Krista’s POV
I stormed back to the ward, and just entered the door, my mobile phone vibrated.
When I saw it was Cheney, I immediately picked it up. “Hello?”
On the other end of the phone, Cheney only said a few words, which made me stop.
“Krista, Uncle Jacob is dead.”
In Cheney’s voice, there was sadness and loss.
“How did it happen?” I’m a little surprised.
“He was in his room. After eating with Flora, he took a lot of cyanide and committed suicide. The people who monitored his room found him. When we arrived, he… had already died. Only a suicide note was left.”
I sat on the sofa and reached out to caress my forehead.
I didn’t want Jacob to die, I just wanted him to proceed in the fairest way of the law.
But why did Jacob kill himself?
“Krista.”
“Hmm?”
“Grandma called me. I have to go back to the Fischer’s mansion. You… Please don’t go.”
I gave a soft “Hmm.”
“Don’t think about it.”
“Okay.”
I hung up the phone and couldn’t tell what it was like.
Less than five minutes later, Rashad’s voice came from the door again, “Krista, Uncle Jacob is gone.”
I just stood there in silence.
He sighed, “Uncle Jacob has worked in the Fischer’s mansion all his life. In my opinion, he is respectful to Grandma and Grandpa, he helped the Fischer family raise uncle Cheney and Afra very well. He may be wrong, but… now that he is gone, can you forgive him?”
I covered my ears with my hands.
Rashad is obviously blaming me for this.
I’m afraid everyone will think that I insisted on treating Jacob’s crime and killed him with conscience.
However, it’s not me who did the wrong thing.
Cheney’s POV
Back at the Fischer’s mansion, I went straight to Uncle Jacob’s residence.
Grandma and grandpa are here.
Grandpa left two people to deal with the aftermath, and the rest were all evacuated.
Grandma came forward, took my hand, and almost cried “Cheney.”
“Why are you out here?”
Grandma said helplessly, “Flora is alone inside. She kicked everyone out and locked the door.”
Grandpa looked at me. “Flora must be sad, but things have to be dealt with.”
I went to the door and knocked. “Flora, open the door.”
Flora’s POV
Hearing Cheney’s voice, I raised my eyes and looked in the direction of the door, with rage in my eyes.
I bent slightly and hugged my father’s body more tightly.
Cheney said, “Flora, open the door right now.”
I closed my eyes, pressed my lips to my father’s ear, and whispered, “Dad, I will never let you die in vain. I know you must be willing to die for me. Don’t worry, I won’t make the Fischer family live a better life!”
Cheney’s POV
Hearing that there has been no movement inside, I told the servant waiting on the side, “Go find a spare key to open the door.”
Not long after, Rashad came back.
I was somewhat surprised to see him. Isn’t he abroad?
He came up to me and said, “How’s it going?”
“Flora is inside and won’t open the door.”
Rashad slapped the door hard. “Flora, it’s Rashad, please open the door.”
Just then, the servant brought the spare key.
I opened the door with a key.
They entered the room.
Flora is kneeling on the ground, holding Jacob’s body and shouting to those who come in, “Don’t come here, my father is not dead, my father is not dead, he is not dead.”
She screamed, “He’s just asleep. He’s sleepy. He’s… he’s just asleep. He needs all of you to be quiet . Please all of you, get out. Get out at once.”
Grandpa looked at Jacob’s body, shook his head in heartache, turned and walked out trembling.
Rashad slowly stepped forward and squatted in front of Flora. “Flora, come on, how sad Uncle Jacob will be if you do this.”
“Why is my father sad? He just fell asleep.”
“Uncle Jacob is gone.”
Flora sobbed and buried her head in Jacob’s arms, “It’s all my fault, Dad, if I hadn’t been your daughter, you wouldn’t bear this. I hurt you. I am a funeral star, a pest, and all the people I love have left me. I only have you. Didn’t you promise me that you would accompany me forever? But why did you lie to me, why did you leave me, what should I do now, Dad…”
I breathed, and my heart seemed to have some blunt instrument beating me a few times.
I turned my head and saw a piece of stationery on the bedside, so I stepped over and picked up the stationery.
To the family I love
I grew up in an orphanage since I was a child. Thanks to the grace of my father, I became a student supported by the Fischer family, and rose to the top. After several years of struggles in the Fischer group, my father did not give up and left me with me. This stay is half my life.
As soon as I read the resentment, I made a mistake and committed an unforgivable sin, which embarrassed my young master and humiliated my daughter.
Today, watching Flora kneel for me at the door of the Plum Court, I feel heartbroken, but I also understand the dilemma of my father, old lady and young master.
It is my fault that I did something wrong and let my daughter suffer so much for me.
A man like me, who can kill his benefactor’s children, is really unworthy to stay in the world.
Today, I take responsibility for my actions.
I poisoned Master Romeo, and now I punished myself in the same way.
In this way, Flora won’t have to suffer so much for taking responsibility for me, the old man and the old lady won’t have to be sad because of me, and the young master won’t have to be caught between me and Mrs. Fischer.
This is the best solution I can think of.
Flora, in the future, Dad can no longer take care of you. In this world, you have no relatives anymore. You must be strong. For the rest of your life, you should take good care of yourself and don’t let Dad worry under the grave.
Father, old lady, you are the most important people to me in this half of my life.
It’s my fault that I can’t die for your old age after receiving so many favors from you.
In this life, I am one step ahead. Please take good care of Flora for me. If there is an afterlife, I will be a cow and a horse to repay the kindness I owe you.
Ungrateful Jacob.
After reading the letter, all I could hear in my ears was Flora’s heartbreaking cries.
I looked at the remains of Uncle Jacob with a sigh of annoyance.
Uncle Jacob, you are really too cruel to make you bear legal responsibility. Is it really more terrible than death?
In his ear, Flora roared like crazy, “Don’t touch me, no one can separate me from my father.”
She looked at me with hate in her eyes.
“Cheney, now, are you satisfied with Krista?”
I clenched my fist slightly. “This matter has nothing to do with Krista.”
“Yeah, it’s my fault, I shouldn’t, shouldn’t…”
As she spoke, her eyes sank and she fainted after spitting out the words “have fell in love with you”.
Fortunately, Rashad stood beside her and held her directly.
Rashad looked up at me.
I waved my hand. “Take her to the hospital.”
Rashad lifted Flora sideways and left Uncle Jacob’s room.
I ordered the two men who had been waiting behind me, “Help Uncle Jacob change his clothes.”
As I finished saying those, I took grandpa and grandma out of the room.
I handed the letter to Grandpa. “This was left by Uncle Jacob.”
“Your grandmother and I don’t wear glasses, you can read it.”
When I finished reading the letter, Grandma couldn’t help wiping her tears away.
Grandpa snorted and said to Grandma, “Why are you crying? This kind of person who can’t afford this thing is not worth crying for.”
As he said that, his hands are behind his back, lonely to leave.
I looked at Grandma and said, “Grandma, you can go back, too. I’ll take care of Uncle Jacob’s funeral.”
Grandma nodded and took my hand. “Cheney, you said… if we could have forgiven Jacob, would he have…”
“Grandma, don’t always say these hypothetical words. This is not a problem we didn’t forgive. It is a crime.”
After comforting Grandma, I went back to the hospital. Now only Krista and our child can calm me down.
