Tory’s POV
I looked at myself in the mirror and was grateful that mom put in my purse lip gloss and powder. Otherwise, I don’t know what I would’ve done about my face that Nate hadn’t spared from scattering kisses all over during our lovemaking.
” You don’t need it, I told you” he said with a devilishly handsome smirk on his face and I rolled my eyes.
” Nate just because you don’t see my flaws doesn’t mean that other people miss it as well.”
” You have no flaws,” he said with a smile as he used his hand to keep his hair slicked back before he got down from the car and went around to get the door for me.
” Let’s get this over with shall we?” He said as he offered me his hand and I took it as I got out of the car.
” We’re kinda late.” I pointed out but he made a face as if to say that he didn’t give a fuck about that.
” Well, that’s not entirely my fault. You were the one taking your precious time sleeping with me .” He said as a smile slowing formed on his face and he quickly held back his laughter when he saw my facial expression.
” Let’s go already okay?” I said, blushing as I remembered how I didn’t want us to stop having sex and Nate had to tell the driver to park somewhere so we could have another go at each other.
” We could have a fourth round in the restroom.”
” Shut up!” I said as we entered the school hall. It was well decorated and people were already starting to dance.
” Oh my Gosh! Tory?!” Janelle, Joanne, and Rachel said at the same time and I hugged them.
” You girls look beautiful!” I said excitedly and they giggled.
” Not as stunning as you!” Rachel said with a grin.
” You have me to thank for that.” Nate boasted shamelessly and I rolled my eyes.
” Yeah, he got me everything I’m wearing.” I added much to his surprise and he looked at me as though he wanted to kiss me there and then.
” Awww,” they all said as they looked at us like we were adorable kids.
” You guys are kinda late though.” Rachel quickly scolded.
” You have Tory to thank for that.” Nate quipped and I glared at him, making him smirk.
” What did we miss?” I asked and Janelle sighed as she took a glass of wine from one of the guys serving.
” Not much, just boring speeches and stuff. Its been fun since we started dancing though, I got tired and escaped my date -”
“- who happens to be really hot.” Joanne cut in and I smirked as I saw a tall guy in a blue suit standing behind Janelle.
” You mean that guy behind you?”I said and Janelle almost spilled her drink when she saw him behind her.
” Babe! I thought I said five minutes!” She said with a nervous smile and he smirked.
” I can’t wait that long, come on let’s dance.” He said and Joanne, Rachel and I smiled at Janelle mischievously.
” Fine,” she said as she took his hand and left with him.
” Great, both of your boyfriends are here,” Nate said as Zach and Jake came.
” Woah, Tory you look beautiful!” Zach said and I smiled.
” And you look handsome Zachary.” I responded with a little exaggerated courtesy.
” Aww, thanks. Do you mind if I borrow my girl for a while?” He said and I shook my head.
” What he said,” Jake said and Rachel rolled her eyes.
” See you guys later.”Rachel said following Jake as they went dancing.
” So… Am I gonna see you dance ever?” I said turning to face Nate.
” Yeah umm… No!” He said as he put his hands in his pockets as if to say, ” end of story” and I giggled.
” Please, for me. I’ve never seen you dance.” I pleaded and even pouted knowing that that would break his defense.
” Okay, you go first.” He said as squeezed his eyes shut and laughed at my attempt.
At that moment, shut up and dance by walk the moon came on and everyone started cheering. I smiled at Nate as I started dancing and he laughed, he knew I was dancing badly on purpose but I loved that he was laughing.
” Rya, what are you doing?” He asked and I ignored him singing along to the lyrics as I danced. I was dancing with so much energy that the crowd eventually formed a circle around Nate and I, some were already recording and at this time I was sure that I wasn’t dancing terribly because people were starting to cheer while Nate closed his eyes with his palm as people started urging him to dance.
I sang the lyrics and he smiled at me as people kept egging him on.
” She took my arms, I don’t know how it happened. She took the floor as she said – oh don’t you dare look back, just keep your eyes on me, I said no holding back she said -”
” – shut up and dance with me, this woman is my destiny. She said oh, shut up and dance with me!” Nate sang back as he pulled me to him and carried me, tilting me downwards and then bring me back up again, making everyone cheer. He started dancing and I grinned at him, he didn’t suck at all! He was actually very good.
Soon everyone joined in the dancing, the girls forming a line and their dates standing opposite them as we sang along to the lyrics teasing our dates.
Everyone went into a wild dancing spree until the music changed into a slow waltz kind of song.
