Chapter 95: It’s Like Back Then

Book:Welcome To My Life Published:2024-6-3

After almost four years of not seeing each other, and having once been friends to this day, Yolanda Taylor was at a loss for words for a moment.
“How are you doing, Yolanda?” It was Beth Garcia who spoke first.
Yolanda Taylor looked at her and smiled a little, “I’m fine, thanks.”
After the simple pleasantries, both were a little unsure of what to say.
Although Beth Garcia’s character was lively, but after four years, seeing Yolanda Taylor again, I don’t know if it was her illusion, Yolanda Taylor was like a different person.
The two of them were silent for a while, this time it was Yolanda Taylor who opened her mouth first: “I heard that you and Jerome Perot got married, congratulations.”
She said, and took out a box from her bag, “Sorry, I lost my memory before, I was over at Oman City when you got married, this is my wedding gift to make up for it.”
Yolanda Taylor’s words brought the strangeness between the two people much closer, Beth Garcia heard her say that she also prepared a wedding gift, her face immediately filled with a smile, “Ah, we’ve been married for more than two years …”
Despite saying that, she didn’t refuse Yolanda Taylor’s gift.
Yolanda Taylor smiled a little and handed the box to her eyes, “Open it.”
Beth Garcia was also curious about what Yolanda Taylor had gotten herself, and she opened the box to find that inside was actually a small golden pig the size of her palm.
Incredulously, she picked up the gold pig and weighed it at over two pounds.
“Like it? I remember once when we had dinner, you said that when you got married, you wanted people to give gifts that were a little more substantial, and if you didn’t want to give cash, you’d get a full-gold gold pig for you, after all, gold retains its value.”
Beth Garcia’s own family is not bad, but her family is a reorganized family, as the saying goes, when you have a stepmother, you have a stepfather, and this is not an overstatement when it comes to Beth Garcia’s father.
Earlier in her life, Beth Garcia didn’t live like the daughter of a rich family, so much so that when she graduated, all she could think about was making money.
She loved money and never hid the fact that she loved it.
When Yolanda Taylor and Gwen Fox were together, the first time they met, Beth Garcia had a private lunch with her that cost several thousand dollars.
Then one time Beth Garcia somehow talked to her about wedding gifts, and Yolanda Taylor made a note of it.
Beth Garcia didn’t realize that Yolanda Taylor would remember so clearly what she had said four or five years ago.
She was not only touched by the fact that the gift was very much to her liking, but she was also touched by Yolanda Taylor’s thoughtfulness back then.
She couldn’t help but remember that when she and Gwen Fox were together, every time they went out to eat, Yolanda Taylor would quietly move away from anything that Gwen Fox didn’t like to eat.
These small details, not to mention her, even Jerome Perot, a straight man have noticed, there are many other very warm details, not to mention, that’s why they felt that Gwen Fox if not with Yolanda Taylor to the end, they can not imagine, who else will be better than Yolanda Taylor.
But no one expected that Gwen Fox would suddenly act like she was crazy and get engaged to Xenia Davis, and no one could persuade her.
And now that Yolanda Taylor and Primo Jones are together, Beth Garcia feels that this is probably Gwen Fox’s retribution.
Beth Garcia asked her out for nothing really, but simply wanted to care about Yolanda Taylor.
And Yolanda Taylor is also the memory of the year Beth Garcia to their own help, she has always been like this, whoever is good to her, she will be good to who; whoever is not good to her, she will return.
She had always been like that, only planting her heel here with Gwen Fox, and after she could, she wouldn’t even plant it again.
“Yolanda, you really are-”
Beth Garcia was genuinely touched, tears on the verge of falling from her eyes.
Yolanda Taylor laughed a little and drew tissues and handed them to her, “I gave you a gift because I wanted you to be happy, not because I wanted you to cry. If you go back later with red eyes, Jerome Perot is going to come after me.”
Beth Garcia laughed at her comment, “Hey, don’t mention him! He’s so straight, he can’t tell if I’ve been crying or not!”
Yolanda Taylor looked down and stirred the coffee in front of her, “Jerome Perot was nice to you.”
Beth Garcia wanted to retort, but thought of many things and finally just laughed in embarrassment, “Yolanda you’re laughing at me now!”
She said, pausing, a little hesitant, “Is President Jones good to you?”
Yolanda Taylor was much more generous than Beth Garcia’s caution, “He’s been good to me.”
She said, paused, and added, “His family is good, too.”
That last sentence knocked all the words that Beth Garcia had been hesitating to say back into her stomach.
Yolanda Taylor had already let go, so why should they, the bystanders, give her a hard time.
Beth Garcia is a live streamer, especially good at talking, after the rust is gone, she colorfully told many interesting stories about Borden City and their circle in the past few years.
Yolanda Taylor quietly listened, occasionally responding to a sentence or two.
Time passed half of the afternoon without realizing it, Beth Garcia had to go back to the Perot family with Jerome Perot for dinner tonight, Jerome Perot had already sent several messages to urge her, she could only end the chat reluctantly: “Yolanda, I have to go back to the Perot family for dinner, let’s change the time. Perot family side for dinner, let’s make a date another day.”
“Okay.”
Yolanda Taylor took her bag and was about to check out, but Beth Garcia was already one step ahead of her, “You gave me such a big gift, let me pay for this small amount.”
Yolanda Taylor smiled, collected her purse, and the two of them went out of the cafe one after the other.
It hadn’t gotten dark that fast in September, and Borden City was still bright at five o’clock.
Beth Garcia was answering the phone when she saw Xenia Davis and Gwen Fox.
Jerome Perot had arrived and asked which door she was at.
Yolanda Taylor only looked away and withdrew her eyes, at which point Beth Garcia hung up the phone as well.
But as soon as she looked up, she saw the two men sitting by the Starbucks window.
She blushed and subconsciously looked at Yolanda Taylor.
Yolanda Taylor was standing there with a light smile on her face, and when she saw her looking over, she arched her eyebrows, “What’s wrong?” The wind blew over and she lifted a hand to ruffle her hair.
Beth Garcia thought back to when she and Jerome Perot had gone to carry Gwen Fox’s gift to Yolanda Taylor four years ago, and she seemed to be looking at them the same way.
Suddenly, she felt a little bad for Yolanda Taylor. At that moment, Jerome Perot’s car drove by, honking his horn on the side of the road, so Beth Garcia had to stop, “Yolanda, I’m going to go first, remember to give me a message when you get home!”
“Okay.”
She smiled a little and watched Beth Garcia walk to her car as it drove away, Yolanda Taylor inclined her head again to look at the two people sitting by the Starbucks window.
Xenia Davis was looking at her with her chin in her hand, and when she turned her head to look over, Xenia Davis smiled back at her.
Yolanda Taylor smiled back, then gave a faint nod before lifting the hem of her skirt over the low bar in front of her and walking to the curb.
It was all as if it were then.
