MEGAN
Unbelievable.
FORREST STILL had a father. Estranged, dangerous, or not, he should be lucky, at least he still got one. I wondered if he ever mentioned his father to our friends, or this was one of his many secrets.
Forrest was still on top of me after another round of amazing and steamy sex—he made love with me and made me feel so special and cared for.
He looked worried though, and hell, I was anxious.
He was constantly sighing and zoning out. I wished I could help or stop him from meeting his father, but I didn’t know what to do. I’d never been in his situation. The fact that his mother was worried about him, then he could be in great danger.
“This isn’t our last sex, right?” I wanted to hit myself in the head.
Forrest wasn’t surprised. So, I made myself believe that we wanted the same thing.
He groaned. “Uh-uh. I’m not done with you. Not even close. There could be hundreds more, thousands even.” I could feel his lips curved against my chest.
“Forrest, look at me.” When he lifted his head, I cupped his face, compelling him to look me in the eye. “Promise me one thing.”
“What is it?” His eyebrows squished together. His eyes pooled with concern.
“Look, I’m not trying to be clingy since we never talk about—whatever, but I wanna see you again. I kinda like what we have. I like us. I don’t want you to go and meet that man without telling you that you mean to me, Forrest.” I bit my lip when my eyes turned watery. Oh, God! I’m getting all weepy. “Please, come back to me safe.”
“I’ll be fine. Don’t worry about me.” He traced his thumb on my cheek. His assurance had no guarantee, but I had to believe in him somehow. “I don’t wanna disappoint you by promising you, then I end up breaking it, but what I can promise to you is, I’ll take care of myself and make sure to come back to you in one piece.”
I nodded against the pillow. “Fair enough. Another thing.”
His eyes lit up with mischief. “Of course, anything.”
“Whatever you have in mind, forget it.” I rolled my eyes. “Are you going to sleep with her again?”
“No.” He flinched. “Why are you asking me about this?”
“Look, this is all new to me, but I just wanna make sure where I stand.”
“I am here with you, ain’t I? I thought we’re pretty clear about this already.”
“That was before I knew you have a fuck buddy.”
“I’m sorry. I should have told you about her.” Guilt plastered on his face. “I won’t be sleeping with any woman anymore, but I want you to do the same because I don’t, and I won’t share you with anyone, Megan.” His last words were strong like a promise, and I wanted to jump on the bed.
“I won’t share you with… her either or with anyone.”
“Great.”
“You’re mine for now.” I grinned like I just received a Christmas gift. Hopefully for a long time.
“Then I am yours. Took you long enough to say it?”
I was shocked, and I thought he was shocked as well. We stared at each other for like eternity as if we were trying to sink all in and understand the only point of our conversation. We were already talking about our relationship.
We seemed to be on the same page for a lot of things, and for a commitment-phobic like me, I never thought it would be this easy to talk about us.
Astound, I sucked in a quick breath, my heart almost stopped, then pounded so hard that I could feel it in my skin.
My lips slowly parted, and I could feel a smile slowly forming on my face. I was getting misty-eyed as I stared at him in disbelief.
I just couldn’t find words. Again, this man knew how to render me speechless. For the first time since I laid an eye on him, he smiled. It was so beautiful that I felt I just release a sigh of satisfaction just by watching him.
Forrest was smiling down on me. His face lit up, and I was still overwhelmed to say a word.
The skin at the corner of his eyes crinkled, and I was like an idiot, shaking to cry. He looked so devastatingly handsome like a prince charming in a fairytale story. He showed off his perfect white teeth as his lips spread into a full-blown smile. There was no more pain clouding in those eyes other than filled with its inner glow.
Then his smile was gone, replacing with panic. “Hey, why are you crying?” He quickly wiped my tears off. “I’m not gonna die.”
“Silly.” I hit his hands off, feeling my face heat. In my heart, I knew this was not just my hormones or whatever triggering my emotions. I became so emotionally attached to Forrest in just a short time, and I should be scared right now. To my surprise, I wasn’t.
“That’s not the reason why I am crying,” I said between laughs. “Gosh, I can’t believe you made me cry.”
“Then what is it? Why are you crying, Megan?”
“For the first time, I saw you smile. You smiled at me, you, silly.”
He beamed. His brow arched. “Oh, ss that so?”
“Uh-huh, and you should do that more often. You look different. Gorgeous like almost surreal, but you still look hot though even if you look a lot more intimidating.”
He leaned down to give me a soft fluttery kiss on my lips. “You are gorgeous, Megan. Remarkable. Please, stop crying. I have reasons to smile. My misery is almost over, and you are here with me to make me smile, happy, and make me feel hopeful.”
I faked a satisfied breath. “If I have known I am the only reason to make you smile, I should have done what I was supposed to do a long time ago. Why haven’t you said the magic word?”
“Are you fishing, Megan?” He laughed. His voice was rich and contagious.
I laughed with him. “Kidding. Just, please take care.”
“For you, I will.” He kissed me again. This time it was low and deep, and I felt we were pouring our souls into our kiss.
