Moving to the bar, he took out a bottle of Whiskey and bringing it to the table, Bethany felt happy with what she was seeing. Before pouring out the drink into her glass, he told her that they needed to talk about something very important as the dusk was already seen and it seemed like she was going to sleep in his room.
Peeking on Bethany, Duke asked her to take a seat so that they could have a proper talk without any arguments. Bethany looking at him in his serious mood went to sit down and waited for what he had to say.
“I am all ears Sir Duke”, she spoke out leaning on the sofa. Letting out a smile as he formulated the manner in which he was going to ask her about her relationship with the guy he had seen her at the hospital, Duke poured out some drink in his glass and nothing his lower lips as though he was caught in an immoral act, Duke was able to get the courage to ask Bethany what he wanted to know.
” Is that your boyfriend I saw you at the hospital with?”, he voiced out not being sure of what her reaction will be. Not being able to hold back herself from laughing at the question, Bethany repeated his question by asking if he was seriously asking him that and why he will even think that Carl is her boyfriend.
Her reaction made him a bit off but he liked how simple and free-minded she could be when she decides to and looking at her laugh, Duke felt like the burden of the world was taken off his shoulders and her innocence was something that no man will ant to leave untouched.
Duke had kept every single word Eva had said that night at the hospital about her firms and Duke could give attention to them playing in his head every day like a symphony on repeat but his question was how could such a young and beautiful lady never involved in a relationship or with any man before.
Rising to his talons he further asked her why she was laughing and Bethany making an effort to control her laughter, said that she was amazed by his question as Carl is her friend and she was surprised to see him again that day after many years.
“Just came back into the country”, she spoke out but Duke flashing back at the way Carl was staring at him at the hospital, he could tell that Carl has feelings for Bethany but she had not just realized it yet. Calling out Duke’s attention and taking him out of his trance, she asked him what was going on in his mind as he seemed worried but coming back to himself, he smiled as he brush off her question telling her not to bother about him as he was perfectly fine.
Bethany gave him a dazzling smile. ” Where is this place?”, she raised a question that had been hovering around her mind for some time.
“It is my penthouse”, he responded asking whether she likes it and she moves her eyes around, confirmed that the place was fine. Moving closer to Bethany and seeing how uncomfortable she was feeling as he approached her, Duke spoke softly telling her not to be afraid of him and that he will not do anything bad to her.
Bethany’s breath had doubled the normal rhythm and her heart was beating fast in her chest but she behaved like nothing was going on while she squeezed her hands on her dress closing her eyes tightly. Going down slowly and reaching for her ear, Duke took out his time to admire how beautifully her hair texture was and bringing his lips closer, he said,
” How about you become my girlfriend Bethany?”, he asked moving upwards, and just with his gaze, he could see her body covered with goosebumps as she trembled uncontrollably and tears came down her eyes as she said,
“I have not had something like this before”.
” I am willing to teach you”, Duke spoke out extending his hands as he held her arms as asked her to look at him. Bethany feeling so shame could not bear to look Duke in the eyes and taking off her arms from he’s she moved away from him.
Letting out a huge sigh, she said,
“You have all kinds of women in your life, why me?”
“Why not you?”, he asked striding towards her again and with so much pain, Bethany lowered her gaze as she said that she is a nobody and their worlds are not the same.
” I want to have something with you Bethany, something beautiful if only you will let me”, Duke spoke out reaching for her hand, but Bethany’s mind was just set on going back home but unfortunately for her, the rain did not seem like it was going to stop anytime soon.
Taking out a deep breath, Bethany said that she could not date him and Duke feeling what he was feeling for her noticed that she was scared so he asked her,
“You can’t date me or you do not want to?”.
Taking a seat on the sofa, she ran her hands through her hair saying that it was complicated and she was not ready for a relationship. Duke growing down on his toes, told her that she did not need to be ready, she just has to live each moment as though it was the last.
His words sank into her as they were similar to what her friend always told her whenever she was faced with a situation. Bethany looking at Duke and seeing the sincerity in his eyes, brush off the fact that he was a player, and her heart skipped a million times but again she told him that all she wanted was to earn some money and take care of her mother’s surgery.
