Alicia:
I couldn’t sleep. All I kept thinking about was what Logan was going through right now. He must feel so alone. I wondered what his father had said to him, if Logan was ok, but he hadn’t texted me or phoned.
I was getting too worried, I looked at the clock it was almost midnight, but I had to call. I dialled his number and he picked up after the second ring.
“Hey Princess.” He answered.
“Hi, I’m sorry. I don’t mean to call so late, I just… I just can’t stop thinking about how you’re doing. Are you ok?” I asked my voice shaking a little.
There was a bit of a pause. “I’m fine Princess, don’t worry about me.” There was a bit of a sniffle on the phone.
“It doesn’t sound like you are fine Logan, do you want to talk about it?” I asked, desperately trying to get him to communicate with me.
“Yes and no. I want to tell you everything in my life the good and bad, but I also don’t want you involved in the bad.”
“Logan, I said I was by your side and I meant it, so talk to me.”
“He’s blackmailing me.” He said simply.
“What, how?” I asked “What do you have that he wants?”
“Money of course. My mom’s estate was left in trust to me when she died, and he wants it. For what I have no idea, and I don’t care. But he’s threatening everyone I love if I don’t give in.”
“Logan you can’t let him win.” I said, not exactly sure what else can be done about it. “Can’t we get the police involved, there’s gotta be something else that we can do.”
“I have no choice Princess I won’t put you or Maryanne in danger. I don’t even care about the money, I just want him out of my life.” He responded, sounding tired.
“Oh Logan, I’m sorry.” I just wanted to take all his pain away. I wish I was there with him so I could hold him.
“No I’m sorry for getting you involved in all this, I shouldn’t have brought you into my world.” He said sounding frustrated with himself.
“Well maybe if you kept on kissing Sarah in front of me you would have been able to get rid of me.” I said smirking on the phone.
Logan went silent then finally said, “I really hoped we wouldn’t have to talk about that.”
“No, lets talk about that Logan. Let’s talk about how the day after we first slept together and told each other I love you, you decided it would be a good idea to pretend you didn’t care about me and kiss your slimy ex girlfriend in front of me and the whole school.” I said really messing with him now.
“I.. ah.. it was just to keep you away from me… and this situation.” He stammered.
“I see, and you didn’t think that it might have been better to, oh I don’t know, just tell me the truth.” I carried on.
“Well ya maybe…”
“I’m not made of porcelain Logan, I don’t break easy, so it might be a good idea to remember that in the future.” I laid into him. “I have good mind not to see you for a couple of days because of this.”
“What! I thought we were going to meet up tomorrow? Drive to school together.” He said sounding sad.
I started giggling. “Well if your gonna be such a baby about it.”
“Oh I see, my life is in shambles so you decided to mess with me, I really should trade you in, your not very nice.” He said clearly pouting on the phone.
This just made me giggle more “Are you saying little old me upset the big strong Logan Saunders. King of the school.”
“Your unbelievable.” He said laughing a bit.
“Feel a little better?” I asked, happy that my distraction might have worked.
“I always feel better talking to you.”
“It will all be ok Logan, you’ll see.” I said now sounding serious.
“Yes I know, because you will be there. Now get some sleep, I’m going to pick you up tomorrow for school.”
“Ok, I love you.” I said softly.
“I love you too.” Then he hung up.
I hung up the phone not knowing what the future was going to bring us, but at least I knew he was safe for now. I went to sleep hoping to have sweet dreams of him, but I only had nightmares. Nightmares of him disappearing into a cloud of smoke, nightmares of him in a hospital bed, worst of all nightmares of him in a coffin.
I woke up the next day feeling very groggy, my hair was all over the place and I had dark circles under my eyes. I looked at myself in the mirror and thought what in the world does he see in me. I shook my head and began to try to smooth out my hair. I wasn’t one to wear makeup but I applied a little today since I seem to look like the walking dead.
Once I was dressed and ready I went downstairs to grab something to eat before Logan got there and there were my parents sitting at the table like always.
“Hi sweetie want something to eat?” Mom asked already cooking me something.
“Yes please, I couldn’t sleep at all last night.” I responded.
Mom placed a couple of eggs and bacon on a plate and put it in front of me. I dove right in famished. It was kind of nice to be sitting around the table like I always used to when things were normal for me, only this time I wished Logan was here too, I was definitely ready to fully introduce him to my family and make him apart of my life. I had already decided that before things got complicated.
Just as I was almost done my meal my dad’s cell phone rang in his pocket interrupting my train of thought. He picked it up and you could already hear Jess’s voice on the phone.
“Hi it’s Jess is Alicia there, her phone wouldn’t pick up. It must be off or something.”
I looked down at my phone and sure enough it had died, I must have kept it off the charger last night.
“Ah sure Jess she’s right here.” He handed me the phone, and for some reason my heart began to race. I somehow knew that this was not going to be another regular phone call.
“Hi Jess what’s up?” I asked trying not to sound panicked.
“Alicia, somethings going on with Logan, that nanny you were telling me about called my number, I guess it was on Logan’s phone because she couldn’t get ahold of you and I’ve been trying to get ahold of you all morning.” She said very quickly.
“What’s going on with Logan Jess?” I started to tear up now, unable to stop it.
“He’s in the hospital, I’m not sure of the situation but she said it’s important that you go there.”
I instantly dropped the phone, and thought this is it, my nightmares are all coming true. I needed to get to the hospital now. You are not leaving me Logan.
