Bethany looked at Duke with so much respect and admiration for caring over her mother and family so much. She did not know whether to tag herself as a fool for not discovering how reasonable he was but rather focusing on his weaknesses.
Plopping a smile on her face, she could not stop staring at Duke and the latter noticed that her eyes were glued on him. In wonder, he was dying to ask what she was thinking about as her eyes did not want to move away from his body.
” Are you okay Betty”, his tone alerted her, and regaining her senses, she jerked as she felt her mother looking at her in fright. Asking her daughter not to feel bad for her, Bethany went down on her toes saying,
“I have to be worried about you as you are my mother and the most significant person that I have”.
Duke had been glimpsing at them and his heart skipped with joy, but concerning what that doctor had done, that was enough reasons to put him behind bars for good.
” Have you had anything to eat or drink?”, Mrs. Marvin consulted after crying out her pain mad Duke telling her not to bother about that, asked her to please take care of herself and not to worry because he was going to ensure that everything is sorted out.
Informing the both of them to be ready tomorrow morning, he said that he was going to pick them up and together they will lead the way to the hospital and leading with Bethany not to forget to bring those medical documents along, he announced.
“Thank you Duke for your kindness”.
“Please do not mention”, Duke cut in as he let out a smile. The day was slowly coming to an end and the breeze blew harder. It was time for Duke to go back home so Bethany suggested that her mother goes into the house so that she will not catch a cold while she sees him off to his car.
Mrs. Marvin slowly walked into her house with a disturbed face and Bethany knowing how painful it was to live something like that, had her plans of going to meet Doctor Travis at his office sooner than he can ever imagine.
The silence between them was a call for concern and Duke looking at the sadness that had formed on her face as her eyebrows moved towards each other and wrinkles formed on her countenance he could not help but ask what the matter was again.
Bethany shook her head in scrutiny for some people’s wickedness, murmured bitterly wondering what they could gain from acting like devils when they subject other people to unnecessary pain.
” You do not need to think about all these things again Bethany and I am here for you my sweet parking”, Duke grumbled as he reached his car and opened the door to get the envelope that was kept inside the car safe.
“But you do not know what I was willing to do just to recoup my mum from perishing, and you think that I should not think about it?”, her tone had become a little bit louder and her words were turning out to be impulsive but Duke coming out of his car and understanding what she must have been through living all those years with the thought that her mother was suffering from a deadly disease whereas it was all staged.
But what Duke could not understand was the reason behind the doctors’ audacity to put his career on the line, was it just to have a taste of Bethany?.
She could notice how disturbed his countenance had become followed by the recess. Tapping him on the shoulder, she asked what was going on in his head and Duke looking at Bethany, told her what he was thinking about.
” Are you thinking that there is more to all this than what we are discovering?”, her question plunged Duke into an uncountable thought which was difficult for him to say exactly. But in his life growing up as a young and wealthy man, he was aware of how things were being run in life, and looking at the situation, the doctor had a lot of explaining to do as far as Mrs. Marvin’s case is concerned.
“Here take this and ensure that you all are fine and comfortable”, he let out as he handed over the envelope to Bethany. Not being able to understand why he was giving her the envelope and what its content is, she denied taking it but after some minutes of him insisting that she takes it, her hands ultimately lifted to the envelope as she took it.
Eva stood at the window in the room, and looking at her friend tighter with Duke, she could not help but feel happy for her as she had finally decided to give love a chance and it was not with any kind of man, but with one of the youngest and handsome Billionaires in town.
An emotion of pain slowly made its way into her heart and her mind took it from there transmitting it to every part of her face and tears became inevitable as they flew off of her eyes with her face becoming red from wiping it so much.
” Why do I have to be so unfortunate and why did my heart have to beat for you Henry?”, Eva murmured alone in the space, gliding herself down on the side till the floor where she sat down weeping bitterly. She felt so miserable and though she was making an effort not to let anyone know that she was hurt, she could not lie to herself because it was difficult to accept that Henry had forgotten about her
He had not called nor left a message for her, and Eva who had hoped that he was going to show up saying he was sorry to have sounded that way, endured in vain and the thought of it was slaying her softly.
