I pointed in the direction of the door. “Now, I’m going to start working. You can go out.”
She turned, walked to the door, and then turned again. “Mr. Cheney, do you like Krista?”
This question was easy to answer, but it left me dazed.
I immediately said, “Of course, Krista is excellent, and no man will not like it.”
She was silent, opened the door, and left. I leaned to my desk, picked up my pen, and opened my papers.
But right now, the question of Gia earlier was occupying my head. Do I like Krista? Yes, I like her. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be angry because other men approached her, and I wouldn’t be upset because she always asked for a divorce.
It rained all afternoon, and when I was done with a bundle of work on my desk, I called Krista to take her home with me.
When I met her in the basement, she got into my car and stretched herself. “I don’t have to go to the construction site. I feel that my whole person seems useless. Please, let’s go home.”
I raised my lips. “God gave you a holiday for me. Don’t you have anything to do?”
She shrugged. “I want to go home and sleep. I am very sleepy.”
I gave her an ambiguous smile, “This idea is good, then go home, and we sleep together.”
“When I say sleep, I mean sleeping with my eyes closed.”
I saw her, “I really don’t think so simply. Since we went home together, it’s good for everyone to cooperate with each other, isn’t it?”
“Okay.” She gathered her clothes. “I’m not sleeping, and I’m not sleepy.”
It’s not her call.
Not far from the company, my cell phone rang. I looked at my phone, and it’s Uncle Jacob. I just put it on speakerphone and picked up “Uncle Jacob.”
“Young master, are you busy now? Can you come to the hospital? Flora’s condition… is not very good.”
“Okay, I’ll be right there.”
When I finished talking, I looked sideways at Krista and parked the car on the side of the road. After unfastening my seat belt, I woke her up. “I’ll take a taxi to the hospital. You can drive home first. I will go home as soon as possible after I finish my visit at the hospital.”
She took my arm and opened her mouth. “Let’s go together.”
I looked at her, a little surprised at what she said.
She thought about it and then asked, “Can I come with you?”
I didn’t say anything, just fastened my seat belt again, started the car, and left. Arriving at the hospital, Uncle Jacob waited at the door. Seeing Krista coming with me, Uncle Jacob was somewhat surprised. “Mrs. Fischer, there you are.”
Krista nodded to him.
I looked up at Uncle Jacob. “I was just with Krista, and I stopped by. Why are you out there?”
“The doctor is inside to rescue.”
I frowned. “Is something wrong?”
“Just…” Uncle Jacob wanted to say something but gave Krista an intentional look.
Krista smiled. “Do you want me to avoid it?”
I grabbed her and said to Uncle Jacob, “Uncle Jacob, Krista is not an outsider, just say it.”
“I thought to tell Flora indirectly that you are married and ask her what she plans to do if you are married. I didn’t expect her to react to my question like having shortness of breath. She’s having a hard time coping up with my question. I was busy finding a doctor. The doctor examined Flora, and I was kicked out from the room.” He sighed.
A seconds after, he added. “I don’t know how this happened. My child is scared of my question.”
I sank, and Krista stood aside silently. After ten minutes, the doctor came out. He said to Jacob, “Mr. Jacob, I told you about Miss Flora’s current situation before. You can’t stimulate her now. If you have anything to say, just wait for her to recover and then tell her. She finally woke up. Don’t say something that stimulates her on impulse, causing irreparable consequences.”
Jacob apologized quickly. “I’m sorry, I’m really sorry, doctor. I was careless just now.”
The doctor nodded and said, “If something happens to Miss Flora, you must be sadder than us. We are talking about this now, just hoping that the family can avoid the risks. She is awake now. Go inside and remember, don’t stimulate her.”
He nodded respectfully to me and left first.
Uncle Jacob looked at me, and Krista. “Mrs. Fischer, I’m really sorry. Can you not go in today? When after Flora’s physical recovery will almost complete, I must introduce you, Okay? Mr. Cheney, please, can you cooperate with me for a while?”
Krista stepped back, nodded, and smiled. “You guys go inside, I’ll wait at the door for a while.”
I touched her head. “I’ll be out in a minute.”
She sipped her lips. “It’s not urgent.”
I entered the ward, and Flora saw me with slight tension on her face. “Cheney.”
She raised her hand at me hard. I stepped forward and took her hand. “What just happened, you scared Uncle Jacob, okay?”
She looked at Jacob and said, “Dad, I’m sorry.”
Jacob stepped forward with red eyes and took her other hand. “Flora, it’s dad’s fault. Dad shouldn’t talk about this matter to you.”
“It’s not your fault, Dad. Don’t blame yourself,” Flora said, without saying much. “It’s me. I made bad associations.”
Jacob nodded. “Dad won’t talk nonsense in the future.”
Flora looked at me affectionately. “Cheney, can you hold me?”
I hesitated and didn’t move. Flora breathed heavily, her eyebrows frowned together, and Uncle Jacob looked at me hopefully.
I bent slightly and hugged her gently. “Don’t entertain foolish ideas, take good care of your illness. Grandma has ordered people to tidy up your room, and everyone is waiting for you to go home.”
“I will.” She nodded.
“Take a rest, don’t be too tired.”
“Can you stay here with me?”
I smiled. “Okay.”
She took my hand and slowly closed her eyes. Uncle Jacob takes a step back and walks aside to accompany him. After more than ten minutes, I felt her holding my hand loose. I thought she was asleep and wanted to take out her hand, but she held it tightly again.
I looked back in the direction of the ward door. Uncle Jacob stepped forward and said, “Young master, go back, I’ll just be here.”
“Dad, I want Cheney to stay with me for a while.”
I winked at Uncle Jacob, and he stepped back.
