The rain seemed to be very serious outside and the wind was blowing too very hard which made Bethany quicken her steps to meet her friend faster.
“God helps me out”, she spoke out hurrying as she was very frightened by the rain and the dark.
Going through the corridor leading to Eva’s ward, the lights came back and Bethany was just about to take the other corridor when she saw Carol taking up herself as she stood on her feet and placing a kiss on Duke’s lips, she spoke out,
” I have always loved you, Duke, I never stopped loving you even for a second, and knowing that you have no wife and no child, I am going to have you back”, Carol said turning her tongue and giving rise to seductive moves.
Duke extending his hands and holding Carol by the shoulder, told her never to do that again as he now loves someone else and Carol interrogated,
“Are you referring to that poor and dirty-looking girl whose friend is in there with Henry?”.
Trying to retain his anger, he held his tongue in his mouth and made an effort to walk away but Carol blocked him as she asked him to follow her inside her office.
Bethany who had been standing there and watching the moment, her phone began to ring and shaking off at the sound of her ringtone, Duke, and Carol realized that she has been standing there. Duke calling out her name, only scared her the more coupled with everything she had watched, she apologized and ran off.
Duke called her out several times but Bethany had left and Carol told him not to bother as girls like her only love rich men for their money but Duke giving her a disgusting look walked out on her.
Bethany had already run out of the hospital without looking at where she was going. Running under the rain, she left the hospital and began walking on the streets all wet.
She could not explain what was going on in her head but she was very hurt by the look of things. Duke looked everywhere for her and when he asked the people around at the hospital, he was told that a young girl had run out of the hospital under the rain and they tried to stop her to no avail.
” Oh my goodness, it should not be what I am thinking”, Duke spoke out thinking of the worst as he ran out to lead the way to the parking lodge to get his car. Arriving at the parking lodge, Duke unlocked his car doors and entering his car, he reversed with a speed heading out of the hospital to get Bethany. The rain was very serious and he could barely see the way as he drove through the street watching keenly as to see her somewhere.
“I asked you a question. and you are yet to answer me Eva”, Henry spoke out ad he dawdled for a riposte from Eva but knowing what she had done in the past, Eva tightened her lips as she decided not to voice out anything.
Glancing at Eva, Henry asked her the same question again but this time with a more serious tone as he had got to know who was threatening him but once again Eva sat quietly. With an angry tone, Henry stood up and told Eva that he was leaving and Eva called out his name imploring him not to go as she put ok a sorrowful face.
Henry turning back to her, asked what the matter was that she could not tell him but Eva with tears in her eyes said,
” I wish it was that simple Sir Henry”.
Henry, wondering what could be the problem, told Eva to stop addressing him as Sir and also to let out what was wrong with her as he could be of help.
Raising her eyes and thinking of everything that had happened, Eva looked at Henry in the face thinking to herself what will happen when she will say the truth and the outcome was not going to be good.
“No one will be able to understand what I did as they all will judge me without any hesitation, so it is better I keep it to myself”, she murmured. Henry could tell that she has something to say but maybe because of fear and also maybe she thinks that she was not going to be understood, she had decided to keep it to herself.
Taking a deep breath, Eva hitting her lower lip and twisting her fingers like a juvenile who has committed a terrible sin, she spoke out with tears in her eyes,
” I do not love you, Sir Henry, I only see you as a good boss and I will not want to lie to you”.
“Are you sure of what you just said Eva?”, Henry raised a doubt giving the fact that, it was very clear that Eva was in love with him, but what he could not understand was why she had to lie about it. Stretching his hands to get hers, he asked whether she was angry over something he had said or whether he was not good enough for her, but Eva with a heavy heart knowing that the decision she was putting together is not the best, lowered her head as she took off her hands from Henry’s.
Taking a look at her, he asked what he had done for her to change her mind because he was certain that Eva loves him very much and it was written all over her. Wondering whether his questions could have been the reason why she was refusing to accept his love, Henry stood up and wishing her a quick recovery as he will be heading to the receptionist desk to pay for her hospital bills, he let out a sad smile while he walked to the door.