” My family is very important to me than all this Sir”, she spoke out and Duke rising to his feet steering by her said,
“Firstly stop calling me sir you can just call me by my name and secondly, your mother’s case will be solved don’t worry about it”.
Looking at him as though he was not taking her seriously, she got up from the chair and asked how she was going to raise such an amount in such short peril of time, and the only thing they have left is that house that her father left for them which the is thinking of selling out if it comes to the worst as she could not watch her mother die like that.
Noticing her tears running down, Duke stood up on his feet and taking her into his arms, caressed her hair and kissed her forehead, making her feel. lole a baby. Bethany pausing as she felt his soft body against hers and his attention, she just stood there feeling every bit of it as she had never had the opportunity to be that close to any man.
The atmosphere had become enjoyable as she slowly took up her hands and placing them on his waist making her shortness seem so glaring as she stood in front of me.
” You do not need to worry about anything as I am here for you girl”, Duke spoke out, and tilting to the side, he carried her on his arms like a newborn can’t with no weight. Walking to his bed, he placed her on it, asking whether he could lay down by her, and without having the time to think, she nodded her head in agreement to his proposal.
Bethany could not believe that she was on the same bed with her boss and it was nature just wanted them to remain there as the rain only kept on pouring out and it was not showing any sign of stopping.
Out of excitement, Duke asked her,
“What if we get married?”.
Those words got Bethany so angry that she got up grim the bed yelling at him,
” Do you say this to every girl that you want to have sex with?”.
Duke was stunned as her mood had suddenly changed and he wondered whether it was because he had asked her that question. Keeping on a smile on his face, he made an effort to give rise to a peaceful ground between them as it was before but Bethany was already so mad at him.
“Calm down girl I don’t want to have sex with you if I wanted I would have done so already”, he spoke out and that only made things worse. Opening her mouth and stammering as the words refused coming out, she asked him what he meant by that and Duke sat quietly as he noticed that everything he says was only going to make matters worst.
Sitting down and wondering in her head if all he said was a lie, Duke spoke out telling her that she was wrong about him as he has been in a lot of short-term relationships with a lot of ladies that it had just turned out to be one nightstand.
Letting out a high sigh, he narrated to her that once he was able to state his intentions, he was able to date women without any guilt or anxiety about taking advantage of them as most of them three themselves at him without him having to ask for anything.
” You are an extraordinary woman”.
“You know nothing about me”.
” I may not know all about what makes Bethany Warren, who she is, but I find you very different from a lot of other women I have met”.
“Don’t you mean ‘slept with?”, she asked raising her head as though she expected to listen to something else.
Duke went completely still and glared at her.
“Is that what you believe?, that I sleep with every woman that neither meet nor date?”. He asked a little bit frustrated about her vision of him.
“Don’t you?”, Bethany asked, answering his question with one of her own.
A smile softened his even features. ” I wish”.
Bethany’s jaw dropped. “You what?”, she asked in surprise as though that was not what she was expecting to hear but before she could say another word Duke break-in,
” I wish I had the opportunity and stamina to sleep with every woman I have ever known”.
“You have ED?”. Bethany raised a question having in mind that she was shaking a table on one leg and will not be able to support the weight of it when it finally collapses.
Duke looks stunned. ” I do not have erectile dysfunction!”, he exclaimed wondering why she was asking him all those questions.
“Well don’t act so strong”, she said standing from her seat and walking around then coming back to the table to get a glass of whiskey.
” I will be older in some days and I don’t mind admitting that I can go as often as I did at nineteen, but for someone approaching middle age, I have had very few complaints”.
“Are you bragging or stating a fact?”, Bethany asked and with a disgusting look, she asked Duke why they were having such a conversation in the first place and he responded,
” That was because you wished to find out if the man who is standing in front of you and who is asking you out, is capable of making you feel like the woman that you are. His answer only made her feel shyer as she became all red.
Grumbling to herself, she spoke out in spectacle wondering the kind of man he was talking about his escapades as though they were normal.
“I can hear that”, Duke said letting out a teasing smile. Peeking at him she said out loud, ” You are a pervert”.
