Emiliano was pacing back and forth restlessly as he waited for the doctors to come out and give him a new of how sia was doing, it had been half an hour since he rushed her to the hospital and so far, the room she was out in was shut with no sign of anyone coming out only a nurse did she didn’t tell him anything he wanted to know. He was feeling miserable because he already did what anyone would do if someone was bitten by a snake, and hence he had sucked out the poison and tied a scarf close to where the snake bite was to prevent the poison from moving any further but still sia was in a terrible condition because whichever snake bit her was deadly, but how did a snake get there when the manager told them the place was free of any kinds of snakes?
“Emil, please tell us how she’s doing”lost in thoughts he heard his mom’s desperate voice as more of the family members ran to him including Cristal who looked as if she had been run over by a bus several times.
“W… what happened to my Sia? how did a snake bite her?” Cristal asked as she ran to the door and requested to see Sia but Angelo and Mario who came with them held them back.
“Aunt, please get hold of yourself the doctors are with Sia”it was Mario who said as he held Cristal back, but she was crying and kicking around wanting to see her daughter who was obviously in pain. Sia feared snakes more than anything and if she ever saw a snake, she would jump around.
“Emil talk to us, how did it happen?” Carmen asked Emiliano who had his head lowered to the white tiled floor hating everything minute they asked him the question, it was his fault sia was in such a condition if only yet didn’t take her there then she would have been okay.
“Please don’t ask me”Emiliano said in a low voice and Carmen looked at him and understood her son was having it worse than all of them, just judging but his dad expression and his hanging shoulders looking exhausted she greatly understood how he was feeling. Emiliano said that and went to the slightly glass door and stood there not keeping his eyes off the door.
“Aunt have this”Mario came back from the hospital cafeteria and handed Cristal some hot coffee as well as Carmen who were now sitting waiting for the doctors to come out. Angelo has tried to give some coffee to Emiliano, but he refused everything they gave him.
“He’s blaming himself”Mario whispered to Angelo as they stood at a corner observing their friend and Angelo nodded.
“Yes, did you do some investigation?”Angelo asked Mario and Mario sighed as he shoved his hands in his pockets.
“Yeah, I just flew back from Montreal only for Rhea to call and told me about this… well, I went there did some check up and the manager, including the workers, are certain the park is free from snakes”Mario explained because for the past days he had gone to another city for some business, but he decided to come back, and before he could go to the villa, Rhea called him, and hence he dropped everything and did what was needed.
“Are you certain? if the damn place doesn’t have snakes then how on earth did that rascal come from?” Angelo was both irritated and angry because if they lied, then it was likely Emiliano would not spare any of them. What if the thing has attacked Diego.
“The place is for kids Angelo, so the boss has some suspicions”Mario remarked and Angelo looked back at him with narrowed eyes and sighed if indeed the manager was right then they could ask well as say someone put the snake there which sounded ridiculous because who would do such a thing when there was a defenseless woman and a baby there.
“Let’s wait”Angelo said and went to sit with the two moms who weren’t even drinking their coffee which he fully understood because Sia was in danger and so far, it had been an hour and no sign of the doctors coming out. However, as if his wish was granted the blue door finally opened and a middle-aged doctor with short brown hair wearing all white and specs walked and Emiliano was the first one to ran to her the two moms.
“Doctor, how is she?” Emiliano asked and the female doctor looked around and delivered her news.
“Well sir, you did well when you stopped the poison from going further, but that didn’t do much because the poison had spread at a faster pace hence causing some problems but for now, we stabilized her and got rid of the poison… we gave her some medicine and…”the doctor explained to them as they listened carefully when she was brought in they had no idea what kind of snake bit her, some predicted it was a rattlesnake, but that wasn’t the case, the poison had taken much effect on the patient not just causing her drowsiness but short breath as well. She had relapsed several times and had stopped breathing for five minutes which took time and effort to bring her back but with dedication they did what doctors would do and save a life.
“Can we see her”it was Carmen and Cristal who asked at the same time and the doctor smiled.
“Maybe I think she wants husband first because she… did call onto Emiliano several times… is it the name of her husband?” The doctor asked with a raised curious brow and everyone including Mario and Angelo were amazed.
“He’s my son Emiliano and the patient’s husband”Carmen replied with a smile and Cristal nodded while Emiliano had a blank expression.
“She loves you a lot I could tell at the way she desperately called your name to save her… please go in, but please don’t wake her up”the doctor turned to Emiliano and said with a smile, but Emiliano didn’t react even when the doctor walked away down the corridor Emiliano didn’t move and inch.
“Son goes in”Cristal coaxed Emiliano, but he shook his head not wanting to see Sia, how was he to face her after putting her life in danger.
The four people didn’t know why Emiliano refused to see Sia, but they went anyway ; however, she was still unconscious and connected to all the hospital devices including iv and Carmen guessed she knew what. Her skin was placed white, and hence they didn’t stay long as they left, including Mario who felt bad seeing his friend in such a state. Sia was a friend anyone would wish for but she was in a hospital bed fighting for her life.
“You should go home and freshen up I’ll stay here”Angelo said to Emiliano because he looked awful and Angelo knew he was exhausted.
“You go I’ll stay here”Emiliano spoke for the first time and Angelo sighed, Mario had already taken the two moms back home after forcing them to go and rest. It was nighttime and sia was still unconscious hence the two moms preferred not to go anywhere, but Mario convinced them to go and come back the next morning, and hence they left, but Emiliano was just sitting there like a zombie lost in thoughts.
“Emil… try to…” Angelo started, but he cut him off.
“She’s my wife I’ll stay with her”he said that and got up from the chair and Angelo had no choice than to obey his friend, and therefore he said his goodbye and left from there leaving Emiliano with mixed emotions.