Putting up her head and observing him taking off, she mumbled,
” I will like for you to terminate my contract as I will not be returning to your company Sir”, her words fell out of her mouth like wildfire. Henry stood at the door not knowing whether to turn back and face her or to better open it and leave, he breathed in, and with a force, he unlocked the door and walking out of the ward, he slammed the door so hard that Eva could feel his pain and anger form it.
Holding her face in her hands, she cried out feeling awful for what had just happened, and uttering her love for Henry, she held her chest wishing that everything was different from what was happening now.
Telling an untruth, she had hurt herself even more than she had expected and she felt that it was more reasonable than telling Henry the truth.
Carol was in her office and her rage was more than she could tell as she could not believe the person that Duke had turned out to be,
“He preferred to follow that low-life girl with no class rather than being with me?”, she raised a question slamming her table as she reduced her eyes making them small, and swearing never to allow Duke to end up with Bethany. Walking around her office, she thought of ways to get Duke back even though it has been years since they last met.
Walking through the corridor, the lights went off and Henry’s mind immediately went back to Eva and the danger that she was facing these days and he walked back to her room at a speed that could push anyone who stood by his way.
Bethany walking around the streets wept so much that she did not even identify where she was going. The rain kept on putting in more water from the sky, and she began feeling dizzy.
Duke had noticed that someone was walking alone on the street and wiping off his screen to see better, he had realized that it was Bethany so he horned his car severally to get her attention but she kept walking like a deaf person.
Halting his car and going down to meet her, Duke held Bethany from behind, and turning her gaze to face him, she wondered what he was doing there under the rain.
” Leave me alone Duke”, Bethany spoke out with tears in her eyes but Duke could not understand why she was behaving like that since she always behaved like she doesn’t have a preference for him.
Taking her hand asking her to follow him to the car, he received a slap from Bethany without knowing where it was coming from. Duke turning to her and wondering why she had to do that, lost control over himself and his emotions and he yelled at Bethany telling her that she feels like the center of the world whereas she is nothing.
Duke asking her why she was behaving like a kid when it was very obvious that she was in love with him, but she kept on behaving like she had no feeling for him, and Bethany listening to enough of his nonsense, told him that she could never love such a despicable man like himself, a man who is a womanizer and who only thinks of what he can do with his shaft as it enters everywhere.
“You are just a wicked person Sir Duke and I will never fall for your schemes because I know the likes of you”, she spoke out crying and she could not even know why she was crying.
Duke looking at her, told her to leave the rain as she may fall sick but Bethany being stubborn as always, yelled at him not to touch her and asked him never to hold her hand again.
” Do you want to stay here under the rain?”, Duke asked with his anger rising and Bethany answered to him saying that he should run along to meet his doctor or the other lady she had seen in his office as that was all he was good at.
Taking a look at her, Duke walked closer and Bethany walked backward feeling scared of what she had said and with a shaky voice, she asked him not to come closer to her again or else she will scream.
“Scream and no one will give attention to your voice as you can see it is raining young lady”, Duke spoke out walking closer to her. Bethany could not take it anymore, as struggled to walk out on him but he held her closer looking at her in the eyes and feeling her heartbeat against his chest.
She was dumbfounded by what had happened and without having control over herself anymore, she stood in his arms and her gust could be felt as he stared at her lips.
” What do you want to do to me Sir Duke?”, Bethany inquired and Duke lowering his mouth to meet hers, wiped off her forehead making her face come out more clearly while he kiss her forehead, Bethany felt a kind of connection that she had never felt before and before Duke could think of anything further, he could feel her body become week in his arms like overcooked noodles.
Realizing that she had passed out, Duke panicked while shaking her up but she was not waking up so he carried her to his car all wet and turning to the other side, he entered his car and the only place that could come to his mind under such conditions was his own house.
“Are you okay?”, Henry walked into Eva’s ward as he could not help but worry about her and her safety, and on seeing Henry in her compartment, Eva let out tears of joy as she could not believe that he had come back for her and he was standing just right in front of her in the dark.
