Javier looked in Diana’s direction and said:
-Mom, the women in the circle usually act with good calculations. Diana is only upset because she is the adopted daughter, so she protects herself this way.
When Javier’s mother heard her son speak on Diana’s behalf, she showed a hateful expression.
-I think you are already obsessed with that woman. Are you blind?
Javier pursed his lips and looked at his mother.
-Mom, I’m not blind, I just like her. Didn’t you tell me before that I should be a brave man? Why do you want me to be a coward right now?
Javier’s mother was stunned by his words. She didn’t know how to reply for a moment, her chest rose and fell in anger and her cheeks were flushed.
After a long moment, she spoke:
-Javier, you say all this from your point of view, but I also have my opinion. I just want you to marry a better girl and have a better life in the future, I can’t stand being cheated on.
When Javier’s mother finished, she sighed fiercely and turned her head in Diana’s direction.
-I care about Diana’s status as an adopted daughter, but what bothers me most is her character. Only women understand other women better, men are stubborn and easily fooled by superficial things.
-Mom, how can that be possible! -Javier shook his head- Diana has never lied to me.
Javier’s mother scoffed.
-You haven’t been in love since you were a child and you’re very clumsy in this area, so clearly you don’t know women’s tactics. As long as a woman doesn’t want you to know, she can pretend in front of you for the rest of her life. Let me ask you, did Diana ever lose her temper in front of you?
Hearing those words, Javier froze and unconsciously shook his head.
Diana was exceptionally kind and gentle, and in the year they had been together, she had never really lost her temper in front of him.
-Either she doesn’t love you, or she’s repressing her true nature. All you see is what she pretends to be. If she really liked you, even the fanciest girl wouldn’t be so calm in the presence of someone she likes,” he said and then pointed in Albina’s other direction. Look how Albina and Umberto are getting along.
Javier looked in the direction she was pointing just in time to see Albina cocking her head and talking to Umberto.
When she spoke, her eyes sparkled and she had a sweet smile. Not knowing what Umberto had whispered in her ear, she looked at him in embarrassment and smacked his arm, then spoke a series of words to him.
The sequence of actions was very natural to watch and even a stranger like him found it very sweet.
Javier’s mother looked at the unconscious envy welling up in his eyes and sighed.
-Javier, has Diana ever treated you like this? What were you like when you were together? Compare.
Javier’s heart sank to the bottom.
Diana used to smile the same way in front of him, pampering herself as if she were following a routine. At first, he didn’t think anything about it, except that maybe Diana was like that by nature, but having the contrast had given him a clearer perception.
Javier unconsciously glanced in Diana’s direction.
She was leaning against Bianca, with the same expression on her face and the same gestures as when she was with him.
Suddenly, he felt a little uncomfortable inside.
Seeing that he had achieved his goal, Javier’s mother smiled.
-Javier, since you already have a plan in mind, then I will find an opportunity to talk to the Espina family and cancel your marriage….
Before she could finish the sentence, Javier shook his head.
-No.
-You! -Javier’s mother became exasperated and glared at him.
Javier looked at his mother and disobeyed her so seriously for the first time:
-As long as Diana does not make a mistake of principle, I will not cancel the marriage. She is poor enough as an adopted daughter, and if I cancel the marriage, no one will dare to marry her. We’d hurt her for life…. In short, I don’t agree.
Javier’s mother had always known that her son had a straight character, he was usually especially well-behaved and understanding in front of her, but now he was being very disobedient. She regretted raising him with that character.
-You’re really pissing me off,” Javier’s mother snapped.
Javier gave her a sullen look and left immediately on the pretext that he had something to tell a friend.
Although his mother had made it clear that Diana didn’t love him that much, he still had a glimmer of hope in his heart.
He thought that when the party was over, he would go to Diana and tell her how he felt and apologize for not helping her at the time, while promising not to back out of the marriage. However, the whole party continued and Diana ignored him, she even seemed very angry with him.
Javier did not manage to stay alone with Diana and was forcibly dragged away by his mother.
After dismissing the guests, Diana breathed a sigh of relief and discreetly looked for Doria among the servants.
She had just been at Bianca’s side at the party and no one would have mentioned about her identity, but she still didn’t know the story, so she would have to ask Doria.
-Doria, what happened at the party? Who exposed my identity as an adopted daughter? Was it Albina? Or Hector? -Diana said through gritted teeth.
Doria shook her head.
-Neither of them.
Diana was a bit taken aback by these words.
-Huh? How is that possible? Who else could it be? My parents? Umberto? One of the Romero family?
“Basically, there’s no one else but them.”
Doria’s expression seemed a bit complicated.
-It was Adrian.
Diana froze when Doria pronounced those words, her eyes were so wide that she couldn’t control the expression on her face and her whole body was in shock.
-You’re kidding, how could it be Adrian?!
She couldn’t believe it.
