Chapter 30

I stopped and looked up at the night sky. “I hope it’s true. It’s better to be liked than hated.”

He looked sideways at me without making a sound.

I looked at him and said, “The love of grandparents is really enviable. Most men are arrogant at home and become easy going when they go out, but grandpa seems to be on the contrary. He knows how to let grandma be lenient.”

“Yes, in this life, Grandpa only tolerated Grandma. If anyone provokes Grandma, Grandpa will not recognize the six relatives. We all know that Grandma is Grandpa’s weakness.”

I nodded, “That’s why I said, I envy my grandpa and grandma’s love.”

He smiled and put his hand on my shoulder again. “The men in the Fischer family all love their wives very much, so you can try to please me. Maybe in the future, you will take the road of grandma.”

I scoffed.

He poked me in the forehead. “What are you laughing at?”

I held back my smile. “I know I won’t.”

Emerging from Cheney’s arms, I walked on.

“How do you know it without trying?”

“You don’t have to try to know.”

Back at the Jade Court, I was about to take a shower when my cell phone rang. I was surprised to see that it was Quincy. Why would Quincy call me? I thought about it and picked up my phone. “Hello, Mr. Quincy.”
“I heard that you picked on Luke at the construction site today?”

Maybe Quincy is helping Luke to avenge. I thought for a moment and said, “Mr. Quincy, what did he say? I just asked him to discuss what happened to the site when I was gone. Is it my fault? Who told you about this, Luke? He is still not a man.”

“He’s not a man. He’s a villain,” Quincy said in a dignified tone. “Krista, listen to my advice, you must keep your distance from such people, and you must remember it.”

I wonder, doesn’t Quincy hate me very much? Why should he remind me?

“Why do you say that?”

“You just have to remember that a person like Luke can do everything in a place where you can’t see it. Remember, don’t provoke him again, rather offend a gentleman than a villain, do you hear me?”

This… Dad said it on his deathbed. I held the hand of my mobile phone and tightened it. “Mr. Quincy”

What else do I want to ask? On the other end of the phone, there has been a busy signal.

After I changed my clothes, Cheney looked back at me and said, “Why is Quincy picking on you?”

I recovered, looked at him, and shook my head. “It’s nothing. He just suspected that I had caused trouble at the construction site and said a word to me.”

“Quincy, if you are injured, take good care of your body and mind your own business.” He mumbled in the air.
I smiled. “It’s strange, Quincy told me about Luke. I’m not angry at him. I’m angry when Luke contradicts me.”

“Because Luke is from the Brennan group.” He pointed in the direction of the bathroom. “Take a shower and get ready to sleep.”

As I walked to the bathroom, I said, “No, Mr. Quincy is also a job-hopper from the Brennan group. My hostility to Luke has nothing to do with the Brennan group, just because Luke is too small.”

Why did Quincy remind me of this in particular?

In the afternoon, Cheney came to pick me up in person, saying that he wanted me to accompany him to meet a friend.

The driver sent them to an upscale restaurant. Under the guidance of the waiter, we entered a private room.

As soon as I entered, a woman dressed in a white suit and looking very capable stood up. She glanced at me and then smiled. “Senior, here she comes.”

Cheney raised his eyebrows. “Do you still need me to introduce you?”

“No, I have seen her on the news many times before.”

I have a strong feeling that the way this woman looks at me is not friendly.

I looked at Cheney. “This lady has seen me on the news before, but I have never heard of her. I still need you to introduce her to me.”

The woman came up to me and held out her hand to me. “Hello, Miss Krista, I’m Gia, Cheney’s secretary and junior. Nice to meet you. I have been dealing with things in overseas markets before and have never had the opportunity to meet each other.”

I shook hands with her. “Hello, nice to meet you.”

Cheney sat down and said, “Everybody sit down.”

I sat directly beside him. Gia goes back to where she was. The waiter poured wine for the three of us.

Cheney said, “Where is Milo? Why hasn’t he arrived yet? Doesn’t he know that I hate waiting for people?”

“Milo won’t come. I told him not to be a third wheel.” Gia smiled. “I thought it was just you and me. The two of us for dinner today. Sorry, I made my own decision.”

I think this seems to be aimed at me.

“Don’t make your own decisions next time.”

“I see, Miss Krista. I don’t know what you like to eat. But because I know what my senior wants, I already ordered. Now I’ll add a few more dishes for you.”

I looked at her and smiled. She was showing off. Does she know Cheney?

“It doesn’t matter, I have the same taste as my husband, so I don’t need to order any more. We can share, so you don’t need to add more. I don’t like waste. However, I admire you. Secretaries seem to be more careful. I think Milo has a comprehensive understanding of my husband.”

“Ok, then I won’t add more, and I need to talk about it later.” Gia put down the menu and looked at Cheney. “Senior, let me report my work in Poland before the food comes up.”

Cheney waved his hand. “Take a break, don’t talk about work. Report back to me tomorrow morning.” Then he looked at me and said, “If you want something to drink, order it yourself.”
I turned to the waiter and said, “Give me a glass of corn juice.”

“Ok, please wait a moment.” The waiter replied.

Feeling Gia’s stares, I met her eyes, nodded, and smiled at her.

She also sipped her drink and said. “Does Miss Krista drink?”

“I don’t like this thing very much.”

“It is usually because people who have suffered losses in wine that they hate wine. It seems that Miss Krista also has a story. I am very curious.”

Cheney said calmly, “You are too curious.”

“Aren’t I not allowed to talk about work? Since you don’t want me to talk about work, I just talk casually, otherwise, it will be boring.”

I shrugged. “I just said I didn’t like wine, but I didn’t say I hated it. If Miss Gia had to listen to a short story about wine, it wouldn’t be without it.”
