Chapter 17 Double Standards

Book:Now You See Me Published:2024-5-1

Jess and I pulled up to the party that was already underway. I decided to tell Logan that I would see him there because Jess wanted to meet up before hand to of course, dress me. She had me in this tight lacy white baby doll dress that showed A LOT of cleavage.
“Seriously Jess this is ridiculous I have to stop letting you do this. I look like a complete slut.” I said, once again angry at my friend. “Why do I let you do this.”
She smiled. “Because you love and trust me of course.”
I narrowed my eyes at her. “Love, absolutely. Trust, it’s wavering.”
She laughed at me as I hunched over trying to hide myself in the car.
“Come on, you have a boyfriend now. A very hot one I might add, so you are dressing up for him.” She replied getting out of the car and waving at me to follow.
I reluctantly got out of the car and tried my best to be confident while walking up to the party. I have to say things did seem very different now. Besides the fact that I still felt completely uncomfortable in these outfits Jess keeps dressing me up in, I’m not feeling as nervous about the party in general. I genuinely want to go, find my mouthwateringly handsome boyfriend and have a good time.
We walked in and all eyes were on us immediately. I smiled, embarrassingly, while Jess just relished in the attention.
“Look there’s your guy right there, I’ll catch you later gonna go talk with some peeps. Love ya.” She quickly said and she was off.
I looked over to where she was pointing and sure enough there was Logan staring at me like everyone else was, only he didn’t look all too happy.
My expression turned to confusion as he marched over to me quite serious.
“What are you doing?” He whispered at me while guiding me into another room.
“What do you mean what am I doing? I’m here for the party.” I stated aggravated once we were out of the main area. “That you asked me to be at.”
“Dressed in that, do you realize that every guy in this room wants to jump you right now.”
I giggled at his obvious jealousy.
“It’s not funny Alicia.” He said looking very serious.
“Oh so it’s Alicia now, not Princess.” I said pouting and fluttering my lashes at him.
He fought a smile and lost, instead of a response he grabbed me and put me in a giant bear hug.
“Ah.. Logan.. I can’t breath.” I managed to say as his gigantic biceps strangled my tiny frame.
“Well your going to have to get used to it, cause this is how we will be until this party is over.” He said really not sounding like he was joking.
“Logan.” I said in a stern voice. He ignored me “Logan.” I repeated muffled by his shirt. Again nothing. I began to laugh “Ok you win! Would you be happier if I wore a cardigan or something over top?”
He backed up a little narrowing his eyes. “Do you have one?”
“Yes of course it’s in Jess’s car. I brought it because I didn’t even want to show this much skin but Jess wouldn’t let me wear it.” He released me. “Are you sure you don’t want to shield me on the way to the car?”
He rolled his eyes at me,”Don’t tempt me just cover up. Until later.” He added with a mischievous grin.
I shook my head and left the room to go retrieve my sweater. Normally I wouldn’t be ok with a man telling me how to dress, but it was kind of cute how Logan didn’t want me to be seen this way by other men, and I am more then happy to have an excuse to tell Jess why I covered up her hard work.
I went into Jess’s car and found the sweater and swiftly threw it over my arms, I was beginning to get a little cold anyhow. I walked back into the house and was instantly greeted with the image of Sarah starting to lean into Logan like she was about to devour him deep in the corner where they might have thought they wouldn’t be seen.
I could visibly see him stiffen up the moment she leaned in, but it didn’t matter to me, I marched right over to them clearing my throat to make my presents known.
Logan instantly grabbed her shoulders and pushed her away, she however, just slowly turned her head to greet me with a smug smile on her face.
“Oh hi Alicia, we didn’t see you there.” She faked “We were just discussing some personal stuff that Logan had to get off his chest, you know how it is when you’ve been with someone a long while, your just looking for that familiar… comfort.” She finished with a sly smile.
“I think he’s had just about enough comfort for today don’t you think.” I shot at her.
She kept on smiling and carried on walking away. My attention was brought to him still frozen in place looking shell shocked. My eyes narrowed and I sadly shook my head not saying anything and turned and walked away from him, throwing the cardigan I had on the floor as I walked away.
He finally found the will to move and grabbed the sweater from the floor and began to follow.
“Princess.” He called to me while walking behind me. “Princess it’s not what it looked like.”
I continued to walk to the dance floor ignoring him. “Princess right before you walked up to us she was literally just annoying me with the same crap she’s always throwing at me. I was just about to tell her to take off.”
I turned around quickly in the middle of the dance floor causing him to stop abruptly. “That’s fine Logan, it’s not like I seen you kissing her or anything.” I said matter of factly.
He looked at me suspiciously. “Right, so… you want to put your sweater back on?”
I looked down at the sweater then back up at his puppy dog face with a sweet smile saying simply “Nope.”
Then turned around and carried walking away passed the dance floor “Ah, I thought that you were fine covering up like we had discussed? You didn’t want to show as much skin” He said clearly confused with the new turn of events.
“Sure, but now I’m not. I feel perfectly comfortable now being leared at and wanted by other men. It’s not like I’m doing anything with them, right? I can’t help it if they are looking at me.” I explained while I got myself a drink.
“I see that you are mad.” He said beside me.
“I’m not mad Logan, I’m just simply saying that why should I cover up and hide away when my boyfriend clearly is gawked at and constantly wanted by other girls. A bit of a double standard don’t you think?” I questioned him.
“I guess so.” He said looking sad. “I just don’t want anyone trying anything at this party.”
I softened up a little and grabbed his hand. “Well then, I guess you better stick close by.” He looked up and I winked.
“You bet I will.” He responded with a bit of a smile, then came around and hugged me from behind while I drank my beer.
This was not the way I wanted the night to go. I knew, although I didn’t say anything to Logan, that there was something else that was bothering me and it didn’t have anything to do with Sarah’s constant drooling over my boyfriend. It was what Sarah had said, yet again she was reminding me of what Logan has revealed to her about his families past, and I was growing impatient with him not trusting me enough to tell me what was going on.
I can only hope he will trust me soon, but I pushed those thoughts deep in the back of my mind and I leaned in to his muscular frame behind me and attempted to have a good time.
