The pounding on the door continued well we all stood there frozen. Finally Maryanne began to move towards the door.
“What are you doing?” I stopped her.
“I’ll get rid of him.” She simply stated.
“No, I’ll deal with him, he’s not your problem.” I protested.
“That man there does not scare me, on the contrary he should be afraid of me.”
“Maryanne we both know he will not let up until he gets what he wants, and right now he wants to talk with me. Let me deal with him.” She finally stood back from the door, and I stepped forward.
I opened the door to see the man who made my life a living hell. He had a big grin on his face seeing that he got what he wanted.
“Well aren’t you going to ask me in?” He enquired when nothing was said.
“No.” I simply stated while vibrating with the anger I felt just looking at his face.
“Ok then well we need to talk shall we go back to the house.” He suggested.
“Coffee shop down the street in ten minutes.” I said while slamming the door in his face. It seemed like the less likely place I would kill him.
Alicia walked up to me and wrapped her arms around my waist. “Do you think thats a good idea Logan, meeting with him?”
“I have to finish this one way or another, that man is not going to be apart of our lives if it’s the last thing I do.” I finished while kissing the top of her head. “Are you going home, or are you staying here for the night?” I asked.
“Unfortunately going home, have the parents car remember.” She smiled. “You wanted me to stay here?”
“Of course I do, I want you with me all the time.” I kissed her on her cheek.
“Ok thats enough of this mushy stuff.” Maryanne said while smiling and rolling her eyes. “I have to relax in my room now after all that drama, Logan see that your girlfriend gets home safe, and you don’t trust a word that comes out of that mans mouth, and be careful, I’ll be waiting up.”
With that Maryanne went into her room. Alicia and I gathered up our clothes we put in the dryer earlier and got dressed. I followed her home to make sure she got there ok and just before she went into her house she ran up to my car and grabbed my face and kissed me through the window.
“Stay strong, I love you.” She said while rubbing my face with her hand. Then she turned and ran into the house, while I watched her and smiled.
I drove to the coffee shop and sat in the car staring through the window, watching him. Watching him order his coffee, watching him flirt with the waitress, watching him check the time. He made me angry just looking at him, the pain he has caused me is almost unbearable and I will never trust him again. That is really all I came here to say to him, that and to stay out of my life.
I finally got out of the car and slowly walked into the building. The same waitress came up to me and asked if I needed to be seated, she of course gave me a cutesy smile intent on flirting with me, but I wasn’t the least bit interested and I just said “no thank you I’m meeting someone” and I nodded my head over to my fathers table.
I walked up fully intent on keeping things calm, especially within myself. I couldn’t let him get to me. I sat across from him not looking up, while the waitress came up soon after.
“Can I get you something to drink?” She asked yet again attempting to give me eyes.
“No thank you, I’m not staying long.” I replied in a less then polite manner.
“Ok, let me know if you change your mind.” She walked away sounding upset.
“Son, why weren’t you being nice to the waitress, she’s pretty good looking?” He asked with a smirk.
“Who I’m nice to is none of your business, and don’t call me son.” I replied, already annoyed by his presence.
“Logan, I don’t know why you are acting this way, I was just as upset about your mothers death as you were.” He said trying to sound innocent.
“Ya you seem really broken up about it.” I scoffed.
“Look, I was very upset, but I have moved on and learned to carry on without her, something you should be doing yourself.”
“Oh, I have learned to live without her, I have moved on with my life, ignoring that I will never see her again, ignoring the nightmares of my mother getting slaughtered before my eyes, and ignoring the fact that my father was the one who put her in that position in the first place. Now why don’t you cut the shit and tell me what it is you want from me.” I was on the brink, so it was best that he get on with it before I beat the living crap out of him right here in this diner.
“Ok Logan, I will cut to the chase. The estate is all in your name under trust, I need you to sign it over to me or else I have nothing.”
My mouth gaped open unable to respond, was he seriously asking me for money? After everything he did, he wants me to hand everything over. I almost had to laugh.
“You have money in your name.” I stated finally after a bit of confusion.
“No I lost it all through bad deals just before I went to prison. The only money that was left was your mothers estate which she put fully under your name.” He revealed trying to seem like he had just fallen on hard times.
“Were they the same deals that got my mother killed.” I seethed.
“Yes.”
“What makes you think I would do that, you’re out of your mind, stay out of my life, and get the hell out of my house.” I finally had had enough, I stood up and began to walk out.
“Logan I wouldn’t want to have to go back into a life of crime. That might fall upon those close to me, and those close to you..” He called out causing me to pause mid-step. When he noticed that I stopped he continued in a sly voice. “I noticed something tonight before I was headed to bed, some car headlights just outside my door. I took a look to see who it was and there you were with a beautiful young lady, it all looked very serious so I didn’t want to interrupt. Does this young lady mean something to you Logan?”
I stood there with anger taking over my entire body, this was exactly what I was trying to prevent. My father getting his slimy hands on the one good thing in my life.
Finally I lost all my strength. “You’ll get your money.” I simply stated.
He stood from the table grabbing his hat and placing it on his head while walking past me. “Good boy.”
