Chapter 24

Cheney’s POV
In the morning, after the meeting, Milo followed me into the office.

After sitting down, I asked Milo, “Have you made a clear investigation into yesterday’s accident?”

“Sir Cheney, this incident should really have nothing to do with Mr. Rashad. Although it happened suddenly at that time, many people say that after Mr. Quincy and your wife had an accident, Mr. Rashad rushed up to help take your wife away from the construction site.”

I look a little cold. “Did he carry her?”

Milo said nervously, “According to the investigation, yes.”

After throwing Milo out, I sat alone in the office, and the more I thought about it, the stuffier I became. I picked up my cell phone and called Krista.

Krista answered quickly. “Hey, Cheney.”

“How did Rashad get you to the hospital yesterday?”

“He drove.”

“What I asked was, how did he get you away from the scene of the accident.”

Krista swallowed. “He carried me.”

“Why didn’t I hear it from you yesterday?”

“I didn’t say it because I was afraid you would be angry.”

Hearing this, I was even angrier. “Knowing that I will be angry, you still let him carry you out?”

“I asked him to let me down, but you know Rashad’s personality. He has not listened to what I say.”

After I hung up the phone I dialed the inside line, “Milo, send me the financial statements misstated by Rashad the last time I asked you to press down.”

Soon, Milo came in and sent the report.

I opened it, looked at it, and then my eyes turned cold. I closed the report and handed it back to Milo. “Send it to the board of directors and let them handle it according to the company’s regulations. In the future, I don’t want to hear anything about Rashad’s appearance at the Dragon Bridge construction site.”

“Yes, I’ll deal with it now.”

Milo went out, I sneered. Last time, Rashad embezzled millions of company accounts in pursuit of a model. I didn’t bother to argue with Rashad at that time, so I cut him some slack. Now it seems that the mistake he made at that time is just right to punish his present mistake.

I’d like to see how arrogant this smelly boy can be.

Krista’s POV
At noon, Cheney came back to the hospital to have dinner with me. I was a little upset, thinking that he would find fault with Rashad again.

As a result, he seemed to be all right and never mentioned it again. If he doesn’t mention it, I won’t be stupid enough to take the initiative to find something for myself.

After dinner, he looked at me with a serious face. “I remind you for the last time, stay away from Rashad. Don’t think that he is close to you because he likes you.”

I frowned. “I never thought he had a good impression on me, because all I saw in his eyes was hostility towards me.”

He raised his eyebrows. “You know, just rest. I’ll go to the company.”

After he left, I slept.

At about three o’clock, the aunt came and woke me up. “Madam, the president and the president’s wife of the Brennan group have come to visit you.”

When I heard the names of these two people, I resisted from the bottom of my heart. “You tell them that I want to rest.”

“I said it, but they have been waiting for you outside for more than half an hour. I saw that there seemed to be a reporter at the other end of the corridor, and I didn’t dare to delay, so I came to report to you.”

Journalist …

This Brent is going to use me for a show again.

After a moment’s silence, I replied, “Go and let them both in.”

“All right.”

Aunt went out to meet two people and invited them in.

Brent is holding a large bouquet of flowers while Mom is carrying a lunch box. When they came to my hospital bed, Brent said, “Krista, I heard that you were injured at the construction site. Your mother and I came to see you. How are you? Is the injury serious? Let your uncle have a look.”

My mother put down the lunch box. “I gave you some tonic soup, you child… I told you not to do this job, but you just didn’t listen. Do you know how worried I was when I heard that you were injured today?”

I looked at Aunt and said, “Auntie, please go to the door and have a look. Idle people are not allowed to approach the ward within five meters.”

After the two aunts went out, I said coldly to them, “No one here is watching, and reporters can’t get close, so you don’t have to make a show.”

Brent sighed. “Krista, uncle knows that you have prejudiced against uncle, but today you have to believe in me. Uncle came to see you and was really worried about you.”

“What is the reporter doing in the corridor?” Brent sank and looked at her mother.

My mother looked at me and said, “I asked the reporter to come. You have caused a lot of trouble to the Brennan family recently. As the daughter-in-law of the Brennan family, I always have to help deal with it.”

So… you just use your own daughter?

My heart was really cold. I looked at him and said, “Uncle Brent, I have something to talk to my mother alone. Can you go back first?”

He readily nodded, “OK, then you mother and daughter talk, and I will come back to see you.”

Cheney’s POV
After I was busy with the company, I drove to the hospital to see Krista.

As soon as I came upstairs, I saw that my aunts were at the door, and so I asked, “Is my wife still sleeping?”
“Master, the lady’s mother is here.”

What is Delia doing here?

I waved my hand to the two aunts. “You should go to work first.”

When the two aunts left, I came to the ward door and gently pushed the ward door to open a gap…

In the ward, Delia said dully, “Krista.”

Krista looked at her and said nothing.

“Krista, I beat you at the construction site that day. It was my fault. I was wrong. I didn’t mean it. Really, I was a little excited at the time. Can you tell Cheney that I have realized my mistake and tell him not to rob the Brennan family’s business because of this?”

What do you mean, “Krista frowns? What does this have to do with Cheney?”

“You don’t know? A few days ago, your uncle Brent managed to negotiate a business deal, only to be robbed by the Fischer group. Your uncle Brent doesn’t know so, he wants to ask Cheney what happened, but Cheney avoided it and only sent a secretary to tell him that it was to punish me for being ineffective. If you were a normal man, you would have picked on me for this. After all, it’s not a small business for the Brennan group. But your Uncle Brent didn’t say anything about me from beginning to end, making me feel really uncomfortable. ”

At the door, I leaned against the wall, thinking that Krista would be soft-hearted.

However, Krista refused, “So this is your purpose. Unfortunately, I can’t help you with your request.”

“Krista,” Delia frowned. “It’s not that you can’t help mom. You just don’t want to help mom, right?”

“If you have to understand it like this… so, be it.”

“You hate me so much? You want to get back at me so much?”

Krista was silent.

Delia snapped with anger in her eyes, “You child, when did you become so vicious?”

Hearing this, I instinctively pushed the door and went in. In this world, no mother would say that her child was vicious. A woman who talks like this is really vicious.

But at this moment, Krista answered her mother, “Yes, I am vicious.”

She looked at Delia with stubbornness and resentment in her eyes. “I really regret that I was vicious too late. If I had known that you would become what you are today, I should have opposed this marriage when you decided to marry Brent. When people in the Brennan family used me to earn word of mouth, did you stand up and punch them in the face? Did you give Zaniyah a good beating when she bullied me and beat me? When Brent first tried to invade me, did he tell the world about his misdeeds?”
Her words struck me. I froze.

It turned out that she was in bed, and the insurmountable psychological obstacle actually came from this.

No wonder she resisted the Brennan family so much and hated the Brennan family so much. Obviously, she suffered a lot of grievances, but the Brennan family gained fame and fortune, and even she suffered so much.

I can’t spare that hypocrite.

Standing at the door, I continued to watch.
