“Perverts are the perfect persons for people like you”, Duke said rolling his tongue making her shake on her seat. Just when she was about to drink up, she felt like something was staving off her glass from going up and wondering why her hand was restrained, she brought up her head and saw that Duke was holding the glass.
” Why are you stopping me from drinking?”.
“You are not used to this and I will not Irish you having it again as you did some couple of minutes ago”.
” You think that I can not be like the women you have been with or better still like the doctor who throws herself at you or the last I met at your office?”, she asked furiously.
Duke could see the fire in her eyes as she spoke up and wondering whether he should let it slide or not, he asked,
“Are you jealous Bethany?.
” Jealous?”, She laughed out rolling her eyes and looking elsewhere she asked him why she will be jealous. Rising to her feet she whispered slowly,
“The night is going to be a long one as this rain had no plans of ending”. Bethany spoke out thinking out to herself that this could be an opportunity for her to try some new things and learn more about him.
She was the shy type and did not know how to communicate her feelings but she was aware of what she was feeling for him as was confirmed on several occasions when he approached her. Pulling out the Tv remote control, Duke put on the television in his room and the first thing that appeared was the flood that was taking place in most cities in the country.
” Oh my God I feel for these people”, she spoke out, and shaking her head, she could imagine how it was going to affect them negatively as some will be homeless. Duke looking at her, spoke out as he pointed out the fact that the rain is been falling for hours now.
“It only means that you are going to sleep here because there is no way for you to return to the hospital”, he said fixing his gaze at her. Bethany was not happy with the idea but there was nothing she could do as all the roads were blocked with no way of going back home or to the hospital.
Frowning her face she said she was not going to sleep in there with Duke and turning her face, Duke told her not to worry as he was going to sleep in another room.
‘I own this penthouse Bethany, so I can sleep anywhere I want”, he said to his feet. Not feeling comfortable with his suggestion, Bethany asked him to stay and sleep on the couch instead because she could not sleep there alone.
Taking a look at her at laughing out so much he raised a question,
” Are you scared of sleeping alone?”. Bethany did not find it funny but he kept on laughing at her so she got angry and sat down deciding not to offer another word. Noticing the silence, he went to her and apologizing for his behavior, he said softly,
“I just want to know you better, I want to know your likes and dislikes as well as your fears”.
” I do not have any fears”.
“Yes you do ad you just said it some seconds ago”, he pressed on it making her feel more uneasy. Biting her upper lips and pressing her fingers against her skin, she lowered her head and said,
” This place is just so big and I have never slept out of my house at least not in a man’s house”, her words fell out and Duke watched her say it with so much sincerity. Touching her hands with his, he whispered,
“You do not need to be afraid because I won’t harm you, moreover, there’s a first time to everything don’t you think?”, his question hit her.
Her eyes meeting he’s, she could feel how nice it was to love someone and without being able to move her head she could feel that Duke’s breath was touching her more and more and his body came closer to hers.
Closing her eyes as it shows that she was very nervous, Duke noticed that doing that was going to be a bad idea as he wanted her to be the one to ask him to do so. Standing on his feet, he moved away from Bethany, but she was still in her position thinking that he was still there and she was twisting her fingers and biting her lips in tension.
Listening to Duke’s voice a bit far from her, she opened her eyes and saw him sitting on the other side facing her while she smiled like the god of cuteness.
Taking up herself in shame she wondered why Duke had not kissed her whereas he had the opportunity to.
” Is he playing with me or am I not his type of girl?”, these questions dwindled their way in her mind as she kept on looking at him and removing her eyes from him each time she felt his gaze coming to her.
The news was all about the flood and she instantly thought about her friend again and divided to call upon her to check out how she’s doing. Knowing that Henry was there with her, she still needed to talk to her.
Moving her lips as she walked closer to Duke, she begged for Henry’s contact as she did not have it, Duke without any hesitation, gave her the contact before even asking what she needed it for.
“I need to call Eva to know how she is doing”, she spoke out but Duke told her that she is with Henry but Bethany insisted that she needed to talk to her still.
Dialing Henry’s number, she waited for some seconds for him to pick and when she heard his voice from the other side, she quickly spoke out as she identified herself and asked about her friend.
