Tory’s POV
” What’s wrong?” I asked tucking my hair behind my ears.
” it’s time for me to go Rya.” He said and I felt an inexplicable stinging sensation in my eyes and suddenly felt like there was a lump in my throat. I guess I didn’t really prep myself for when this happens.
” Oh…” I said sadly.
” Yeah”
” I got this for you,” I said giving him a headphone, it was a gift I asked detective Mason to get for Nate since I couldn’t think of anything to give Nate. I thought since Mason was a guy he would know what I should get for Nate. I was absolutely shocked when he gave me the headset this morning because I thought it was a lame gift. Nate already has a headset, he probably had dozens!
Despite Mason’s failed attempt, I made a way to make my gift feel special.
” It’s got all the songs that remind me of you, songs that we both used to listen to when we hang out.” I said but he didn’t smile the way I imagined he would when I held it out to him. He just sighed and pulled me in for a passionate kiss, the sound of people cheering made me realize that their eyes were still on us
Nate and I kissed passionately until he summoned the will to break the kiss. “I got this for you,” he said handing me a silver necklace with a pendant. I lifted my hair, he helped me put on the necklace and kissed my neck before he whispered in my ear, ” open the pendant”.
I turned around to face him before I opened the pendant and gasped before I hit him playfully and he laughed. It was a picture of him and me asleep on his bed, my head resting on his chest as he kissed my forehead.
“Nate! This was when we first slept together! You sneaky little -”
” Don’t lie Rya, it was the best time of our life.” He teased and we laughed. When I sniffed, he knew I would cry so he pulled me into an embrace.
” You do realize little bro, that dad’s waiting for us right?” Rex’s annoying voice said and Nate and I glared at him.
” he’s going too?” I asked, still glaring at Rex.
” Yes love, I’m going. I’d have loved to stick around but, you know me… Dad needs his favorite assassin.” Rex said with a blank expression.
” You’re disgusting.” I hissed and he scoffed and said, ” Feeling is mutual.”
” Shut the fuck up Rex,” Nate growled and some people stared at us.
” Drama king, do you have to cause a scene? Let’s go, baby, there’s no time to waste.” Isabella said as she places her arms around Rex’s waist.
” I’m sorry, she’s coming with us?” Nate asked as his eyes narrowed while he watched Rex and waited for a response.
” Nope, she’s just kidding. Though dad says I could come to see her once in a while – a privilege you can’t enjoy because you’re still pretty useless to him right now.” Rex said.
” But she knows about Big D” Nate said.
” No, she doesn’t, right love?” Rex said to Isabella and she nodded.
” You didn’t tell Big D that she knows about him, did you?” Nate asked as his brows furrowed and Rex glared at him.
” I can’t have her with me and I’m sure she won’t be a blabbermouth like Tory. Whatever you’re thinking about, I’m gonna end you before you get the chance to say a word… I’m off.” Rex said before he left the hall with Isabella holding onto him.
” Let’s go,” Nate said and I followed him out.
” Wait here, I need to talk to someone,” Nate said and I nodded as I waited for him to speak to a muscular guy, I assumed was his bodyguard or something.
” There you are.”I said Isabella’s annoying voice from behind me.
” Isabella,” I said turning around to see her glaring at me.
” Nice hair cut, though I don’t think pixie cut fits your face.” I deadpanned.
” Why does it have to be you?” She asked with her arms folded.
” Excuse me?”
” Every time, I have been in your Shadow, and no matter what I do it always stays that way.” She said and I realized that she was being serious.
” look if this is about you wanting to be prom queen, I’m sorry okay. I don’t even know how I won.” I said and immediately regretted why I even bothered explaining.
” Neither do I since I did everything Mr. Alvarez said is necessary to be considered as prom Queen, only you seem to have done it better.” She said shamelessly.
” I don’t know what you’re talking about okay.”
” Of course you don’t, you just breathe and everyone loved you. You know when your dad I was very happy because you looked like crap and everyone finally started to notice me but then you sprung back up, stole Rex from me, then Nate. Now, you’ve stolen my crown!”
