Dance

By the time they had finalized all the details, they were all slightly tipsy. Rosaline called home and said she would crash at Tessa’s. Since Tessa had lived alone since her Grammy’s death, she would often crash at her place, so it was rather normal.

Exhausted and drunk, Tessa decided to party. She went to the common dance floor below and started to dance like there was no tomorrow.

Tris had run into her classmates and was still there, so she caught up with Tessa. They looked like a pair rather than two girls dancing, so no one bothered them either.

“You don’t want to dance,” William asked Rosaline who was looking at Tessa from their private box.

“Can’t. Two left feet.” Rosaline replied honestly.

“Let me help.” William offered and dragged her to the private dance floor on the open rooftop without waiting for her reply.

As it happened, Rosaline was telling the truth and ended up stepping on his feet a little too frequently.

William took a deep breath and pulled her flush against his body. He had her step on his feet, and slowly guided her to the music.

Rosaline could not stand straight on his feet, so she could only support herself on his body with her hands tightly wrapped around his neck. His hands were on her waist ensuring she did not retreat or fall down. They moved like one with the music with William leading her throughout.

Rosaline was intoxicated, not just with wine, but the temperature of his palms around her waist, the sturdiness of his body against hers, the feel of his neck and hair on her palms, his heartbeat against hers. William bowed his head and smelt her hair and kissed the top of her head. Rosaline shuddered at the intimate action.

Rosaline closed her eyes and put her ears against his heart as he continued to lead her to the music intimately.

Sensing the changes in his body, William composed himself, before he did anything inappropriate. He kissed her on her shoulder and raised his head, rested his chin on her head as he continued to move to the music, but tightened his arms around her.

When the dance ended, they parted reluctantly, eyes blurry with desire.

“Let’s find Miss Johnson, shall we?” William asked.

“Okay. Give me a minute, I’ll be right back.” Rosaline said as she dashed off to the washroom.

When they both came to the open dance floor, they saw Tessa and Tris dancing rather intimately. They looked like a gorgeous couple, while others looked at them every now and then with envy and bashfulness.

As soon as Tris saw Rosaline, she screamed, “Rosy darling! Come dance with me!!” in a rather sultry and coquettish voice making Rosaline’s jaw drop.

Speechless, she looked at William who was looking at her with interest. Trying to explain, she stammered, “That’s not… I. It’s not what it sounds like.”

“And what do you think it sounds like?” William teased as he leaned towards her biting his lower lips.

Rosaline looked away and took a deep breath to keep her sanity. “Let’s go join them.”

“I’d rather just dance with you,” William murmured in her ear while holding her hands and leading her to Tessa and Tris.
