Logan:
Alicia wiped the tears streaming down her face, trying to catch her breath from laughing so hard. Much to my dismay Maryanne started to go on a storytelling spree about all my antics as a child up until now.
I didn’t think it was so funny. “Come on it’s really not that funny.” I complained at both of them as they went on laughing about how I used to run around the house in just a cape and my tighty whiteys.
“I’m sorry.” Alicia said huffing. “I just can’t stop picturing it.”
“I was very active as a kid.” I stated, “and what kid didn’t want to be a superhero when they got older.”
“Then there was the time when he decided to be a chef for a day and make pancakes for the whole family.” She went on.
Ok I gotta put a stop to this. “Alright, alright. You guys have had your fun. Alicia and I are gonna go once I clean up here.”
“You can leave it dear, I have it.”
“Are you sure?” I asked.
“Yes of course, what am I even here for, go have your fun.” She said shooing us away.
“Ok thank you, there’s a party later I’ll be going to as well just so you know.”
“Ok hun I stick around make sure you get home safe.”
“You don’t have to do that.” I said rolling my eyes.
“Oh yes I do, I promised your mom I would keep you safe so I’m going to do just that, and your going to come home at a decent hour too.”
I smiled “Yes ma’am.”
She nodded her head and carried on cleaning up the kitchen.
Alicia and I returned to my bedroom to get freshened up. she grabbed her clothes she had on yesterday and headed towards the shower. She suddenly turned to me before going into the bathroom.
“She’s really great you know that.” She said with that beautiful smile.
I nodded my head. “Ya, she’s pretty special.”
She nodded in response and headed into the bathroom.
It wasn’t lost on me that the two most important people in my life right now get along so well, and I was very happy about it. Maryanne has been such a huge part of my life and I just wasn’t sure how everything would go. Although I’m not surprised, both of them are wonderful souls and most of all know how to put me in my place.
There were a couple reason’s why I wanted the story telling to stop. For one they were both having too much fun at my expense, and the other being most stories involved my mother and my father, a topic I am just not interested in talking about to anyone. Maryanne of course knew every aspect of my life, but Alicia, she doesn’t need to be involved in this. She doesn’t need to know all the terrible things we have endured behind these walls. She doesn’t need to know what haunts me day and night.
I heard the shower turn off and a few minutes went by until she stepped out of the bathroom all dressed towel drying her now wet hair.
“Here.” I said while grabbing the towel from her hands. I led her to the chair in the corner and continued to dry her hair.
“I was just going to braid it rather then dry it completely.” She said.
“I can do that.” I told her while I grabbed the hair elastics from her wrist.
“You can?” She sounded astonished.
“I used to do it for my mother all the time, I had a thing about hair as a kid.” I smirked and expertly braided her hair back and forth.
“Why Logan Saunders you are full of surprises. It’s not very manly though, braiding hair.” She stated with a wicked grin.
“Would you like me to show you how manly I can be.” I shot back in a sultry tone.
I could see her narrowing her eyes at me in the mirror, clearly thinking about it. Then she shook her head. “Nope, we gotta go. I have to go home so my parents know I’m not dead and meet Jess to tell her about the party.”
I pouted while finishing the last of her braid and I leaned over and gave her a kiss on the neck. “All done.”
She smiled and grabbed her bag from the floor.
Alicia
Slowly (very slowly), Logan is opening up to me. I just don’t know if he will ever be willing to tell me everything. He seems to be ok with telling me small details about his mom, and boy are they the most beautiful memories, I see why it pains him to remember her. But a darkness falls over him at the mention of his father and I don’t know if Logan will ever feel like he trusts me enough to let me in to the bad as well as the good, because I know it’s hurting him.
I made my way into the foyer to wait for Logan, who needed to do a few things before we left. Maryanne was there doing some dusting of the various statues and family heirlooms. She has to be one of the cutest woman I have ever met and she’s so good to Logan.
“Hi Maryanne.” I said while coming down the stairs.
“Oh hi hun, I thought you guys had left.” She said surprised to see me.
“No we needed to freshen up first.” I said simply. “Logan is just finishing up something so I just thought I would wait down here.”
“Thats fine hun, do you want something to drink while you wait?” She asked putting down her duster.
“Oh no Maryanne, that’s fine, don’t let me bother you, Logan should be down soon.” I said stopping her.
“Ok.” Then she just stood there and looked at me, almost examining me. “You know, you are really good for Logan I can see that.”
I blushed and laughed a little. “It doesn’t seem like I make that much of a difference in him actually.”
“Oh you do, he’s been smiling a lot more for instance. Since the day he met you I believe.” She said matter of factly.
“You know about that?” I asked a little embarrassed by the encounter.
“Oh dear he tells me everything important in his life, and I know all about you. I know that you have given him a run for his money, rightly so. I know that you stand up for what you believe in and don’t take any crap from anyone, and I know that that boy up there has never liked a girl.. the way he likes you.” She said a little emotional.
I looked down at my fingers playing with the hem of my shirt. “I’m sure he has felt that way about a lot of the girls that he’s been with.”
“I wouldn’t know.” She said in response.
I looked up confused. “Why is that, I thought he tells you everything.”
“Everything important.” She made the distinction, “and you are the first one he has ever told me about, and has ever brought home to meet me.”
She picked up her duster once again “You have fun today dear, and please just have patience with him, he’s been through a lot.” She finished with a sad look on her face and left the room.
Logan came down the stairs a minute later. “You ready?” He asked grabbing my bag from my arms.
I smiled and nodded yes following him out the door. I guess there is reason to give this a chance.