Henry explained to her that she was doing fine but she insisted whether she could talk to her for a second and he accepted. Passing the phone to Eva that was in Henry’s arms, she spoke out with a happy tone.
” Hello friend, where are you I have been waiting for you”, Eva said.
Turning her gaze to Duke who was peeping at her, she swallowed the saliva that was still pending in her throat as she said slowly,
“I am with Sir Duke”.
” With Sir Duke?”, she raised a question all surprised. Bethany comprehended that Eva was getting on to bombard her with questions, ask holding the mike of the phone with her left hand, she pleaded with Dike if she could step out of the room to talk with her friend and he nodded in acceptance.
Bethany went into the kitchen and quieted down her friend who looked like go have neglected that she was still hospitalized. Stammering over the phone as she needed to talk to her on an important matter but Eva was so overwrought by the fact that her friend was with her crush that she did not even give Bethany the chance to talk.
“Tell me what happened, did you both kiss give me all the details”, Eva cried out. Bethany felt embarrassed and telling her friend to shut up for a minute, she said,
” Nothing happened between us and nothing will happen”.
Henry’s phone being on loudspeaker, he was happy that Duke had an opportunity to be in one place with Bethany as they needed to talk things over.
“Tell him about your feelings and how you feel, he loved you very much and you know it”, she spoke out laughing and without any hesitation, she told Bethany that she was to be discharged the next day.
Bethany was so happy that she asked what she will want her to cook to receive her at home and Eva rolling her eyes, she said she will eat anything that her friend will cook.
Bethany was glad to feel that her friend was doing fine already, taking out a deep breath, Eva pointing out that the roads were overrun, she told Bethany to go back and experience the joy of having a man and without any reluctance, she hung up the call.
“Hello, hello, she cut the call”, Bethany spoke out taking a look at the phone again and burst out laughing. Her firmed was a very mad girl and she had grown to take her just the way that she is.
Turning as she head for the room, she was startled by Duke’s appearance as she saw him standing at the kitchen door and smiling at her while he asked,
” You are something huh?”.
“Have you been eavesdropping on my conversation with my friend?”, she inquired.
Duke walking around in the room, said that there was nothing to listen to as he already could tell the kind of girl that she is. Bethany who did not want to engage in a fight with him chose to ignore him.
Listening to the sound that was coming from her stomach, she asked Duke what he had as food in his house and turning his stare at her and thinking back to the delicious meal she had made at her house, he asked with so much anxiety,
” Do you want to cook Bethany?”.
“Yes, but not for you, it is for me”, she replied walking into the kitchen to search for what she could find.
” Do you live here?”, she inquired and he answered back to her question saying that he loves to spend some time there and Bethany taking a deep breath, further asked whether he has any siblings and how his parents were doing but Duke walked do meet her in the kitchen, and standing beside her he asked,
“Do you want to know about my family now or do you prefer to do so over dinner?”.
Raising her head she smiled at him and said that she just wanted to know him better. Duke felt good and he had not let any woman into his kitchen to make food for him but here he was looking at Bethany search for things to make a meal.
Opening his fridge, she saw some cucumbers, bell peppers, a lemon, tomatoes, scallions, and baking potatoes. Looking at Duke, she asked whether that was all he had and he said yes so Taking them out, she plops them into the sink while she washed them very well with water. Duke opening the other side which was the freezer, he took out some chicken and beef asking what she could do but Bethany said that she had no time to get a steak ready so she was going to make use of the chicken.
The cupboard on her head was where things like garlic, onion, feta cheese, and mint were been kept. Taking a bottle of olive oil and some seasoning, she was ready to go. Asking him to help her cut the chicken into reasonable sizes, Duke could not afford to say no and so he unwrapped the chicken and placed it in the sink washing it again.
Bethany extending her right hand took out a chopping board and a knife and handed it over to him. Duke had never done anything in the kitchen before and he did not want to leave in the lurch the lady he was wooing so he had to do his very best.
” Are you sure you can do it?”, she asked just after seeing how he held the knife but Duke could not disgrace himself so he answered telling her that he could do a perfect job.
Letting him have his way, Bethany was surprised at the first sliced that Duke did and not being able to find herself back she burst out laughing.
