The night was already glaring, so Bethany walked into her house and thinking about her lover’s handsome face and the calmness that was going to follow after her mother’s health will be diagnosed again as to be certain that she was not suffering from heart disease, a sweet smile cropped up around the sleeves of her lips and she had only Duke to thank for that as he did not let her despicable character, stop him from being nice to her mother even though she had slurred his efforts of being a good boss and friend to her.
“You are here and I have been looking for you in the living room”, Bethany spoke out as she went beside her friend on the bed but with a disgusting look, Eva told her not to be a hypocrite. Confused by her friend’s words, Bethany asked what the matter was but Eva kept an angry face towards her.
” What is the matter now Eva, what wring have I done to you?”, she asked as she followed her everywhere in the room wanting to know why she had unexpectedly transformed.
“I saw you outside and when I approached you, I overheard your conversation with Henry and you were begging him on my behalf”, Eva spotted it out not being able to keep it on her chest anymore. Raising a question to Bethany why she had to do that to her, she walked back to the bed and sat down feeling all angry at the situation.
Her eyes giving way for tears as they fell out of them, Eva inquired in wonder whether she had become so weak and loveless that her friend was standing outside begging a man to talk to her.
Bethany standing in one corner of another room felt bad for Eva In her painful state but she could not say anything about Henry’s plans as it was going to ruin his surprise for her. Approaching Eva in an attempt to console her, Bethany muttered slowly in the best way possible as she could not bear to see her go through so much discomfort especially about something that she was not fully aware of.
” I am a sorry friend for the misunderstanding and I can assure you that it is not what you think. All that I wanted was to make you glad and not to see you in this state you know that right?”, she asked taking her friend into her arms from behind.
Eva could not be mad at Bethany forever hence, with a smile on her face she held her hand that was wrapped around her chest as it felt so good having her understand what she was going through at that moment.
“Why will he treat me like this Betty, I really loved him and I still do”, Eva spoke out to her friend as tears ran down her eyes. Bethany consoled her and told her not to worry about a thing as she had everything under control, she whispered in her ears something that made Eva’s cheek turn red.
“Are you serious?”, she asked Bethany all glad, and Bethany confirmed to her that she was very serious with what she was saying, Eva stood up on her feet, asking Bethany what she was going to put on as she need to stand out from the crowd at the restaurant and Bethany responding to her saying that she could take whatever dress she wanted from the wardrobe, the atmosphere had just changed from sadness to happiness just as she liked it to be.
“Thank you Betty”, Eva said hugging her friend and her lips letting out a very slim smile, Bethany told her to be careful in order not to pass not as she had not completely recovered from the stress that she went through.
Feeling bad without herself, Bethany could not find the words to describe what she had just done, and not being too happy with the situation, she excused herself to go to the living room as she needed to discuss something with her mom. Telling Eva to give her some minutes as she was going to be right back, her gaze moved to the door immediately, and her body followed.
Eva sat in the room, happy and thankful to her friend for having thought about her situation and she promised herself that she was going to work even harder just to give her sisters the comfort that they deserve. Thinking back to her sweet and tender relationship that had come to an end even before it had earned the chance to begin, all she could do was to pray and wish Henry the best in life and to find that one lady that will make him happy in every sense of a union especially standard wise.
The stressful day had come to an end with the different forms of problem that it came out with, but Bethany was glad because, in the end, If it all, some people were blessed to smile while others had to wait for their turn to be stroke with happiness.
Her mother had hung around in her room all evening from the moment she had entered the house. She was certainly not able to make out the puzzle of her life while making an effort to wake up from the nightmare. Her heart was heavy and she could not find some sleep as well.
Standing outside her room, Bethany did not want to disturb her from her thoughts she felt that she needed some space to be able to digest everything that she had learned earlier that day.
” Tomorrow everything will be settled mom and if Duke is the one who is right, then I will be forever indebted to him for taking you to his doctor for the preparation of a heart transplant for you”, her words came out with so much emotion but at the same time, the pain was felt highly just from her peeks.
