BENJAMIN’S P. O. V.
I ran as quickly as I could. All I could think the whole way there is, “She can’t die, she just can’t.” I don’t speak to anyone. I can tell that there are others following me but I don’t care who they are or what they want. All I can think about is getting her help.
When I run into the hospital I start screaming at the nurses. “She needs help, she needs help now.” They come running at me seeing all the blood there is no doubt in their minds that she needs help. They start pulling her out of my hands.
“Beta you need to let go, we can’t help if you don’t let go.” Only now do I realize that I am not letting go of her. I am clinging to her for dear life. I released her to the nurses.
“Beta, can you tell us what happened?”
“She was kidnapped, we think she was injected with wolfs-bane and she was stabbed with a hunter’s knife.” I am stunned that I am even able to make words at this point.
“Ok so we are looking at extreme wolfs-bane poisoning. We can take it from here. You and the Alphas can wait out here.” The nurse headed behind the big metal door that they had pulled Olivia through.
I just stood there in shock. I don’t know what to do. I can’t do anything, but wait. This is not something that I can do easily. I want to punch something. I want to kill something. All that is left is to wait. We already killed Hector. I still don’t feel relieved.
I look back at Peter and Victor. They look as lost as me. I can’t understand how we can all be so in love with the same woman. But I see it in their faces as well as mine. I look at Peter and Victor and sigh, I guide them over to sit down. We all sit and stare at the ground for a time.
Victor looks at us. “You love her too, don’t you?”
“I feel lost without her. I don’t know what we could do. I don’t get how we can all love the same woman.” Peter looks to Victor. “Yeah, I love her. There is only so much that holds me back from claiming her.”
I answer too, “I love her more than anything. I almost feel like I love her more than the mate I had.”
“I know I love her more than the mate I had.” Victor snorts.
“Yeah, me too.” Peter smirks.
“What happened to yours?” Victor asks.
“She rejected me for another Alpha. Said I took too long to find her. It was only six months past my sixteenth birthday.” Peter answered. “And yours?”
“She tried to kill my father so she could be Luna faster. We were only together for like two weeks. She was bat-shit crazy.” Victor answers.
“I didn’t even get to know mine before she was killed right in front of me.” I look down. “I don’t know what I will do if she doesn’t make it. I can’t live through that again.”
“Don’t you think it’s crazy that we have all met our mates and something bad happened to them and now we are all in love with the same woman.” Peter looks around us. “I mean, what are the odds? She even had a tragic end with her mate. This doesn’t seem like a coincidence.”
“That’s because it isn’t.” A woman’s voice sounds from behind us. We all turn to look at her.
“What the hell are you talking about and who are you?” Victor looks at her skeptically.
“I am Elder Amelia. I have been keeping an eye on you all. I am not the only Elder who has. I am sure that you have talked to a couple of us about this. We have decided it was time to talk to you directly about this matter. It would seem that the rogue attacks are making things a little mixed up in the mate department.” She continues to stand, making me a bit nervous.
“What the hell does that mean?” Peter asks.
“It means that this is happening all over. It is always one to three. One female of course. It would seem that we are having a deficiency of she-wolves and nature or the goddess has decided that it was time to fix our problem. Your group is the only one with two Alphas though. It is quite unique. We are interested to see how this turns out. Because as you know Alphas don’t share.” She smiles at us, as if we are nothing more than amusement for her.
“How is the outcome of these so-called arrangements?” I ask, there has to be a way to end this.
“Well, there are two ways that this is resolved. So either the males are sharing the woman or the female needs to pick. It is really up to you guys how this ends. We will be watching to see how this works out. We are hoping that it all works out well in the end. No fighting, that is all that we are asking, there is enough loss going around right now. So, now is the time to discuss this.”
She turns and leaves with all of us staring after her.
“Can she please just be a kooky old broad?” Peter asks.
“Somehow I have a feeling that that isn’t the case.” I replied. “I mean we may not have noticed it with other people because of what is going on with us. It just seems odd that someone would suggest this to a bunch of wolves knowing how possessive we are and that we only mate once. Maybe she is right and something is all wrong with the mate bonds.”
“I am not so sure about sharing her.” Victor grunts.
“Yeah but if we don’t share her then we are going to have to make her choose. Are you ready to not be picked? To live your life without her.?” I look at him trying to make him see my point. I don’t see how I can do either myself. “I don’t know if I can live without her. I am not crazy about the idea of sharing her either.”
“Right now I think we should focus on her getting out of the hospital. I want to see her alive before we ask for any choices from her. Maybe she won’t want to share anyway. Then that option would be out the door.” Peter looks towards the doors again. Then we are all pulled back to the present situation. Olivia is in there fighting for her life and we are sitting out her bickering about who gets to be with her.
This is going to be a long night.