“I hope that everything is set for tomorrow, Henry interrogated his agent, and with a smile of contentment, he hung up the call as he could not wait for the next day to show itself. His heart raised and with eyes shaped like almond seeds, he saw Eva’s face in every corner of his room.
” I am going to make you comfortable my queen, and you will know that I love you for real”, he muttered alone in his room and the wine he was drinking was the perfect gulp for the joy that he was feeling at that point. Bethany is the only thing left out of his plans, picked up his phone that was lying on the tiny table, where his bottle of wine was standing as he needed to give her a call to seal his agenda.
“Have a goodnight and do not forget about the little outing I told you about okay?”, Duke whispered in Bethany’s ears and the joy on her face was indescribable. She wish was for time to just stop still for some moments so that Duke will stay with her a little longer but it was impossible as he needed to go back home and prepare for tomorrow’s meeting with his doctor.
Positioning a kiss on her forehead, he bid her farewell, turning around his car and unlocking the door to get inside. without anything more, he drove out of there, while Bethany stood out alone thinking of how delightful loving someone was actually.
Her soft reflections withered by the sound of the ringtone of her phone. Shoving her left hand into her pocket, she brought out her phone and with a serious look as she caught sight of who the caller was, she picked up the call and spoke out with a cold tone.
” Hi, Henry”.
“Hi Betty, how are you today?”, he inquired but Bethany not wanting to act hypocritically asked him why he had tongue her friend in that manner. She was aware of the hazards in jumping to conclusions after listening to a one-sided story, but at that point in her life, she could not bear to see Eva in that state and thinking of how good and supportive she had been to her, it was her then to defend her as well.
Henry made an effort to calm Bethany down as he explained everything that had happened letting her know that he was not a troublesome person but Bethany told him about the pains that she firmed had gone through because of what he had said, told him that of was very mean of him.
” I am deeply sorry for everything and that is why I am calling you now, I need your help”, he spoke out.
“You need my help for what Henry if it is to ask me to beg her for you, know that I won’t cuz you are supposed to be the one to fix your mess”, she whispered pushing to the limit but getting to make him understand the situation.
” No I am not calling to talk to her but I want you to do something for me”.
“What the hell, are you being serious, if you do not want to talk to her, why then are you calling me to ask for me help and on what exactly?”.
Her hostility became distinguished and Eva who had come out to call for her so that they could discuss what Duke had said concerning Mrs. Bethany’s health, overheard her fried discussing over the phone and shouting at Henry. Feeling hurt as she had given attention to her friend’s asking Henry why he did not want to talk to her, she went back inside the house feeling all damage thinking that, Bethany had called him to beg on her behalf. She felt betrayed and thought that even her friend saw her as someone who did not have love in her life.
The change in her countenance cropped up with her eyebrows lowered and killed closely together and her lips tightened and curls inwards with other corners of her mouth pointing downwards. She felt like her whole world had rotted after that harassing incident of an unknown person calling her.
The thing about it, she felt a cold feeling of fear run through her back to the fact that the lesson might not have let her alone but just wanted to let her think that he was giving up on her. Eva could not lay her hands on who it could be, but she was certain that one of her bad feats from her past life which she had tried so much to hide, had come back to haunt her down.
” Are you sure she will be not be hurt anymore, and that you plan to make slaughter things this time around?”, Bethany asked wanting Henry to stand by his words and he corroborated all that he had told her.
“Please, I just need her to be at the address that I have sent to you, It should be as discreet as apparent, because I do not want her to get suspicious of anything Betty”, Henry added to all he had said to her.
” Deal, I will personally send Eva to the said place”, she mumbled with pleasure on her face. Henry was glad to know that he could count on Bethany and she was equally in a joyous mood as she had found out that he loves Eva and has kept a very big surprise for her which she is going to unveil tomorrow.
“I wish I could see the surprised look which will be brought out on her expression when she will finally see what Henry has for her. Unfortunately, she could not be preset as she had some unfinished business with Doctor Travis that needed urgent attention else her mind will not be at peace.
