Krista’s POV
On the side, the servant came over and respectfully handed me a mobile phone. “Madam, your mobile phone is vibrating.”
I looked sideways and saw that the number above said ‘Mom’. Now I really don’t want to hear her voice or think of this person. I looked cold and said, “Hang up.”
“Yes.” The servant walked away.
I bowed my head and drank a mouthful of milk, and my heart was full of waves. After drinking the milk, I turned to look at the servant beside me. “Excuse me, you should go to work first. I have something to say to Cheney alone.”
As the servants left, Cheney put down his chopsticks and looked at me with his arms. “I guess you were going to ask me about your father, right?”
I smiled and nodded. “I think it’s really worry-free to talk to smart people.”
“This has nothing to do with cleverness, but I have lived with you for a long time. I can still see through your little thoughts.”
I bent my mouth. “That is, I am too simple.
“You? You are not only a simple-minded person but an intelligent woman.”
I don’t know who it is. I was still saying I was stupid a few days ago. “Is it true?”
“Yes, I hold grudges.” He gave me a chuckle look.
I looked a little serious. “So… Can you tell me now, how do you know that I’m investigating my father? You investigated me.”
“It was you who revealed the flaw and made me have to check it.”
“A flaw?” I recalled it carefully, but I couldn’t think of when I made a mistake in front of him
“When have I ever made a flaw?”
He looked at me, snorted, and said, “You have miscalculated men’s maintenance of their women’s ownership.”
I was confused and didn’t understand.
“Andrew,” he said calmly, “your flaw is Andrew.”
“Andrew? How come.”
“That day, I accidentally saw your information. What are you asking him to look into? As my woman, I find someone else to look into things, which makes me feel very uncomfortable. So, I sent someone to look into Andrew’s movements and found out that he was helping you investigate the source of huge sums of money in your father’s bank account. You are wondering if this matter has something to do with the Fischer group or me, right?”
I was surprised, “Is that why you guessed?”
“It’s not a guess, it’s a conclusion.”
“Why?” I don’t know where he got his confidence.
“I can easily do this little thing of investigating your father’s bank account, and it must be faster, earlier, and more accurate than Andrew. You are a wise woman, and you can’t think of this, but you didn’t ask me for help, but found him, which proves that in your heart, I am a man you can’t trust, and he is a man that you trust.” Cheney said, looking at me with a serious face, and continued talking. “I ask you if it weren’t for revenge for your father, who would you marry Andrew and me?”
“This is not a question of reason.”
“Then you can answer rationally.” He raised his eyebrows.
“There is no comparison between you and Andrew.”
He narrowed his eyes. “You mean I can’t compare with him?”
“That’s not what I meant. In my eyes, although you are equally successful, you are people from two worlds. I think the only thing you have in common is that I have no love for Andrew, and I have no love for you either. Therefore, your question itself is not valid. If you have to answer, then I will definitely say that I will not choose either.”
After I said those words, I found that his face was a little dark again. I don’t know which sentence provoked him again, so I changed the subject and said, “Since you know my purpose, why don’t you expose me?”
He said coldly, “I’m still waiting for you to confess to me. Why do you want to expose yourself? I really want to ask you, where is the most basic trust between husband and wife?”
Trust between husband and wife? I looked at him. I think I need to remind Cheney that this marriage is a play? Is he a little too involved? Forget it, don’t talk nonsense, otherwise, he will be angry again.
“I do doubt you,” I said honestly. “I married you to investigate the truth of my father’s death. I doubted you. How can I tell you the truth and ask you to help me? If this matter really concerns you, then I am not caught in a jar by you?”
I thought about it and continued, “Now I still don’t trust you completely, but for some reason, my feelings tell me that my father’s affairs should have nothing to do with you.”
“Of course, it doesn’t matter. If this matter really has something to do with me, will I let the people in the bank release you and let you investigate the old accounts in the past at will?”
That’s why. No wonder when I went to the bank to investigate, it was so smooth. Before that, I was secretly pleased. Fortunately, I married Cheney. Mrs. Fischer’s name worked so well, but it turned out that he helped me secretly…
“Thank you,” I looked at him seriously. “I doubt you, but I can’t help it, because in the construction of the Cross River Bridge, besides the Brennan group, the Fischer group participated in it, and in the process, the Fischer group had too many rights than the Brennan group.”
He said solemnly, “This matter has nothing to do with me, but I am not sure whether the Fischer group can get away with it. As you know, I seldom care about strong roads.”
I nodded and smiled at him. “As long as it’s not you.”
“Do you really believe me?”
“A little bit,” I nodded firmly, “because you saved me.”
“That’s all? If I hadn’t saved you, you wouldn’t have believed me?”
I shrugged. “Although you are cold-blooded, ruthless, overbearing, and paranoid in the mouth of the world, in my eyes, you are not like this, you are a good person.”
He raised his eyebrows. “Goodman? I’m not a good man, but I feel at ease with you.”
I looked at him and nodded.
He opens his mouth. “If you want to investigate anything in the future, just look for me, not Andrew, understand?”
I coughed and clenched my fist to block the corners of my mouth.
He stared at me. “What were you laughing at?”
“I’m laughing at you. Why do you have to hold on to Andrew? He’s not my person?” My eyes turned. “By the way, I really want to ask you for help now.”
“Go ahead.”
“I want to see the Fischer group, the Cross River Bridge, which was sealed six years ago.”
“What’s so hard about it? I’ll ask Milo to send it back to you.”
“It’s best not to disturb Baron and their people. It’s in their interest. I think it’s better not to disturb the snake.” I said.
He gave me a white look and said, “Don’t worry, I am not a fool.”