” You’re disgusting! How can you say that you were happy that your best friend’s dad died?!” I literally yelled and she scoffed before she rolled her eyes and said, ” You’re not the one who had to live with her parents constantly comparing her to her best friend! I worked so hard to be better than you but you did nothing and yet you still got everything!”
” Look, you wanna know why? Because I’m not trying so hard to be someone else! The only time my life hit rock bottom was because I was so busy being someone I’m not – a melancholic. Maybe you should stop trying to be me.”I said with a satisfied smile on my face because it just dawned on me why Isabella had been acting the way she has for a long time.
She lifted her hands to slap me when Nate held her and pushed her backward, she fell on Rex’s body.
” The hell is wrong with you Nate, you wanna hurt my girl?” Rex yelled at him.
” How about you tell her to get her filthy hands off of my girl!” My heart raced at the sound of him calling me his girl, too bad it would be the last time I hear it.
” Your girl? You’re never gonna see her again you dumbass boy!” Rex said in a harsh tone.
” Doesn’t matter, she’s still mine.” Nate said, and they both stood there glaring at each other.
” You’ve already made arrangements to stalk her right? Great, you’ll be able to see when some other guy sweeps her off her feet.” Rex said with a smirk.
Nate was stung, I could feel it, he clenched his fist and closed his eyes.
” You know, I think you should choose the better option. Refuse to come, I’ll kill Tory and then you can live a less miserable life. That way you can be sure that you and I are the only ones who have banged her.”
Nate lost his mind and punched Rex in the face sending him sprawling on the floor.
“Punching me wasn’t an option,” Rex said getting up as he spat out blood and launched and Nate, punching Nate so hard. Rex pounced on him punching Nate continuously.
” Stop it!” Isabella yelled before Rex got up from Nate’s body. Nate got up from the floor as everyone came out to see the end of their brawl. His handsome face was all bloodied up and a tear dropped from my eyes, knowing he and Rex will keep fighting like this wherever they’re going.
I didn’t want to see him like that so I walked away.
” Rya…” I heard him call but I took off my shoes and ran off to get a taxi. Immediately I entered I turned around to see Nate running after the cab but he couldn’t keep up so he yelled out my name in frustration before he knelt on the floor by the sidewalks.
I burst out crying because it was all over. They’re going anyway, which means Big D Is fine and the police haven’t been able to stop him.
It’s the end for Nate and I.
Nate’s POV
” Rya!” I yelled as I watched the taxi cab drive off. I fell on my knees and gritted my teeth in anger. I knew why she turned away, she didn’t like to see me Fighting but she knew that’s what I’ll end up doing.
I’ll be trained into some ruthless assassin and she couldn’t take it. I got up and walked back to where Rex was standing, a smirk plastered on his face. I pretended not to care about him only to punch him before I entered my car.
He banged the body of the car angrily since I had locked the door. ” I’ll see you later you punk!” He yelled as my driver drove, my bodyguards were seated beside me and I turned around to see another car following me – the one carrying Rex.
I sighed before I took out the small headphone Tory had given me. I don’t remember picking it up from the floor when Rex punched me. It was already turned on, maybe my driver put it on for me.
I put on the headset and jolted a little when I heard a familiar voice speak through it.
” Nate, don’t say a word. When you see a red car pass yours, duck.”
It was detective Mason! I looked behind me to see Rex’s car behind and when I looked forward, a red car passed ours, it was so fast but I immediately ducked and the men gave me puzzled looks.
” What are you doing?” One asked and just then I saw a bullet enter his head and several other shots were fired at our car. I closed my eyes and my ears until the gunshots stopped and our car ran into something big bringing it to a halt.
When I got up they all seemed dead. Except for the driver, he reached out to something in his jacket and I quickly opened the door and ran out before the car exploded sending me flying down on the ground.
I got up and ran to the other side of the road, breathing heavily as I felt pain in my head. Rex was trying to come out of his car but the police kept firing at the car. When they stopped, I could tell Rex’s driver came out and shot at one of the policemen but they shot him and he died.
They brought Rex out of the car, bleeding profusely. I looked at him and he also looked at me as they carried him into their police van. I saw some of them walk up to me and I passed out.
