather said, taking another drink, “I hear they’re planning on getting married this year.”
Yolanda Taylor heard such a ridiculous thing for the first time, Heather looked at her for a while and laughed a little, “I’m telling you, it’s really a good place, you’ll see obsessed men and women here, you’ll see hunting men and women, all the different kinds of life, a small bar you take in. After seeing more, you feel that you are actually not the worst one.”
She said, and drank the remaining half of her drink.
Heather was a little curious when she saw that she was holding her drink and just not drinking, “You can’t hold your liquor?”
Yolanda Taylor nodded, “Well, it’s easy to get drunk.”
“That’s a good thing, a drunk is a good thing. Unlike me, I’m too good a drinker to get drunk any way.”
Heather said, clinking her glass, “Go ahead and drink, it’s fine, I’ll watch you when you’re drunk, no one will touch a cold hair on your head.” She said and murmured, “It’s not hard when you’re drunk.”
Yolanda Taylor looked at Heather and couldn’t help but frown, “Are you drunk?”
“Nope.”
She said, sitting herself back down, “I’m telling you, my first drink was fifty proof whiskey, and I’m still sober after a whole bottle of whiskey, so how can this amount of proof get me drunk so easily.”
Yolanda Taylor looked down at the stage, the two men and women on the bar were already kissing passionately.
She inclined her head and looked to the other side, where the white camisole woman was also kissing someone oblivious.
She didn’t know if Heather was telling the truth or not, but being here on the second floor, she did have a good view of a lot of the ugliness on the first floor.
“Yolanda Taylor was startled when she turned around to find Heather drinking a bottle of wine.
She was shocked, “Heather, you’re going to get drunk, if you do that.”
“Can’t get drunk.”
She called in two more bottles of red wine, Heather wasn’t boozing anymore, savoring it, looking at her and suddenly asking, “Did you really used to be Gwen Fox’s lover?”