Nate who had after dancing crazily with his friends got tired and was standing at a corner talking with Jake, Zach, and Victor quickly snatched me and we started dancing to the song. I had never heard it before but it calmed me.
” I’ve been thinking Rya about today being our last time together.” He said, looking at me intensely.
” And?”
” I’m gonna find a way to be in contact with you. Maybe write you letters or have someone stalk you so I can see how you’re fairing.” I laughed at the last part. Not because it amused me but because it felt so sad, I rested my head on his chest as we danced in silence.
” I’ll miss you” I eventually said as I looked at him, tears gathering in my eyes and he clenched his teeth and wiped the tear from my face.
” Don’t do this to me Rya, don’t ruin me by crying, you know I can’t take it.”
” I’m sorry,” I said and he kissed me, making more tears fall from my eyes as he did.
” Let’s go outside,” he said and as we were about leaving, Mrs. Johnson announced through the mic on the platform.
” Excuse me everyone. Trust you’re all having a magnificent time this evening.”
” Yeah!” The students responded enthusiastically.
” Well before you all go home and enjoy the rest of the night, it’s time to announce this year’s prom King and Queen.”
Just then Isabella came into sight as she held on to Rex’s hand. He was dressed in a black tuxedo and smirked at Nate and I before he looked at Mrs. Arnold.
” I bet she’s already bribed her way to win this thing,” Janelle said from beside me and I looked at her, she was with her date who was standing behind her. Joanne and Rachel were beside her with their boyfriends behind them.
I sighed and said, ” if she wins, I’ll know she definitely bribed her way because Juniors don’t get consideration.”
” I heard they’re going to consider juniors,” Rachel said and I looked at her quizzically as Mrs. Arnold was going on about the beauty of the crown or whatever.
” … with that being said, I’ll call on the previous prom King and Queen to do the honors.”
Connor James and Lily George came into view as they climbed the stage and everyone cheered them.
” You know they broke up right?” Janelle said to us and we gasped.
” Uh-hun, they broke up in college.”
” Too sad, though I think it’s so weird how these couples usually win prom King and Queen.” Rachel said and we laughed.
” It’s our honor to announce this year’s prom king and Queen,” Connor said as he gave the paper to Lily, they were so far apart.
” They broke up alright,” Rachel said and we sighed, they used to be the perfect couple.
The whole place was quiet as Lily took it from him and smiled before she read out ” Roman Porter and Toni Williams!”
Everyone clapped and I screamed out as I clapped vigorously for my sister. She had become prom Queen just as Tia predicted, she was overwhelmed as she went on stage and sat on the regal-looking chair beside Roman – her ex.
Roman just sat there with a smirk on his face as Connor place the huge crown on his head while Toni grinned as Lily placed the crown on her head. She looked in the crowd for me and smiled at me when she saw me.
Two other chairs were brought and everyone started to wonder what was going on as Mr. Jenkins stepped on stage.
” This year, oakwood high thought we should give juniors who attend the chance to be prom King and Queen,” he said and juniors started clapping and whooping excitedly.
” So with that being said, this year’s prom king and Queen for Junior year are…” Connor said before he handed the paper to Lily.
Just like before everywhere was quiet as we waited for Lily to read out the names.
” What’s with the suspense? Just get it over with, I need to take a piss!” Nate said and everyone laughed.
” Alright then,” Lily said with a smile before she finally said ” Nate McClain and Tory Williams!”
” What?!” Nate and I both said before my friends pulled me into a hug and then pushed Nate and I forward as everyone clapped and cheered.
” We’re both queens” Toni yelled to me from her chair as I sat on mine. I saw Nate say something to Rex pissing him off before he came to sit beside me.
” What was that about?” I asked.
“Oh, nothing… I just told Isabella and Rex that I’m sure we could loan them the crown after this” he said with a smirk as Connor placed the crown on his head and they shook hands.
” King suits you, McClain,” Connor said to him with a smile as Lily placed a crown on my head.
” Thanks man.” Nate said with a smile.
” Presenting the kings and Queens for the year of 2017!” Lily and Connor said as we all rose to our feet and everyone clapped and cheered, the entire junior years bowed in mock reverence as Nate and I came down the stage and went to stand amongst and we laughed.
” All hail king McClain, the first of his kind and king of the sexy kingdom!” Zach yelled and everyone clapped.
My happiness was short-lived when Nate’s phone buzzed and he sighed after reading the text.