The morning sun could be seen from the mountains and the birds singing from the top of the trees, giving a soothing feeling in the morning. Bethany was awake that morning very early as she could not find some sleep throughout the night. Stepping out of the bed, she turned her head looking at Eva who was still asleep on her bed, and Little Glen who was sleeping in the middle of the bed.
Her eyes were covered with so much care as she pulled the blanket on them while stretching her body to let her bones crack out. She felt good after each time she stretched her body and it was a must-do for her if not her bones were going to ache for some time.
Walking into her bathroom, she crushed her teeth rapidly while washing her face with some cold water in order not to get tempted in going back to sleep. The day looked promising but she could not certify if it was going to be one for her as she had her plans at the back of her head.
Done from the bathroom, she left from there as she walked back into her room and headed for the wardrobe. Taking a look at Eva and letting out a smile, Bethany thought to herself how happy she was going to be after finding out about the surprise Henry has for her and that was all that mattered to me at that moment, for her friend to be happy with the one she loves.
Her heart was disturbed and her face turned sad at the thought of what was going to happen that day but being prepared for the worst, Bethany had her plans. Her hands went inside her wardrobe and taking out her pair of jeans and white sneakers which were arranged under her wardrobe, she removed her black jacket from the hanger and place them on the table.
Her outfit was ready for the day, so she unlocked her door and left for the kitchen to make some breakfast for everyone before they could wake up and also while waiting for Duke. Ambling along the corridor, she had noticed that her mom’s room was slightly opened, and as usual, she wandered by it to check on her like she always had the habit to do.
Bethany’s eyes were amazed at her mother’s actions in her room sitting on her bed with the lights off and with her father’s portrait in her hands. Mrs. Marvin had not slept all night as her mind and heart could not find rest in what was going on in her life. How could she explain that someone will deliberately inflict pain and suffering on her and for what reasons?.
Her essence tore up into many little pieces catching a glimpse of her mom in such a condition. Her face had turned pale with grief. Her eyebrows lowered and pulled closer together. The inner corners of her eyebrows angled up with her mouth drawn backward as tears made their way out of her eyes.
She could not just bear to stand there and watch her mother crying out herself in her room alone so she slowly pushed the door to one side and with the most gentle voice she had ever addressed her with, Bethany whispered to her,
“You are not alone my darling mother, so you do not have to cry anymore”.
Her attention was veered around to the person standing in her room and without saying a word to Bethany, she looked up at her and the pain that she could see in her mother’s eyes did the talking for her.
Stepping out of his bed with the incessant ringing from his phone, Duke, walked to the couch to pick up the call to know who it was. Using his hands to serve as a shield in covering his mouth as he yawns out, he swiped his phone’s arrow to the top as he listened to the special agent that he had assigned to get every information that he needed to know about Doctor Travis.
” What’s new Drake, I hope you have something that will be useful for me this morning?”, he inquired, wiping his face with his left hand. Unknown to him, his mother had led Sylvia to sleep at the house last night but as he had come back late, he had not noticed that someone was in his room.
Without thinking of anyone being there in his room with him, Duke listened to all the information that his stoolie had about his target. Satisfied with the news, he told him not to worry about a thing as he was going to be hugely compensated.
“Thank you, boss, and I have a copy of everything I just told you now, so I will be waiting for you at the roundabout not too far from your street to hand it over to you”, Drake said all glad that his work was pleasing to Duke.
” I will be there in a while”, he responded wearing a smile on his face and thinking of calling his friend who is the police dean send some elements to meet with him at the hospital as soon as he gets there. He had taken the matter personally as no one tries to harm the people he loves and is interested in.
Time was passing faster from the time he had set his foot out of his bed, and without wanting to arrive late at Bethany’s house, he dropped his phone and twirled his gaze to the direction of the bathroom, when he saw someone on his bed.
Shocked at the sight of Sylvia who was sleeping in his bed under his sheets, Duke took a look at himself and not being able to understand how in Gods name she had managed to get into his bed, he walked to her with an outraged in his face and without thinking twice he yelled out.
